  1. Yeah, I've been switching back between the Michigan's and the BC/Maine game too. The other game I get is Notre Dame/Bowling Green, but last I checked, ND was blowing them out. Love weekends during college hockey season!

I get Charter Main Street too, but during the SCSU and Mankato series, it was a black screen with just sound. Pissed me off. Wouldn't think that any blackouts or anything would affect Bemidji.

  2. I've got two TVs side by side, watching Gophers/Sconnie and Mich./Mich St. while watching the Sioux online.

Flipping between those 2 since they started at dif times. :)

Had Vermont and UMASS online in another media player but the feed died.

  3. RMU beat Boston U despite managing a paltry 15 shots on goal compared to BU's 35. This is not one of BU's better teams and they currently reside at 6-10-3.

Notre Dame has been a collegiate patsy for years before last season's resurgence under Jeff Jackson. A good team, yes, but also an overwhelming favorite over the Spartans last year in the regionals. They're not a top-notch program just yet.

Merrimack followed up their sweep of Maine by losing twice to UMass Lowell. You mentioned that they defeated Boston, but I see an 0-2-1 record against BC this year and an 0-1 mark against BU. Besides, when was Merrimack last relevant in Hockey East, let alone the NCAA tournament?

BSU has beaten UMD 5 of the last 6. Lots of other teams can make that claim lately too.

Huntsville took Notre Dame to double OT.

Air Force took Minnesota down to the wire.

Minnesota State swept the Zach Parise-led Sioux a few years ago too.

Mercyhurts almost beat Michigan at Yost.

We could go on all day if you would like, but I've forgotten what your point was.

You did forget as the ending there didn't really have much to do with it. I wasn't trying to make it a Team A beat Team B and Team B... kind of thing. I was listing some games off the top of my head with the point being that BSU isn't in a great conference, but it's not garabage either. BSU is competitive vs the "big boys" now and I think they would surprise some people if they entered the WCHA.

  4. i think he may be a player that the sioux are waiting to see how he develops over the next year. maybe nelson as well from roseau

anyone have info on hebel from warroad and what type of player he is? thanks

and im sure there are many more out there they are looking at every week

Here's what I wrote about him earlier in the thread from when I watched him in mid-december.......

Brett Hebel was VERY impressive. He is a puck hound that is constantly around the net. He doesn't shy away from contact and he isn't afraid to shoot. He had 2g, 1a and it honestly should have been a lot more. It was the 2nd game in a row with Bemidji's goalie having 35+ stops. Hebel is an exciting player and you'd never know he was a sophmore. He played in all situations and they basically use 2 lines so he sees a lot of ice time. In a 3 minute span in the 2nd, he scored a PP G, hit the post and was robbed on a breakaway. If someone told me that he was the senior on his way to SCSU, I wouldn't have thought twice.

Going to watch Roseau on Friday. I'll report back on how Nelson and Landman look. I'm also going to beg Ness to re-open his recruiting and admit that I have a mancrush on him. :D;)

  5. So, after typing all that, what does BSU actually add to the WCHA other than a team that COULD be competitive on any given night (which the WCHA already has 10 of)?

They COULD win every night now. Watch what happens if they get into the WCHA and can offer that experience to recruits. They'll do much better than the perrenial basements dwellers that the WCHA has now. A few years down the road, I could see BSU hosting a first rd playoff series.

  6. I'll agree with you on that point, AZSIOUX. If the potential of winning an NCAA championship is the ONLY criteria by which teams should be competing in college hockey, let's just whittle things down to 10 teams and dismantle all other programs. Maybe they could do the same thing in basketball, too. After all, we already known Kentucky, UConn, and UCLA would destroy George Mason, right? :D

I'm not against Bemidji State being a D-1 hockey program. I'm against them joining the WCHA because it continues the trend of making the WCHA a small-town conference.

Why is it that everything you post seems to be against BSU and the CHA?

No, BSU's OT game vs Denver doesn't make them a good team, but it helps. They can't be judged solely on that game, just as you pointing out a sweep of RMU by Wis doesn't mean RMU isn't a pretty good team.

If you recall, Robert Morris beat Notre Dame last year and have beaten Boston this year along with going 1-0-1 vs Ohio St(who beat #1 Michigan).

Niagara does in fact have a win over "powerhouse" Merrimack as you sarcastically stated. Merrimack has also beat Boston and swept Maine this year.

BSU has beaten UMD 5 of the last 6(can UND say that?) and always seems to play UND tough for the most part. I think that they tied UND the year that they took DU into tourney OT.

Hunstville also made the tourney last year and took Notre Dame to double OT.

As it sits, BSU, RMU and Niagara are all receiving votes in the poll this week and BSU would be tied for 22nd if the poll went that far.

The CHA as a whole has lost a lot of talent from last year and unlike UND and MN, there aren't always studs waiting to fill those players shoes.

