  1. What the heck. I'll buy you a virtual beer right now.
  2. No allowance for you this week!
  3. UND names Cary Eades assistant men
  4. Jake and Jordan had no problem with the rotation. They were both willing to do what was best for the team, and that was playing the goalie who was playing best.
  5. Pat Sweeney reported on WDAZ this evening that the new assistant hockey coach would probably be announced tomorrow. He said that it's likey to be Eades.
  6. I've seen Ed as a liberal spokesperson on the Fox News noon show, Dayside. Ed clearly does not get it. The reason conservative talk radio is successful and Fox News is successful is because people are tired of the liberal viewpoint the permeates the national media. The conservative media represents diversity. He represents the status quo.
  7. The closing date on the ad posted on UND's Web site is July 28.
  8. I talked to Johnson on Friday before the news release was posted on the Lincoln Stars Web site. He told me that he didn't get the job because it had been offered to someone else. However, that might have been an assumption on his part. The position requires a bachelor's degree and I've been told that Johnson doesn't have one. He may have been rejected because he doesn't meet the minimum requirements. Wednesday was that last day to submit application for the job, not Thursday, as stated in the Herald article. That's why WDAZ was able to list the applicants on Thursday. Johnson was on the list. He never told me that he hadn't applied.
  9. Jordan came to UND because Zach told him that he had a good chance of making the team, which proved correct.
  10. No comment.
  11. I just learned that the Lincoln Stars news release was premature. Bochenski has not made a decision yet about signing with the Senators.
  12. There's nothing about Bochenski being signed on NHL.com, either. However, if I remember correctly, it took a day or two for the Devils to issue word officially that they'd signed Parise.
  13. While searching the Net for news of Bochenski, I ran across this gem posted on the Ottawa Senators newsgroup. ------------------------------- Help support an NHL player in his time of need Since September 11, 2001, Americans and Canadians have come together as never before in our generation. We have banded together to overcome tremendous adversity. We have weathered direct attacks on our own soil, wars overseas, corporate/government scandal, layoffs, unemployment, stock price plunges, droughts, fires, mad cow disease, SARS, Avian flu, high gasoline prices, and a myriad of economic and physical disasters both great and small. But now, we must come together once again to overcome our greatest challenge yet. Hundreds of Professional Hockey players in our very own nation are going to be locked out, living at well below the seven-figure salary level. And as if that weren't bad enough they could be deprived of their life giving pay for several months, possibly longer, as a result of the upcoming lockout situation. But you can help! For only $20,835 a month, about $694.50 a day (that's less than the cost of a large screen projection TV) you can help an NHL player remain economically viable during his time of need. This contribution by no means solves the problem as it barely covers the annual minimum salary, but it's a start, and every little bit will help! Although $700 may not seem like a lot of money to you, to a hockey player it could mean the difference between spending the lockout golfing in Florida or on a Mediterranean cruise. For you, seven hundred dollars is nothing more than a month's rent, half a mortgage payment, or a month of medical insurance, but to a hockey player, $700 will partially replace his daily salary. Your commitment of less than $700 a day will enable a player to buy that home entertainment center, trade in the year-old Lexus for a new Ferrari, or enjoy a weekend in Rio. HOW WILL I KNOW I'M HELPING? Each month, you will receive a complete financial report on the player you sponsor. Detailed information about his stocks, bonds, 401(k), real estate, and other investment holdings will be mailed to your home. Plus, upon signing up for this program, you will receive an unsigned photo of the player lounging during the lockout on a beach somewhere in the Caribbean (for a signed photo, please include an additional $150). Put the photo on your refrigerator to remind you of other peoples' suffering. HOW WILL HE KNOW I'M HELPING? Your NHL player will be told that he has a SPECIAL FRIEND who just wants to help in a time of need. Although the player won't know your name, he will be able to make collect calls to your home via a special operator in case additional funds are needed for unforeseen expenses. YES, I WANT TO HELP! I would like to sponsor a locked out NHL player. My preference is (check below): [ ] Forward [ ] Defenseman [ ] Goaltender [ ] Entire team (Please call our 900 number to ask for the cost of a specific team - $10 per minute) [ ] Jaromir Jagr (Higher cost: $32,000 per day) Please charge the account listed below $694.50 per day for the duration of the lockout. Please send me a picture of the player I have sponsored, along with an Jaromir Jagr 2001 Income Statement and my very own Bob Goodenow (Executive Director of the NHLPA player's Union) pin to wear proudly on my hat (include $80 for hat). Your Name: ___________ Telephone Number: ___________ Account Number: _______ Expiry Date:_______ [ ] MasterCard [ ] Visa [ ] American Express [ ] Other Signature: _______________________ Alternate card (when the primary card exceeds its credit limit): Account Number: _______ Expiry Date:_______ [ ] MasterCard [ ] Visa [ ] American Express [ ] Other Signature: _______________________
  14. According to this news release on the Lincoln Stars Web site, Bochenski has signed with Ottawa. Thanks for the heads-up, U2bad1. Edit: Dang! Late again!
  15. Not to be a smart a$$ about it, but Blais said what my story says he said. I asked him if the rumors were true about Bocheski signing a deal with the Senators. He said they were and that it would likely happen this week. We didn't discuss the why or how of the situation.
  16. If you want the top players in college hockey on your team, then you must also understand that there's always a possibility that they'll leave early to turn pro. Would you rather have a team filled with players that the NHL doesn't want?
  17. It's not about me being right or wrong. I simply quoted what Blais told me. That being said, I think your Bo-less lines are pretty good. I'm hoping that Massen will return to form for his senior season and move up to the second line, enabling the Prpich-McMahon-Fylling line to stay together. Over the weekend, I got my Sioux hockey fix by watching a tape of the 2003 game of UND at Minnesota. The Sioux won 4-2. Massen was on the first power play and on the second line with Lundbohm and Spiewak. Massen had an assist on a power play and played well throughout the game. And this was against a team that went on to win the national championship. I'd forgotten how good James could be when he plays well. Without Bochenski, the Sioux will need him to step up next season.
  18. Stafford is a right wing. Your second line has two right wings and your third line has two left wings. That's not to say that your line prediction might not be accurate. However, Blais usually tried to avoid playing righthanders on the left and lefthanders on the right. Whether Hakstol is the same way remains to be seen.
  19. As the chart below shows, the one-two punch of Kollar and Goehring was at its best during the 1999-2000 season. Compare that season to the one-two punch of Jordan Parise and Jake Brandt in 2003-2004.
  20. There's an article in Sunday's Grand Forks Herald about The Betty.
  21. Virg Foss has an article in today's Herald about Zach Jones, the young brother of Matt Jones, making a verbal commitment to UND.
