I've heard they may be recruiting one more player. Fortunately, there don't appear to be any glaring needs for the next couple of years.

This was from an article in the Star Tribune on area college football games this weekend:
-
Solum is just a junior, so it's probably too early to draw any conclusions, but he'd have to be considerably faster than he was last spring to be a dI player. He was nowhere near Ryan Chappell in the 100 when the two ran against each other. At about 5'9", 175 pounds (give or take a few pounds), he'd have to be an absolute burner to be considered a true dI prospect. He may get there, but I don't think he is at this point. I'm sure UND will be interested in him, though. He's obviously a very productive back.

The Herald finally had an article on the Jossy Bergan commitment today.

The week of October 3, according the NCC release from yesterday.

UND is at number 2 behind GVSU in the coaches' poll: link.

6'0", and around 175 to 180. Pound for pound, he had to be one of the most durable running backs ever at any level of college football considering his frame and the huge number of carries he had week after week for most of four years. As a sophomore, junior and senior, it seemed like he averaged well over 30 carries per game, and I don't recall him ever missing a start due to injury.
-
If I remember correctly, Roebuck said on one of the last coaches' shows last spring that she was nearly 100% at that point, so barring some sort of aggravation or re-injury, she should be ready to go now.
-
None that I could tell. I don't recall seeing anybody leave the field in obvious pain anyway.

He was also one of the signers of the letter from a group of football letterwinners to Kupchella a year or two ago regarding the dI issue, the response to which ended up in the Fargo Forum.

Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I think the starting defense has only given up 10 points this year. Against CWU, they had a defensive td in the third quarter, and the two td's were in the last 8 minutes against the reserves. West Chester had a td in the second quarter, so that's 7. Winona State had a field goal in the first quarter, and their other field goal was after the starters had come out, so that's a total of 10 against the starters. And Westen Washington's only td came well after the starters had been removed. Also, 132 of Western Washington's 208 total yards yesterday came in their last three possessions, which again occurred vs. the reserves (many of whom were third-stringers).
-
I see where West Chester didn't do too badly against I-AA 6th-ranked Delaware, losing 42-21. West Chester was without their very good running back (Osunde) who is out for the rest of the year with an injury.

Nope, no trophy. The football game itself is just like any other game. The big difference from a normal week is all the other activities leading up to the game.

Does anybody know whether UND has used tuition waivers for any sport besides women's hockey? I don't believe they have, but I'm not certain of that.
-
I will be interested to see exactly what adding roughly 60 scholarships (27 for football, 3 for men's basketball, plus presumably a corresponding 30 for women's sports), plus the greatly increased travel expenses, does to NDSU's athletic budget. We probably won't know the full scope of this until the 2005-06 information comes out, which is more than a year away, but the 2004-05 info will be interesting, also. As for how it compares to UND's, it's an apples-to-oranges comparison. There are simply too many different sports that one school has and the other does not. We all agree that having a deficit of a couple hundred thousand dollars is not a good situation, but it's somewhat understandable considering the recent addition of women's hockey. It's going to be a lot easier for UND to address its deficit than for NDSU to meet its new budget considering all the additional expenses since the 2003-04 season.

I read the article and found it very interesting that Hall used the relationship between Florida State and the Seminole tribe as the model to which UND should aspire. I certainly can't dispute that it's important for UND to have a good relationship with the tribes of ND, and particularly the Sioux/Lakota/Nakota/Dakota, but it's ironic to me that from what I could find on the FSU website, this so-called model institution has NO Indian Studies department or Indian programs to speak of. Just which school should be emulating the other in this case?

I can't understand why the origin of the word "Sioux" is even an issue. Obviously, it's not all that offensive to many people who self-identify themselves as such: example 1 example 2 example 3 example 4

Just a reminder for anyone who's interested, Lennon is on the radio with Swygman and Hennessy tonight at 6:30. It's on 96.1 FM and 1440 AM, and I believe it's on 790 AM in Fargo, as well.

This was in the Herald on Sunday:

The new poll doesn't come out until Tuesday. Not that it really matters, but I wouldn't be surprised if UND moves up to 2. I can't really explain why many polls have Grand Valley State ranked ahead of UND. I'm more interested in how the regional poll will shake out. I believe that will come out in about a week.

Alerus Center gameday or Fargo Dome gameday
UND92,96 replied to SiouxFootballField's topic in Football
I imagine there's a question as to whether the contract between UND and the Alerus even allows UND to play a home game anywhere other than the Alerus during the term of the contract. -
This may very well be the most impressive first three games of a season that UND has had in a long, long time. You expect big margins of victory in home games against weak competition, but to have done so against two 2004 playoff teams and another solid dII program, particularly when two of the wins were on the road, is especially noteworthy. The offense has probably exceeded expectations so far considering the loss of Braegelmann before the season even started, and the season-ending injury to Strouth. Thus far, both the run and the pass have been pretty consistent (both averaging over 200 ypg). Obviously there's a long season ahead, but this has definitely been an impressive beginning.

Winona is a little down this year, but you have to hand it to them for what they've done the past several years with between 9 and 14 scholarships. I'd love to see them in the NCC within a few years.
