  1. Here's a recent article about Prpich signing with the Cardiff Devils in Wales. I wonder if Sioux-cia's passport is up to date?
  2. Yes. Almost five years ago.
  3. From the Green Mill, it's the Fighting Sioux Coaches' Show with UND hockey coach Dave Hakstol and hosts Tim Hennessy and Scott Swygman. TH: The Sioux had Michigan State last sat night and this weekend, they have Boston College on Friday and Northeastern on Saturday. On paper, MSU is very good hockey team. I thought UND

  5. Brad Schlossman's blog has info on how Oshie lost his "A."
  6. You sit out a game for a game disqualification penalty. Oshie got a game misconduct.

    Barnaby Buning?
  8. Mr. Duncan makes me proud.
  9. As a former incredibly average athlete, I appreciate the sentiment.

I'm not saying that it is. What you say makes a lot of sense and I don't disagree with any of it. However, I don't know what Buning knows or who he's taking to. So what might seem unreasonable or unrealistic to us could be completely different from his perspective.

I don't know enough to determine whether it was a great idea. All I can do is assume that somebody with expertise in these matters believes that there's some advantage to going this route.

You might think that Buning exploring his legal options is "futile and misguided." I could see an attorney thinking otherwise.

If you couldn't tell, maybe you should read this.
  15. That answers my question. Thanks.
  16. When I read this, I have to ask, Dave: Do you understand the words coming out of your computer? Because how you described the incident then and how you describe it now seem worlds apart.
  17. Zero. It's a non-conference game.
  18. I don't think IIHF rules apply to the NCAA. As far as I can tell, the NCAA rules have no limitation on how many players can wear an "A" on one team. All they say is that one player has to be designated a captain for the purpose of discussions with officials on the ice. If that player isn't available, another player can be designated in his place. But the rules don't say anything about whether the designated player needs to be wearing an "A" or assistant captains having any official role.
  19. Well, somebody had to be. I was just pointing out that MSU didn't have a captain listed on its line chart.
  20. I thought that perhaps there was a rule limiting a team to one captain and two assistants, but I can't find anything like that in the NCAA rule book. All it says is that each team must have one captain designated by a "C" on his jersey. Michigan State's line chart shows no fewer than six assistant captains and doesn't say which player was the captain for Saturday's game.

I believe that falls under the category of letting people do their jobs. Clearly, some couldn't wait to see Buning out as soon as possible. That's one reason this turned into train wreck when it didn't have to be.
  22. Hiring the best person for any job at the university should be the objective. If the best person is a UND alumnus, then that's wonderful.
  23. I think three would be perfect: Hear no, see no and speak no.

    UND/UNO

I have to agree with you there. It was as if because they called a bad penalty on UND, they had to make up for it by calling a bad one on UNO. What bugs me is that it seems every time we've played UNO the past several years, they get a call in their favor at a critical time in the game. That being said, we beat ourselves in this game. The officiating didn't.

I don't think that was Sicatoka's point. Harmeson, was not only the FAR, he's was also the interim AD and has been UND's WCHA representative for many years. In other words, he knows a great deal more about athletics and the athletic department than probably any other UND VP. Once again, what happened is being misrepresented. Buning served for two years directly reporting to the president. Only after requests came from within the department for the administration to take a more hands-on approach was Harmeson put in charge of Buning. It was a change made to deal with the special circumstances of the situation. It wasn't standard operating procedure at UND. I don't disagree with that. But there's a whole lot of blame that could be spread around for why it turned into the mess is became. And it's not all inside the walls of Twamley Hall.
