  1. not sioux related, but it's an off week  don't know if there are any leafs fans out there, but since they traded away 4 starting forwards to create a $20 million plus blueline and an expensive goalie duo, and the kessel contract (and burke is a genius i guess??)... they now have no money for any starting centers, a minor inconvenience i know :D and i know there will be offseason moves to accomidate this, but for the rest of this season, it looks like ex-collegians tyler bozak and christian hansen will get a chance to prove their medal with the big club. interesting to see how some guys finally get their opportunity, be interesting to see if either of them will make a case to stay there. don't suppose davidson will trade away four starting forwards before the deadline so porter will get a chance to shine

  2. Comparing the talent of these guys with what we have today is laughable. That being said there doesn't appear to be as many "blue chippers" in college hockey as there was just a few years ago. Now more than ever it comes down to recruiting good players and developing them into great players. Neither seems to be working out for the Sioux right now.

or just recruiting jon toews and letting him be him :D i agree that it seems the blue chip college talent peaked, not to say it couldn't again, but definately not the years of parise, osh, toews, zajac, stafford, vanek, kessel, ej, wheeler (as much as we hate the goofs, those guys were top end talent), stastny, vanriemsdyk, backes, etc. etc.

  3. Did your teacher just let you out of class after detention? You are imature and as an fyi...I have friends with kids on all 3 hs teams around here and Williston was an example. Now...go back and finish your homework. If I recall were you the one spewing after Grafton won state?

i am long past school and done for the day so sorry to dissappoint, but no homework to finish :D but about the response i expected based on your original post. i don't believe i have ever posted about grafton or anyone winning state for that matter, so i think you're barking up the wrong tree there. not sure i asked if you knew anyone who had kids on area teams, so not sure what the relevence is there?? does that mean you are an expert on all things high school hockey, thus validating your original post? if you didn't want someone responding to your post, you shouldn't have posted it. i was responding and setting some of your misinformation straight, sorry if that got your panites in a bunch, but i stick to my statement.

  4. I'm not sure where he'll fall into. His issue will be weight. He's lanky but needs to eat allot of meat then lift weight's to put that into muscle. I like the fact that a local boy is getting at least a look. I don't understand how the local GF (EGF) kids don't do much after hs? Maybe it's the games or playing against Williston and other non hockey teams. However, I've noticed that GF is now doing more MN tournaments. I hope SCSU or Mankota get him and he actually plays.

maybe you don't follow ndhs hockey, or maybe you have been instilled with the east side superiority to go along with your ignorance, or maybe you just spew what pops into that head of yours... reguardless, there are many falcities in your elequently stated post. first, as to the gf or other nd kids not doing anything after hs... have you been to a sioux game this season? arguably our best and most consistent player all season hails from grand forks, and robbie bina is now playing in a european pro league after a wonderful college career. i could go on, but wont, you have the internet, you could check on it if so inclined. north dakota hs hockey is not mn hs hockey, never has been and never will be, but don't bang on the entire league (other than gf of course) because your most formidable skill is posting incorrect statements on message boards. and a quick fyi... im not sure how many times any gf team has played williston (other than the state tourney) in the past decade, but its not many if any at all. oh, and williston is in first in the west, with the states leading scorer (and most likely the best player, and most likely to succeed at the college level), and 3 in the top 11... more than red river or central. also i believe williston has made state the past 5 years or so, so im sure you could have chosen a patsy from the east to rag on, or is that not kosher? so i anxiously await your well though out response to this :D if you are going to spit out idiotic statements, you should do some fact checking first. end rant.

  5. i'll always cheer the sioux... 40-0 or 0-40... im not going to drink the koolaide with ya mike, something about jim jones, late 70s doesnt sit well with me :D but ill stay positive and hope this team can exceed expectations. lets start with 4 points in st. cloud!!

  6. it wasn't goalie interference, i believe he called interference on knight against the du player who took a dive in front. horrible penalty call for sure, but automatic no goal, since we were the ones getting the penalty (deserved or not).

  7. im just surprised that they are cutting the third place game, strictly for monetary reasons. i realize that the final five has a nice ring to it, but noone can come up with a clever name for a six team tourney? wcha super six? there are endless possibilities if that is a sticking point. i realize the third place game has little meaning to those playing it, unless a win would help a bubble team get in and boost their pwr, but it is still a money maker for the wcha. i guess i don't get why they wouldn't have two games each day and try to increase the $$$$. also agree that moving the title game to sunday probably won't happen. either way, i won't miss the 3rd place game if they get rid of it, im just surpirsed their considering it.

  8. some schools have different policies reguarding this, but i think it should be only a home sweep or a salute for the seniors the last home game. i know theyve done it after game 3 of the first round wcha playoffs too.

