  1. Making the big dance is a big deal, whether you're a blue blood or not. It's fine to say that UND will catch up is fine. Nevertheless, UND is at the moment behind. What happened in DII is also nice, but it's not relevant to the question.
  2. Really? I thought making the playoffs and winning games was what it was all about. I guess not.
  3. BTW - SDSU is also ahead in football - 3 FCS playoffs wins...UND, again zero.
  4. Both are clearly ahead in Men's basketball. UND has zero NCAA appearances.
  5. Hasn't UND already said that the Nickel Trophy won't be part of the renewed rivalry?
  6. Funny, US News has UND, USD, and SDSU tied for 4th place on that list @ #202. NDSU is at #188. I don't personally put much stock in those ratings, but c'mon saying it ain't close is simply not true. In Athletics you are also clearly behind both SDSU and NDSU.
  7. Actually, Bismarck was in the running for NDAC, but opted for the state pen. It seem like it would generate more business. At the time it probably did.
  8. Well, it's more than that, but sure counterfactual history = alternative facts.
  9. Again, actual events have nothing to do with it. We are in the realm of counterfactual history. The original post asks us to imagine what would have been best for the state, not what actually happened, or even what was most likely to happen.
  10. But we've departed from events as they actually occurred. We're into the "what ifs" of history. In 1883, the territorial legislature certainly could have, and perhaps should have, decided to put what became UND in Fargo, and for that matter, it could have named that school whatever it wanted, including North Dakota State University.
  11. The thing about counterfactual history is that you can have it any way you want it. It's just as easy to imagine North Dakota having created one large state university in Fargo as it is in Grand Forks. In fact, it seems a bit more logical to me.
  12. Well, that'll happen to even the best teams every 25 games, or so. Still, they might have won had De Luca not been injured..
  13. I'd say the first sentence is correct. After that you're in SiouxVolleyLand.
  14. No, what you "could say" about them is that they don't compare favorable to the mountain scenery of the Big Sky as a travel destination. It makes no difference how they compare to Cedar Falls.
  15. I wasn't comparing Iowa City to Cedar Falls. I was comparing Iowa City to cities in Big Sky conference.
  16. You could say the same about Iowa City or Champaign-Urbana too. Should the Gophers move to the Big Sky for its superior travel destinations?
  17. There you have it...the Bdubs trophy.
  18. You can kiss what's under there...
  19. It has a history that makes it worth caring about.
  20. Huh? What happens after 2020 is irrelevant to the fate of the Nickel.
  21. OK, you "can" unilaterally decide to knock over a 7-11 too. Let's just say it's not the right thing to do.
  22. Location, location, location.
  23. The Nickel trophy really is a valuable artifact. Image how much money it might bring it were to be sold at a public auction. Not that it ever would be.
  24. It's a little more difficult with an interstate rivalry. There really aren't any neutral locations in either state. But the same logic applies, It isn't UND's to keep. Show some class UND. If it can't be played for anymore, figure out a reasonable way the people of the state can see the trophy and learn about its significance from both sides. That can't happen in a closet somewhere on campus, or permanently on display in the Alerus.
