Unless schools can successfully challenge this rule through litigation, I'm afraid that's exactly what it means.

The new roster has been posted. It looks like all signees reported, and so far two walk-ons have been added. I didn't notice any key defections from the spring roster, either. It's also nice to see a couple of pretty decent ex-players, Craig Riendeau and Ben Olson, are new grad assistants.

It looks like everybody in the NCC except UND reported seven-figure gross "not allocated by gender" revenue, so I have no idea why UND is reporting differently from the other schools, or for that matter, exactly where this "not allocated by gender" revenue comes from. One encouraging thing I noticed was that among all the NCC schools, plus NDSU, UNC and SDSU, UND had the second-lowest football deficit (MSU-Mankato's was $14,800 less. All of the schools had deficits). Since that time, I believe UND has entered into a more advantageous contract with the Alerus, which would seem to suggest that operating in the black for football could possibly be a realistic goal for UND, particularly if we could get average attendance up to about 10,000 or more. Operating in the black or anywhere close to it definitely isn't a realistic goal for most NCC schools. UNO, for example, was a whopping $933,900 in the red for football.

The high: epic battle with Metro State in the 1990 region final, won by the Sioux. The low: overtime loss to USD in 1993 region final, with Randy Rosenquist making the game-winning shot in the last couple of seconds. In retrospect, it almost seems like that shot ended UND's reign as the NCC top dog (two Elite 8 appearances and three region final appearances in four years), and the Sioux haven't advanced to the region final since.

You are correct--it was a typo on my part. I haven't been to a game at the Fargodome in many years. Do you have to pay for parking, or is there a ticket surcharge?

I suppose any discussion regarding football attendance needs to include some discussion about ticket prices and how much of a role they play in attendance. UND's price for a single-game (non-season-ticket-holder) adult ticket is generally $18.00 ($20.00 for SCSU). For the sake of comparison, here are the single-game prices for other NCC schools and NDSU: NDSU: $12-$15 Augie: $12 UMD: $10-$12 MSU-M: $6-$10 UNO: $7-$20 SCSU: $10 (2004 price--not sure if it will be higher in '05) USD: $10-$15 It appears that most of the other above schools have different prices depending upon whether it's a reserved or general admission ticket, and perhaps based upon the location of the seat, with seats closer to the end zones being lower priced. So, should UND perhaps go to a different ticket pricing policy, perhaps with seats in certain sections being lower priced? How much of a difference would this make in terms of attendance and in terms of overall revenue?

Jerome Beasley is one of 15 players selected by USA basketball to compete for 12 spots on a team to (hopefully) qualify the US for the next world championships. Not that any of these players would actually play in the world championships, but a nice honor for JB nevertheless. link.

Regarding the parking, I agree that it's ridiculous to have to wait 30-45 minutes to get out of the parking lot, which has happened to me at least a few times. However, I would certainly hope that people wouldn't use this inconvenience as a reason not to go to football games. The first thing I'd do is aggressively market to all UND hockey season ticket holders who aren't also football season ticket holders. I suppose there are some people who go to UND hockey games who just don't like football, but to me it's inconceivable to be enough of a sports fan to attend 20-something hockey games per year, but not be at least somewhat interested in seeing a perennially strong UND program play the most popular spectator sport in the country six to eight times per year.

I had the opportunity to watch the 11-man Shrine game today, and I was extremely impressed with UND recruit Bobby Stroup from Fargo South. I think he was clearly the player of the game. He needs to put on about 20-25 pounds, but he looks like he could be another in the long line of great Sioux linebackers. He was all over the field, had a few highlight reel hits, made the play of the game when he sacked the quarterback, caused a fumble, and picked it up and took it in for a pretty long touchdown. Brandon Hellevang also looked good. He hit the crossbar on a 52-yard field goal attempt, but showed that he has great range for a young kicker. He made a 52-yarder in warmups, and his kickoffs were high and pretty deep. Ryan Chappell didn't get to touch the ball all that much, as the west wisely kicked and punted away from him every time. He did have a couple of nice runs, and had a touchdown reception that was unfortunately called back due to a hold.

I posted this in a different thread about a month ago, but here is some information about Jossy Bergan (and her AAU teammates) from an article posted in May: link. At Valley City last year, she averaged 16.1 points per game, and is a pretty good 3-point shooter.

According to a report on the KVLY sports tonight, Central Washington and Western Washington will be added to the NCC as football-only members, starting play possibly as early as 2006.