  9. if the bthc happens, great, we can split up the leagues... except one big problem, only two wcha teams would be leaving, and i don't see any of the remaining ones joining the bthc. the ccha would actually set up nice losing three making it an 8 team conference, unless notre dame decides to join? which i don't see happening, but you never know. and what about uah? so if the bthc happens and dictates some rearrangement, we're left with a 10 team wcha minus two of the perrenial powerhouses, but still a viable league, and left in the best shape imho. the ccha is left with 8 losing 2 of its top schools and a bottom dweller, but still a viable league. and the almighty bthc has 4 powerhouse hockey programs and a cupcake to beat up on... have fun playing each other 6 or 8 times a season. now this isn't to say some big ten schools couldn't add programs, this has been discussed at length in another thread, and that isn't what is being discussed here. and my last comment was tounge in cheek, as i realize these schools would have not trouble filling a non conference schedule, but a bthc isn't the answer to spreading out the wealth here. it may or may not happen, until then we deal with a 12 team conference schedule.

  10. Look at Jordan Schroeder. He's flying on the ice (at least what I saw).

actually, i was just going to ask where schroeder is. he still has the wheels which he has shown a few times, but he is not the dominant player he was last year at the wjc. in fact, other than maybe tavares, he was probably the most dominant player last year. maybe there is something to garth snow's assertation about don lucia's development at the u? ;) didn't kessel pull a no show after dominating as a 17 or 18 yr old? for the sake of the us team... the schroeder line needs to show up sometime soon and show why blais put them as his first line. i think this us team has tons of speed and talent, stepan and kristo have been the most noticable forwards hands down. our d corp has been awesome. donovan has been especially good, but all of the dmen have been great. and i think campbell was more confident in net, although i think lee can be great too.

  11. I thought Team USA had a lot more passion. They needed to either make the team or establish credibility with USA coaches so it wasn't that surprising to me.

i agree that team usa had more to play for and more jump than us, plus they are a damn fast team, which is what the main difference in the game was... but on the flip side wasn't dissappointed in the sioux's effort.

  12. I get that, but they haven't spent EVERY day together since late Sept. :silly:

its also a bunch of first and second round draft picks... practicing together since sept doesn't give you oshie hand eye coordination. i think the crisp passing, tape to tape, is a direct result of skill level. i think it is one of the things that separates higher levels of hockey from others, that and speed. i wouldn't be too dissapointed with the sioux's showing on saturday, especially since we were pretty shorthanded with out genoway, zajac and kristo.

  13. anyone else a little surprised that moore was cut? i admit i don't know too much about these kids, especially the ones not in college hockey, but i was under the impression that moore was one of the better dmen on the team.

  14. Sorry for being lazy here folks and not going back through the thread.

    Two things.

    1. I sure hope Davidson plays. He deserves to and I assume that he will.

    2. Any of these US kids incoming Sioux recruits?

Thanks. I'll be in The House, and will be signing baseball cards between periods at a card table

    outside the building, Northwest entrance.

    1. I think with kristo, genoway and zajac all out, we will see everyone this saturday, possibly hill even dresses?

    2. As someone said before me, just kristo from the sioux, unless you count blais as an ex-sioux.

Should be an exciting game, a lot of talent on the ice tomorrow! Go sioux! And usa I guess, can't root against our country right?

  15. Not to be argumentive but I think Chay has a chance of playing at the next level. I could see someone coming a long and saying, Genoway you're now a forward.

i don't usually agree with big a hg's views on genoway, but i do here. i do not think he is an nhl forward, and i think his size may be his limiting factor on defense. he is an extremely talented hockey player, and maybe his skating and puck handling will be enough to overcome his size, and i hope he does as he is one of my favorite sioux, but you just don't see many nhl dmen his size.

  16. FWIW, I would have Cornell barely in the top-ten and UND between 10-15. That will, of course, change depending on how the Big Red fare against the big boys.

The polls may not mean much in the early months, but come NCAA tourney selection time, they could influence who gets at-large bids and who sits home.

no, its based on the pwr rankings, the polls dont influence any at large bids

  17. Why do Cornell fans get so worked up over polls?

because its the only chance they have to be atop the college hockey world  i think cornell is a solid team this year, i love the riley nash kid, great combo of skill and size, but if we're trying to compare teams, which is think is what we are doing here, und is a better team than cornell, even with the current rough patch. although i do agree that we shouldn't be ranked 5th or 6th, who cares, it's just the polls, it means nothing.

  18. I think the quarterfinals are on the 2nd and the finals are on the 5th, so he won't be here.

that's what i thought, looks like andrea and willy will be taking early exits like i usually do in these games  i don't think i have made it past the first weekend of a sioux survivor all year.
