Do you think that the NCAA simply hands out medical redshirts to college hockey players who are diagnosed as jerks? It's fairly safe to assume that unless there were other factors besides a player simply being a difficult person to deal with, Hirsch never would have been granted an extra year of eligibility. I think Lucia did a very decent thing by giving Tyler a year to get the situation resolved and then taking him back. He must have had reason to believe that Hirsch had the problem under control. It's too bad it didn't work out because Tyler is a very talented player who could have been an asset to the Gophers. The fact that Hirsch, his family and the Minnesota coaching staff are saying so little about what happened convinces me that whatever the problem is, they either can't or don't want to discuss it publicly. That should tell you that there's more to the situation than meets the eye.

Fight after the Sunday night gopher/mavericks game
PCM replied to If only we had Belfour's topic in Men's Hockey
So Hakstol was supposed to demonstrate during a televised game and in front of all Sioux fans in attendance that he doesn't know the rules? I've never seen this happen during the course of a hockey game and I expect that I never will. The officials aren't there to debate the rules. -

I didn't say that I agreed with Shepherd's decison in that case. I have criticized WCHA officiating in general and Shepherd's calls in particular many times on this board. However, going after the officials during or after a game isn't the way to solve the problem. -

It wouldn't have done any good. Shepherd had already determined that no penalty shot would be awarded. No amount of histrionics by Hakstol would have changed that. -

Challenging the officials during the course of a game brings the risk of a penalty. Actually, I'm surprised that coaches and players get away with it as much as they do. Anyone remember Northeastern coach Greg Cronin's comments about WCHA officiating after the second game against UND at the Ralph last season? -
Congratulations to your Gators, Tommiejo. What a dominating, powerful performance by Florida. I'll wear that Gators cap you sent me a few years ago with pride.

When Kupchella invited the NCAA Executive Committee to visit UND for the purpose of seeing firsthand what goes on here, the NCAA didn't even bother to respond. Is that Brand's idea of working with the university?
-
UND isn't challenging the policy itself -- yet. Nor am I. I believe if putting this issue to a vote was the slam-dunk win that some believe it to be, the NCAA would have done it already. There has to be a reason that approach wasn't taken. That's just my hunch based on seven years of experience working the world of legislative politics. I believe you are correct. This is another legal battle to be fought if UND chooses to fight it.

That was quite disappointing, even by your standards. I guess you couldn't handle the pressure of a softball being lobbed over the plate.

I knew that Toews' F-bomb would drive you right over the edge. Please keep me in mind to provide sudo coverage of your sudo hockey program.

Why would he apply for a job that doesn't exist?

If only Diggler knew any of those words. I have it on good authority that he's as pure as the driven snow.

That's true. My check is in the mail.

He lost a bet? Great picture, by the way. Thanks for sharing. I look forward to redwing77's obligatory comments.

You never told me the drivers drink beer while they're racing. That's something I'd go watch.

Shame one you, dagies. You are not showing the proper amount of gratitude to Gopher fans who spend valuable time policing, re-educating and pointing out the hypocriscy of SiouxSports.com members.

You and me with our own radio show. That would be awesome, dude!

In respone to "Where's the dirversity?" I submitted the following tongue-in-cheek comment to the NCAA Double-A Zone blog here: If rule by executive fiat is a good solution for UND, I see no reason why it can't be applied to every social justice issue confronting college athletics.

What's so pathetic about the Gothmog's of the world is that they are quite happy to allow the NCAA to run roughshod over member schools they dislike, refusing to understand that the same flagrant abuse of power that hurt UND can just as easily be used against the schools they like.

What evidence is there to suggest that any of the Sioux tribes were offended?
-
Did Myles happen to mention the "F" that NCAA model institution Wisconsin received from the Black Coaches Association?
-
It answered a question nobody asked.

That's not the issue. Do you think UND selected the Fighting Sioux nickname for the purpose of mocking, disresprespecting or otherwise dishonoring the Sioux tribes? Yes or no?
