  1. I did not pick the Bison to win this one. A good game with great effort from Brock Jensen. EWU really made some FCS noise by beating Oregon State as well. It is always fun to see the big programs fall.

That being said, any talk of moving to FBS is just nuts given the current structure of NCAA FB. It sure seems to me that both NDSU and UND are where they belong. And, I would much rather play for a national title that some obscure no-name bowl game.

  2. No question a win against SDSU would be a tremendous win for your program. A win would make the MT schools very nervous heading into the following 2 games. By the time the next 3 games are over, you will know exactly where the program stands. Your game against the Jacks will let us know how uptight to be about our game with them.

Thank God the season is here!

  3. Until we are Wyoming quality (and a have a big stadium) the MWC will only be a reality on a PS3 or Xbox. UND needs to build up its fan base before FBS can seriously be talked about. We are out of transition hell and have 1 year of playoff eligibility under our belts, we did see an attendance increase but nowhere near the 2001 level which IMO is where we need to be. We need an average of 10,000+ every game for starters, plus start winning big games, get a conference title, a playoff win, and eventually a national title. One step at a time.

While WYO has a nice stadium, the team is horrid. Basketball fell flat the end of the season also. As for NDSU or UND moving up, both would surely need bigger stadiums. 25,000-30,000. I don't see that happening anytime soon since both have indoor stadiums that are impossible to enlarge. I really think the stadium issue is a big one....without a FBS size stadium.....no one will get a conference invite.

  4. Right now there is no need for UND to go conference hunting...we have 11 teams, 12 with Idaho next year so our conference is pretty solid, while the Summit is in danger of losing Oakland and maybe Denver if they find another conference. Plus losing an autobid status, instead of making fun of the Big Fluffy as you call it you better hope your school gets the number for every conference there is before its too late. Oh don't forget SDSU too unless they get in without you.

Let me explain this to you since you have a certificate from Aakers Business College (and not a real college degree) and are not too bright.......take a look at the RPIs of either the Summit or Sky. I would suspect that most UND or NDSU BB fans are not content with either conference and would most certainly like to see the programs upgraded to the level of the MVC. The way for a program to get out of a low major BB conference is to build a team that is something a solid mid-major conference would want to add. Neither programs are close to that point yet.

  5. Is decent defined as a NCAA birth in multiple years? Because SDSU is atarting to leave the Bison in the dust with 2 straight while NDSU is on a 4 year drought. Saul is a good guy but NDSU doesn't have much to offer other conferences in way of tournament births and facilities. SDSU is starting to mount a good résumé.

For me, I am undecided on Saul. You are right, he is a good guy.....but I am not sure he can coach. What will really tell us a lot about Saul will be nest season as well as seeing how he reloads the year after.

I also think if a school like NDSU or SDSU wants to establish a D1 BB reputation you can't just have appearances that are one and done. A win or two at the dance as well as showing up consistantly are needed. The formula for UND is probably the same. Both the Sky and the Summit are likely to be autobid only conferences. I just can't imagine either getting an at large.

If UND and NDSU want to have more success in BB, then they better get good enough so a better conference will have interest. Right now it would be a step down for a conference like the MVC to add either (let alone something like the MWC). But as long as there are fans, there will be some fans that are delusional and think that conferences like the MVC and the MWC may come knocking. I sure as hell won't be holding my breath.

  6. Beating NDSU, SDSU, UNI, Montana, Weber, etc would have done wonders for our RPI. Low major conferences like the Big Sky and Summit make or break their RPI during the non-conference season.

Yes, it does seem to me that a team's ceiling is really set in the non-conference part of the season when you play high majors.

  7. Thank God we aren't in the (not-so) Great West anymore! I have never heard of a conference tournament champion having a putrid record like 11-21! The Big Sky looks better every day.

The thing about the Great West, it was the right place for the time. When we were in the Great West it was only football, and scheduling was hell for the other sports. Good grief.......I remember the Bison playing something call Si Tanka. I still am not sure what that was. The Great West was very needed for the transition.

As for the matchups......I like the CBI better than the CIT....but UND has the better opening game. And.....in the end we are both dating the fat girls........anything below the NIT is pretty marginal but it gives the potential for a few more games.