The CHA certainly isn't on par with the WCHA but that doesn't mean the teams can't be good.

BSU would do just fine in the WCHA.

Like an earlier post said.....think back a little bit. The Sioux weren't always playing in an 11,000 seat palace. The team wouldn't be where it is today if they didn't get help.

  7. I don't see how BSU would bring down the quality of the WCHA when they are better than teams like Mankato and UAA without getting nearly the players through recruiting.(Dalton not included).

Saying they can't win the conference isn't valid as they've made the NCAA tourney a couple times recently and they currently lead the league at 8-2-2. Robert Morris and Niagra are actually pretty good teams too.

People outside of diehard fans do know BSU hockey. I ordered my new Dell a few months ago and when I started to spell out Bemidji for the guy, he stopped me and said "Oh, I know how to spell it. I've seen the Beavers hockey team play Denver in the tourney." The guy was from Texas.

A new arena is a must, but I do think the fan support would pick up a lot if it goes through. I like the Glas but it's crappy to most people and they can't drink there. Not many people wanna see Wayne St and Army either. It's a whole different crowed when UMD or UND are here.

  8. Agreed regarding the talent of Ness, but I'm not sure that the Sioux "missed" on him. They recruited him hard, he just chose Minnesota. Whether that is based upon the larger ice sheet and style of play, his father steering him toward Minnesota, or some other reason is unknown.

Like the fact that his girlfriend is the extremely talented and committed Gopher, Sarah Erickson

  9. I just wanted to say that I hate Aaron Ness.

He was going to replace Oshie as my favorite Sioux, but had to go and f*** that up.

On a side note, Trupp is looking to be the front runner for the position when it opens.

  10. rumor is budish is leaning towards umtc, i figured this with his famly ties to minny. if so good pick for them when he announces for sure.

any info on schmidt out there?

any northern minny kids standing out right away this season in highschool or any to keep a eye on?

I don't like your rumors.

    :glare:

  11. Anyone who doesn't think that Parise and Toews are the real deal NHL style is a moron. Typical Gopher arrogance. The three highest scoring former WCHA players in the show right now: Heatley, Stastny and Parise.

How on earth can anyone believe that we can't recruit. It must be tongue in cheek. I believe there was a thread that noted that without pro losses, we would've fielded a team in 2005 that would've had Parise, Toews, Zajac, Stafford, Murray, Oshie, Duncan, Greene, Smaby, Chorney

I'm hoping, but he hasn't said so when I questioned it.

  12. Here is another funny reply from the convo on another board............

to bad nd cant recruit good enough players. they cant leave for the nhl cause there not good enough. if gophers didnt have players leaving for the nhl nd would be licking there jock straps.

    :D

  13. I thought you guys might enjoy this post on the topic on another board.........

What a ****ing chump. Him and Kessel can blow each other.

Why can't we have a team like the "Sue" that has seniors on it. We need to get mediocre players that will stay 4 years. ND has a bunch of 22yo playing 18yo. By the time the end of the year comes around that makes a difference.

  14. We'll take him!!

He probably thinks the Sioux are watching him because I went to the game by myself and didn't realize until I got there and got a few looks that I had on a Sioux hoodie with a Sioux hat and a Sioux coat with my Sioux lanyard hanging out of my pocket.

I should have brought a clipboard.

  15. Judging by his jersey pop Tuesday I'd say he's more a UMTC recruit.

Tuesday as in a day ago?

Cuz he did it vs Bemidji too. Goal from the point and skated backwards and tugged on it as his teammates headed towards him.

  16. Does this K-Dawg sit behind the Sioux bench and possibly wear an Oshie jersey? This guy I see sitting there seems to really love the Sioux and seems to fit the bill.

Also, count me in the minority.....I thought Lee did ok. I think most UND fans are used to the Commodores amd Greens and Lee was never that big physical guy.

  17. Warroad is in town tomorrow night.

Anyone know if the Sioux are looking at anyone? Maybe Hebel?

I think Ravndalen is headed to SCSU?

Well, it was tough to concentrate on the game having to look at Warroad's offensive mascot  , but here's my take.

Jeremy Hahn looked good briefly before appearing to get injured early in the 2nd and then only playing a shift or 2 at the point on the PP.

Ravndalen looked very good with 1g, 2a.

Hebel is just an exciting player and you'd never now he was a sophmore. He played in all situations and they basically use 2 lines so he sees a lot of ice time. In a 3 minute span in the 2nd, he scored a PP G, hit the post and was robbed on a breakaway. If someone told me that he was the senior on his way to SCSU, I wouldn't have thought twice.

  18. I haven't been informed on anyone. I would say if we are it would be Hebel, especially since he is a 2010 and I think that is the top scouting class right now for us. He may be a wait and see type player.

    Thanks for the info.
