And that is why they suck. He’s never been and never will be a sioux.

That's not fair.  You don't know what's going on in the locker room  He is probably trying to figure out what his team needs to hear right now to play better moving forward.

I'm guessing they've already been down the 'we suck' road.  you've been on enough teams to realize you can only go to that well so many times.  Maybe he figures it's time to try another approach and work to convince his team that they can get over the hump.

    Point #1: ummmmmmm.........no!

    Point #2: spot on.

Pt #1 - conjecture or do you know it was dictated to Bubba?   I don't know for sure but knowing Bubba a little I think he made the decision on his own.  He gave Rudolf an extra year to right things but I believe that was a mistake.

MoUND hasn't officially announced new WR coach position but rumored hire Sam King is at the Betty in Hawk gear. The GF native impressed the staff during his time as a GA, was with Duluth last season.

Yup, I am still salty about the specifics of this deal. I am all for playing them but the terms are garbage. If one of my sales reps brought me a contract that looks like this I would immediately reject it and re-negotiate.

It was important to Bubba for us to play them and we had zero leverage.

Is Boltman that far away from not being the guy that losing Case hurts that much more?

talked to one of the offensive staff this summer and they really like Boltman.  I hope he gets a shot

Great kid, but we dodged a bullet there.  I was told he wanted to play QB, and UND wanted him on defense so he went to NDSU.

I didn't hear that UND wanted Mertens on defense but wouldn't know for sure.  I was told by someone close to him that he told Dale that the deciding factor for him was full ride vs. half scholarship

This is all correct. Spot on. NDSU’s 2009 and 2010 recruiting classes (many out of Twin Cities) really got the ball rolling for NDSU. Damn

Their recruiting success over us started back when we were DII and we haven't been able to overcome it

    • During DII - we offered half rides to 72 players where they were able to offer full rides.  Mertens told UND the deciding factor was the full ride at SU and Lennon wasn't willing to match that when the rest of the team was on half ride at max
    • When we went DI NDSU was through their transition and we lost some kids because they didn't want to play in a limbo situation for us - Veldman said he picked them because he needed to have something to play for
    • Since then they have been a juggernaut and are getting pretty much everyone they want.  I don't know how we break through that

They need to stop the fight down in Brookings.

    They scored 90.... by halftime.

I think they could pull 5 students from the crowd to play the 2nd half and win by 30...

They will run the table in the Summit.

Their game against Nevada and the Son of Musselman will be a fun one.

In all seriousness, SU should send him on his way, he just took another job.  I heard Bohl and Klieman had to be physically seperated in the locker room, I think in Frisco, when Bohl was hired at WY but stayed on.

    Recruiting and signing date......awkward!!

I know that the Bohl and SU split was not friendly and he is still bitter at the school.

No doubt winning influences the media and other voters for all-conference honors. It’s sort of a catch 22. Have a winning season, get all-conference selections. Have all-conference selections, get winning seasons. I guess we all would like more of both: winning seasons and all-conference performers. Remember individual stats also play big role, which can be real good despite not many wins.

Lastly, as Mike Ditka said, “players win the games, but coaches can lose them.” (Random bit on how good players can still end up on losing teams that are misdirected).

Can substitute 'high end recruits' for 'all-conference performers' too.  Need to figure out how to win enough to be more attractive to the kids we are recruiting.

That's why 3-8 two years ago killed us.

We had one of the most predictable offenses in the Big Sky (and as an independent), and at the same time was one with very little in game adjustments - let alone changes for the next week. We had to be easy to scout, other teams knew what we were doing. We put ourselves in a position where player talent wasn't fully utilized for a good team effort.  Third quarter play kept us out of the playoffs and possibly from a bye this last weekend.

good example was the toss play we ran.  By the end of the season other teams would crash the cb when they saw the pitch, we couldn't get the fb out there to chip him and the play went nowhere.  Happened numerous times in the NAU game.  The one time we did get a piece of the cb we had a good gain.  I don't care if you have to change alignment or put the fb in motion to get him out there earlier - something needed to change.  Even if they knew what was coming it would have had a better chance of being successful if we  had players in the right position.

With the possibility of missing the tourney for the second year in a row it isn't too hard to look at our roster and see where the dead wood is.  This isn't so much a "figure it out" problem" as a "do what needs to be done" problem.  I seem to remember Blais cleaning house on occasion.  We are a top tier hockey program, not some friendly beer league.  You should need to produce to stay here.

Coaches in all sports are reluctant to do this because it could hurt future recruiting.

Love Wanzek and Maag but then we have a poor mans version of them about 4 times over on our roster. How does that help us win? How will that make opposing DCs stay up at night? We need more guys who can really run and are quick and can catch that are preferably around 6’.

my point was that if we had used Izzy, McKinney and Santiago (slot) for the speed guys plus Wanzek and Maag we would have been pretty good at wr this year.

This is my major concern about Freund. Obviously a great guy and the kids love him, but, if he is such a great recruiter and coach why does our wr group look like a church basketball league team?

Wanzek catches everything and is a stud and Maag might be too.  Have a couple of speed guys in Adeoti and McKinney but need to figure out how to get them the ball in space.   Santiago in the slot would have changed the complexion too.  More of a usage thing in my eyes vs talent level.

ran into McKinney's dad in Flagstaff and he told me Cam runs a 4.34.  Not sure how accurate that is if true it should be fast enough.

i think a lot of people are missing the fact that a lot of the punt rushers are 100% not blocked/ignored/free run at punter....literally a jailbreak!

not arguing with that.  I just noticed that the punter sped up his delivery.  It was obvious at NAU
