  1. Grand Forks receives some more good publicity nationally--this time for the housing market: http://economicdevelopmentnews.areavoices.com/2011/02/16/gf-ranked-in-top-10-rising-housing-markets-in-us/
  2. I go way back with Matt. He was a neighbor, and I had him as a coach in four different sports while growing up--park board hockey and baseball, and he was an assistant football and track coach at Central. He was really a good guy, and he will be missed.
  3. I'm looking for big things from Cummings. The backup DE positions appear pretty wide open, and he's supposed to be quite talented. I believe Jablonski was defensive scout player of the week a couple of times. He could see some playing time. Also, while he won't be a freshman, Townsend could really help the receiving corps. I suspect he'd have been a big contributor this past season had he not gotten hurt in pre-fall.
  4. In addition to the Toasted Frog, another recent success story for a locally-owned restaurant in GF is Rhombus Guys: http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/193398
  5. I suspect the disappointing crowd for that game was due in large part to the fallout from the Sioux Falls debacle. A 4 p.m. game on Halloween also didn't help matters.
  6. According to Terry Vandrovec, the Cal Poly-SDSU contract is a 2-for-1, with Cal Poly agreeing to travel to Brookings twice. Apparently Cal Poly is pretty desperate for a home game.
  7. Tom Dennis editorial on Whitey's: http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/192993/group/Opinion/
  8. I think he works for a radio station in Thief River Falls? Not sure.
  9. Anybody know whether NDSU basketball is available on any non-Fargo stations?
  10. Yes, he took over for Scott Hennen a few years ago.
  11. He's the hockey PA announcer. I believe he also calls women's hockey games on the radio once in awhile.
  12. The Toasted Frog is a good example of what can be done when people know what they're doing. When they opened I thought it would be an uphill battle, but by all accounts they've done quite well.
  13. I think 3-2 would be a success. 4-1 would not be out of the question, but then again 1-4 is also conceivable.
  14. If Greg Stennes said that, then I believe it, but it just seems strange that with all the restaurants on the boardwalk, Whitey's would be the one to go under. It has certain advantages that the others will never have in terms of name recognition and history. What disadvantages does/did it have relative to the others, other than the way it was run in recent months?
  15. I miss those days also, but in some ways downtown EGF is more popular than ever. Finding a parking spot on a Friday or Saturday night is tough. The movie theaters have been a huge hit, which I believe has really helped the many restaurants in close proximity. Other than Whitey's under its most recent management/ownership, I guess.
  16. Agreed. Reading the Herald article ( http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/192874 ), Norman seems to have plenty of not-particularly-convincing excuses, but as others have pointed out there are several restaurants on the boardwalk in EGF that seem to be doing just fine, and none has the iconic name and tradition of Whitey's. If you're starting up a new restaurant, I may be able to buy the "competitive marketplace" excuse for why it failed. But when you have an established business that fails under your watch, it's probably not all that difficult to speculate where the blame should be placed. If the right person took over, I have no doubt Whitey's could still thrive in this day and age.
  17. I think "looking" is the operative word. Minnesota has already offered a quarterback from Mankato, which likely means Mollberg is at best second on their list among Minnesota high school quarterbacks (to say nothing of players from other states). Mollberg certainly may end up going to an FBS program, but I suspect there's a pretty good chance he'll end up going FCS.
  18. While I would like to see the last scholarship go to a "big", it appears UND is in the market for another point guard, since as mentioned earlier in this thread there's apparently still an offer outstanding to Wesley Washpun of Cedar Rapids, IA: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Wesley-Washpun-120751 My guess is that if Washpun decides to go elsewhere, perhaps Lipkins is offered?
  19. Here's Mollberg's rivals profile: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Joe-Mollberg-121372
  20. UND is showing interest in Northland CC guard Terrell Lipkins: http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/192777/group/Sports/
  21. Josh Gentry and Shane Benton, both of whom I'm kind of assuming play the 2 or 3 position. Since there's also one more scholarship available, possibly a juco 4 may be brought in? I think the most significant addition may be the return of Wilmer, if he can show more of the promise he showed in the NDSU game.
  22. It comes down to winning, and having reason to have optimism for the future. This is the first year in a long time that there has been legitimate reason to be optimistic about the future of UND men's basketball. I have been watching UND basketball since I was a little kid in the late 1970's, so I've seen plenty of up's and down's.
  23. If everybody else returns, seniors on offense will be: Goska Solum Quesenberry McKendry Daggett Anderson On defense: Watkins Belotti Kudrna Hawkins D. Hendrickson Goertz Bellmore Daniels
  24. Breon Butler and Adam Shaugabay both red-shirted. I suspect both will be strong candidates to see time next year, particularly if Sutton has further injury problems.