  8. Those are basketball schools since when will UND or NDSU be up to their calibur? Day after never.

I probably agree with that. But, that doesn't mean on occasion if there is decent recruiting and coaching a trip beyond the first round would not be possible. But, it would be tough coming out of two conferences that are pretty poor when it comes to the national scene in BB.

Another big limiter for either NDSU or UND to look at moving up in FB is the inability to increase the size of an indoor stadium. I think for a run at FBS a minimum of 25,000 would be needed and 30,000 would be better. Even at NDSU filling a 30,000 seat stadium might be a tall order......especially when all you play for is a chance to play in a garbage bowl.

  9. His step dad said it was a wardrobe malfunction, in that he forgot to put on "undergear". http://www.valleynew...ts-sons-charges

If what his story was to his step dad was true Jemison received a big screw job from NDSU. I hope he was able to afford to stay in school and work towards a degree.

He was dismissed before his day in court, as it was likely that he was going to have a hard (bad pun) time playing a major role on the field. It was an easy way to free up a scholarship that otherwise would have been tied up by an injured player.

An aside from this... What happens to players that are forced to end their football career because of injuries? Does the school generally honor their scholarship? Or are they effed? Juckem comes to mind for NDSU. Have seen stated that his scholarship is "available", but after the time and effort he's put in for NDSU, don't they owe it to him to help him finish his last year of school? Is a player's academic progress considered in this situation? I realize scholarships are a year to year deal, just wondering how compassion plays a part.

    Carry on...

With an injury.......I believe the schollies are honored, but the team can still fill the scholly. I think this is across the NCAA.

  10. So NDSU has an open date on September 14th, the same day UND play's Montana. If I'm Faison I call up Taylor and say "We understand you need some help filling out your schedule. If it would help I'm sure we can get out of the Montana game and you can come up here". I know full will Gene will not go for it. For the record I could care less if we ever play those arrogant SOB’s again. We are in a better conference and it is time for UND to move on a build new rivalries.

UND would never want to do that. Montana is a top notch game.

  11. MSU hosts Mesa State.

The timeline is not really fair to NDSU, but I understood why. The Mesa State game baffles me though. Seems like a bad move. The only way I could see that happening is if there was absolutely no other alternative and it is purely to raise cash. Games like that do, however, piss the fan base off.

  12. So NDSU didn't have a solid football team when people wanted Bohls head after the 3 win season of 2009? UND played a ranked team every week for almost 2 months we went 5-6 not ideal but not awful.

NDSU had a horseshit team in 2009. I will be the first to admit that I was very surprised at how fast Bohl turned it around. That said....I will be more surprised if Muss and Co. can do it. You must be into that "moral victory" garbage since you think Muss is doing OK.

  13. I have always said that NDSU does not want to tie up OOC games with a home and home every year. That is what Faison wanted and NDSU will never sign a deal like that. Now, Darrell.......put that powerful Akers Business College certificate to work and figure the financial end of it out.

And.......I have no problem saying that you folks have an awful football team. You do and a hell of a lot of your fans agree with that. Good grief....... how many of you were calling for the head of Muss on a platter after last season. Guys like Darrell that think you have a solid football program are pretty damn clueless.

As to a game with NDSU this year.....had the dates worked......it might well have happened if UND would take the cash and travel.

Darrell.........you live in one hell of a fantasy world.

  14. You are right NDSU doesn't need or want UND. We aren't the ones looking for an 11th game. Good luck filling the void without bankrupting the college.

Given how we sellout games I would doubt that it would do anything other than make money. A home game will sellout no matter who plays. There would be absolutely no incentive to do a home and home with UND right now. Get over it. Even that certificate from Aakers Business College ought to let you figure that any home game in Fargo is a huge money maker. A money maker for NDSU and the entire campus area.

  15. Yes backouts suck everyone will agree to that. Was DI a bad move for NDSU or UND? It wasn't for UND since fans wanted to move with the SU's in 04. As for NDSU is hasn't affected them so I guess both are happy in DI. But let's say things would be different is RT and Kuppy weren't in charge in 04...that's why I don't get the grudge by GT. He is the only one on both sides that was there in 2004 and yet here we are today still without an instate rival game.

RT and Kuppy screwed the pooch for UND.
