  1. 800 people? try 1,700 plus in the town and then you have the surrounding cabins that are on the lakes!

Ok, so 1700. Edina is over 47,000. Who is pack the excel with fans?

    Bigger school = Better attendance

  2. Hi is just me or was this one of the most boring tournamnets in a while. The only really good game was the edina-BSM game and it pakced in a record attendance fo the xcel which eat las years final five. Also, the tv coverage was the most horrid i thought.

I thought the same thing. In years past, I was glued to the TV and did everything around the game times. This year, I found myself catching up on work and doing things around the house with the games in the background.

The games just weren't exciting. Most didn't even stay close. I would have rather watched Mankato West and Little Falls.

The announcers couldn't decide if it was Willie Paul or Paul Willie and if he played for Duluth Marshall or The Marshall School of Duluth. Jeremy Hahn was Jared Hahn and the list goes on.

    I'm definately sick of hearing.....

You can't score unless you shoot.

Goal scorers know how to score goals.

You can't score without your stick on the ice.

That would have went in if he didn't stop it.

Probably the worst overall tourney that I can remember.

  3. I like your argument about the Friday and Saturday time slots, but I'm not sure about the small schools/small population argument. Small school basketball teams travel extraordinarily well for tournaments for the very reason that they are a small school and the whole town turns out. This isn't a phenomenon unique to BB either because we also see it when teams from section 7A and 8A in hockey travel the whole town. Maybe the smaller schools in the metro area just don't have the broader sense of community pride that comes with being a representative of a small town in outstate MN. I don't think there's just one answer to this question.

I agree that you do have towns like Warroad and Roseau that turn off the lights and follow the teams(although I was told the qtr final turnout for Warroad was awful), but you get my point.

If almost the entire town of Warroad goes, what's that 800 people?

STA seemed like they had about 1000 students.

  4. Regarding the attendance and how it should be one class........

Teams like Roseau are certainly not the norm and you can't expect the smaller schools to compete with the big schools. Hibbing knocked off the defending state champs and were leading Marshall late in the section final and let it slip away. If Hibbing played a AA team like Edina they would lose 10-0.

I think it's great that smaller schools jump up to take on better teams, but it's sad when top programs tear through Class A, such as of maybe STA. This is a year that the AA champ isn't exactly the best team in the state. STA gave up the tying goal to Hill Murray with like 8 seconds left and lost in OT.

The Cadets are stacked and that's without Anders Lee and Jordan Schroeder on the team. It's almost pathetic what they did in the tourney.

To answer the question asked earlier, Lee is uncommitted and may go the football route. He's a top QB also.

But back to the attendance, the answer is 2 reasons.

Class A school are smaller, thus having less students and less people from the town to attend the games. Secondly, the AA games get the better time slot on Friday and Saturday and make it a little easier for people to attend.

  5. yeah or nay

USA's best hockey talent comes from Minnesota?

British Columbia, or maybe Ontario. Manitoba is good too. Minnesota, Michigan and Massachusetts probably round out the top 5-6 in that order.

I don't think BC, Ont and Man. apply. :D

  6. Still waiting. I was really impressed with Landman. His interview after the game was funny too... He reminds me alot of Jason Blake (looks like him too). This is the first time that I have watched Roseau where he really looked like he could crack the Sioux lineup. Ness was the best player on the ice. No surprise there. Also, St. Cloud took a big chance on Oliver and, well, oops...

Walters has looked very good, Birkholz looked mediocre at best. Our guy Gleason was a stud. Budish was solid, and Anders Lee is absolutely built. A few good players to watch in the night cap. Keep an eye on Isaac Kohls and Monte French. They are a little small, but good players for 09-10.

Watch Dan Cecka, Tyler Zepeda and Hakan Yumasakler.

  7. I've always laughed at the "wait and see label". He got his 3rd, 53 seconds into the 2 period and has 3 goals and 3 assists on the Rams 6 goals.

    Ness has 2, Nelson 1.

