Another report from Tim Oshie:
-
Nobody wants to see your Chippendales Halloween costume.
-
I wonder if there are any casinos within 5 miles of a church, synagogue or mosque.

missK, you might want to reduce the size of those photos. They're huge.

WCCO TV has some online video and a story on the F3 tornado that his Warroad Saturday evening. The report on KVLY said the tornado was a quarter-mile wide. Tim Oshie said it passed within an eighth of a mile of the arena where he'd taken shelter with many other residents. Given the size and strength of the tornado, it's very fortunate that nobody was hurt.

Try this link to a story in the Chicago Tribune.

The Grand Forks Herald has some good coverage here about the tornado that hit Warroad on Saturday. The Online Extra features a slideshow of storm photos submitted by area residents.

From a Philadelphia Inquirer sports column by Don McKee: Just as William & Mary's record of graduating student athletes makes no difference to the NCAA, neither does UND's educational programs and services for American Indians.

Tonight, I received this e-mail and the photo below from Tim Oshie, father of UND hockey player T.J. Oshie:

The appeals process became a joke the moment the NCAA gave Florida State a pass. Trying to find a rationale in it is pointless because there isn't any. The NCAA simply does what it wants to do for whatever reason it chooses to concoct at the moment. Unfortunately, it will be up to the courts to determine whether the NCAA can ignore its own rules and break contracts with its members after taking their money or if it must adhere to some type of standard.
-
I think it's an "every school for itself" situation because each school has different strengths and weaknesses in its arguments. Ideally, it would be best if all the schools opposed to the NCAA would speak with one voice. As a practical matter, I don't see that happening. The NCAA has successfully used a divide and conquer strategy. Whether this was planned or it just worked out that way is anyone's guess. (I don't want to give Brand and Harrison too much credit.) By giving exemptions to a few schools, putting Bradley on probation and giving Illinois and William & Mary part of what they wanted while other schools completely caved in, the NCAA has made it very difficult for the few schools left in opposition to assume a united front. UND's case, unfortunately, will have to sink or swim on its own merits.

I shouldn't forget this one, which originated on SiouxSports.com and ended up on the Hot Talk blog: 1-17-2006 An open letter to NCAA president Myles Brand

Not to mention that this late at night, I had to drink a couple of cans of Ensure to keep my posting strength up.

From USA Today: NCAA denies William & Mary appeal in logo ruling "Hostile and offensive"? Where's that wording come from?
-
LetsGoSioux!, thanks for your kind words. I've only written one opinion piece for USCHO supporting the logo. I've written a number of USCHO news stories about the NCAA policy for USCHO and a some articles related to the nickname controversy. I've included the story about T.J. Oshie because it discusses his American Indian heritage. There are at least a couple news stories missing. Here are the links I can find: 10-18-02 A Sioux Perspective North Dakota Goalie Marc Ranfranz Offers Insight 8-22-05 Hey, Hey, NCAA, Censored Logo Leads The Way 9-28-05 Caught In The Controversy NCAA American Indian Mascot Policy Impacts Father And Son 9-28-05 Making All The Right Moves North Dakota's T.J. For the record, I'm not saying that anyone in this debate should be banned for tossing around various scenarios based on fantasy, reality, fact, fiction, wishful thinking, delusions of grandeur, LSD flashbacks, reading from tarot cards, tea leaves and animal entrails, psychic connections, assumptions, educated guesses, groundless claims, presumptions, valid hypotheses, common sense, Larry King streams of consciousness, misinformation, misconceptions, misperceptions or Kaptain Kangararoo reruns. I've long since ceased to care about any of it because nobody posting here has all the answers, can predict the future or know all the relevant information affecting UND's move to DI. So go ahead and speculate away. Just don't tell me that any of it has a thing to do with "the truth."

Did you miss this part that I wrote?

Close enough for me!

I guess this is as good a place as any to post this link: HIGHER EDUCATION: Chancellor to Chapman -- You tried to sabotage me NDSU president rejects charges in evaluation

I see it now. The San Diego Chargers and the Wicked Witch of the west are going to be POed!

That's probably true. You really don't hear much about the Wisconsin State Navy these days.

I'll defer to your expertise in that department.
