Not me. I'm going to be posting comments on Mike McFeely's blog all weekend long.

The "big deal" is reflected in what Bina is charged with. I wasn't addressing that. I was addressing the difference between how police in Grand Forks and police in Minneapolis treat people at the scene of the alleged crime. You might also consider the possibility that the police knew who Bina was and didn't see any need to throw him on the ground and cuff him, which is what you said would have happened in Minneapolis.

And yet there were people who posted on this board that T.J. needed a year in the USHL before coming to UND. I guess they were nobodys. He dropped because he had two serious injuries and nobody knew how well he'd recover.

Perhaps you need to consider that the population and crime rate in Minneapolis being what it is and the population and crime in Grand Forks being what it is, there might be a difference beween the way police in the two cities treat people. And, no, I'm not excusing Robbie's behavior.

You could ponder that question until the end of time and it wouldn't get you anywhere. Everyday (except in places like North Korea), various news organizations make decisions about what's news. Their decisions are often at odds with what individuals in other news organizations think is news. Trying to make sense of it is a waste of time because the media is consistently inconsistent. That's what Dave Hakstol and his players need to understand above all else. If they think that - even on the local level - the media is going to develop a standard for what gets in the news and what doesn't, they're not dealing with reality. In the field of media relations, I advise people that if they don't want something published or broadcast, then don't say it. By the same token, if you don't want to be the lead story for WDAZ, don't break the law and give the news director an excuse to make you the lead story. Pretty simple.

Nope. McFeely makes it clear that the only action which would have satisfied him were the suspensions of Bina, Oshie and Toews. While I'm sure it would have given Mike a warm fuzzy, it's a simplistic solution. I imagine it's possible that McFeely has a complete and total grasp of all relevant facts concerning the actions of the UND basketball and hockey players in question, but I doubt it.

Wrong again. You know better than that.

When the media screws up, we all criticize it with gusto. We don't sit around moralizing about whether we're living lives free of sin in comparison to editors, news directors and reporters. Their decisons are just as open to criticism as the decisions of coaches, players and others in the public eye.

It's a shame that McFeely falls back on his usual tactic of cheap-shotting (yes, he's even done it to NDSU) and proposing simplistic solutions to complex problems. If you can get past those parts of his column, he does actually have a valid point in comparing how UND basketball coach Brian Jones handled a disciplinary problem with his players and how Hakstol handled the problem with his players. I'm not saying that Hakstol should have done exactly what Jones did because I have no idea how the basketball players violated team policy. What does that mean? Does McFeely know? If so, he should tell his readers because that's the only way they can determine whether the two situations are analogous. Without knowing that key bit of information, it's impossible for us to judge whether Jones' approach was more correct than Hakstol's. Also, from my perspective, McFeely's complaint about how Hakstol handled the media is valid.

Actually, I don't see what that has to do with his column. Using your logic, a coach could never punish a player for doing something that the coach might have done when he was a player. If the players have no fear of being punished for violating team rules, then what's the point of having team rules?

Given the fact that this makes absolutely no sense because it would in no way satisfy the NCAA, I'd be inclined to pronounce it bovine scatology.

But prematurely throwing players under the bus is so much more fun!