Landman adds a shorty for his 4th.

  8. I know that Zach Lehrke has been brought up before, in regards to him wanting to go to UND. I talked to someone a friend in Park Rapids tonight and he said MN has contacted him. PR plays a horrid schedule so I don't know if any offer was made, but he's talked with them.

  9. i hope the sioux get him but hes regarded as a wait and see type player for now. ive always liked him watching him a few times.

  10. buddish, walters and ness are top recruits without a doubt. you win some and lose some as always. the sioux have gotten a few more cities kids latley not counting shattuck of course. the difference these days is kids arent born with a 1 track mindset anymore. those days have changed when you locked a kid into a school because they grew up in a certain area. i think a lot of it comes down to the style of play for you as a player to develop for the next level if you are a top notch recruit. bottom line is neither school has much to worry about when landing blue chippers but the lucia pet is realizing he better not continue doug woog style and go outside of minnesota to get top kids rather than settling for kids just because they are from minny.

and to gopher33, wheeler isnt a shtty player by any means. it wasnt his fault he was mis evaluated and drafter too high. cant blame the kid. the coyotes know they drafted him a way higher than they should have and hope in 2-3 years he can be in their lineup. i havent seen many fans say phx wont sign, the reality is he was a top 5 pick and heavy heavy pressure comes with that status to help a nhl team out 1 or 2 years after being drafted and thats why he gets critisized. oh well

back to topic - cant wait to see toews, cichy and gregoire in the green and white next season

My friend sat by a PHX scout at the MN vs WIS game and of course he was watching Wheeler and Turris. He said they would both go right to the big club next year.

If that happens or not, we'll see, but that's what he said.

  11. What I learned from UMD announcers: Game 2.

Ryan Kaip saw ice time, as did Brian Malone.

No reason it should have been called when VV was run thru the net because it didn't affect the play.

It's easy to confuse Finley and Oshie when one of them is battling for the puck.

Genoway lost his balance and that's why he went into the boards.

Thul gave McKnight a misconduct because he's trying to get in the spotlight and make the game about him, as he's done for the last 8 years. (This was repeated in different words right after the loss.)

When Oshie was hauled down late in the 3rd, he was acting.

Malone was put down for going to the net hard, but they said UMD go into JPL hard.

When VV didn't get the call when his stick was clearly held, "even as a UMD fan", he thought it should have been called.

  12. Here's what I learned by watching Charter Main Street and listening to the UMD announcers.

Lammy took a dive as Fulton didn't touch him.

There was no reason for UND to get a PP because a Bulldog threw extra swings. This one does turn around at the end with the kneeing as Kaip should have gotten extra for throwing a punch.

A cross check that gets called when it doesn't affect the play, should make you chuckle.

    JPL started his 56th straight.

We were enjoying an afternoon of high school hockey.

Chad Genoway plays for North Dakota.

They never said "Fighting Sioux". It was always, "Bulldogs vs North Dakota".

UND iced the puck on the PK.

  13. 1) Karl Goehring

    2) Lefty Curran

    3) Jean-Philippe Lamoureux

The reason I like JP so much is he's like the Brett Favre of college hockey goalies. He does awesome make all these flashy unbelievable goals, but then he does something SOOO dumb you're like, "Is this the same guy?" Being a huge Brett Favre fan, I LOVE watching guys like that, edge of your seat every play.

I knew there was a reason that I liked you. :D

  14. Anyone know if the Sioux are trying to get Justin Jokinen? He reminds me a lot of Oshie, the way that he fights thru 2 guys and always seems to be around the puck trying to make a play.

His co-captain D Dustin Brown had 4 goals including the game winner with 11 seconds left in a 6-5 win over Duluth East in the semi and has both goals so far tonight. He has turned down an offer from Mercyhurst and wants to play Jrs in hopes of getting an offer from a WCHA school. He has 30+ pts on the year.

UMD commit John O'Neill has the only goal for Anoka.
