  1. SCSU offered Kyle and Curt a package deal, but that was apparently rejected as well. I'm not sure what the Rau's could be holding out for... maybe a package deal from the goofers or an Ivy?
  2. Thanks for the heads up. I imagine he's one of those "okay-we're-watching-you-now-impress-us" type of prospects. In other words, he'll have to prove himself in juniors before he gets an offer. Speaking of types of prospects, I imagine you could file them into a handful of categories... - Scholarship offer extended - Walk-on offer extended - Official visit (often comes AFTER commitment) - Unofficial visit with invite - Direct contact (if old enough) - Indirect contact (if not old enough) - Unofficial visit without invite - Watching (Useldinger, second largest group of prospects) - Mailing (cheap way to make kids think you're watching them, crazed hockey parents believe this is equivelant to being "recruited")
  3. Actually... Mike Lee. It's one of the reasons he didn't pick the University of Minnesota. Of course, compared to Roseau, St. Cloud is big enough. Being a SoCal kid, Grimaldi may have issues with small town life.
  4. SCSU was apparently in the running for Clark as well, but I gave up on that possibility after we recently snagged Cam Reid away from New Hampshire. To me, at least, it's a wash.
  5. That's right, Aaron Marvin has been saving all his points up to unleash on the Sioux!!
  6. The Huskies are so Hot/Cold this year it's driving me crazy. Lee is fine, Dunn is fine, but scoring sucks. Lasch has three points in eight games... unacceptable. Even Roe's eight points in eight games is behind pace for him. Aaron Freaking Marvin has yet to tally a point in eight games... ugh. I don't dare predict what will happen, but I'll say the opportunity is there for some lopsided scores (in favor of the Sioux). If the Huskies scrape together any points, they'll be hard fought.
  7. I believe this is correct. 1994 born players are free agents as far as the USHL is concerned. I believe Waterloo has the only two in the league right now with Ebert and Vail. Johnson is a 1994, isn't he? Of course, this just means that Johnson will be drafted next year, and it likely WON'T be Fargo. The NDTP could be an option for him as well. Looks like SCSU nabbed a prospect from the Sioux... Tim Daly from Langley of the BCHL was supposed to visit UND, but cancelled his trip after visiting and committing to the Huskies last weekend. Thank God he scheduled his trips in the order that he did!
  8. Actually, I updated it this morning. I've been busy lately, and frankly, there wasn't a lot going on leading up into the season. I'll have an "early season stat leaders" post after this weekend's games.
  9. Sweet!! Even though he's an A rated prospect, I think there's a strong likelyhood that the teams involved might be recruiting him to come in 2011. Under the right circumstances, the Huskies could have a spot available in 2010, but 2011 has a lot more room right now. How did you find out that SCSU was in the mix?
  10. Did anybody else notice that there are equal numbers of MN High School "A" ranked players to WHL "A" ranked players? Also, the WHL has only one more "B" ranked player. LOL @ "The Fastest Route to the NHL".
  11. Nice get. I had him pegged as a potential blue chipper. Interesting that SCSU wasn't on his consideration list considering the Christian connection, I would have thought the Huskies would have been all over him. I'm rather disappointed they weren't. Oh, and I hope somebody is watching out for the Ronsberg kid I tipped you to... he's leading the Winkler Flyers in scoring.
  12. No idea, but with the exception of Eaves, most coaches know how to build flexibility and contingencies into their recruiting strategies.
  13. He was a freshman last year. He'll be a sophmore this year at Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor Michigan. He may try to accelerate his studies and graduate a year earlier.
  14. No problem. Hey, I just realized the last four names I've given you have come from four different birthyears. 1991 - Ronsberg 1992 - Gill 1993 - Van Voorhis 1994 - Mermis
  15. I've got two more names for you guys... -1992 born forward Sahir Gill of the Chicago Steel (by way of the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL) is deciding between you guys, the goofers, and BU. -1991 born forward Seth Ronsberg of the Winkler Flyers (by way of the Minnesota Owls of the MnJHL) is an admitted UND fan. He was the best player in the MnJHL has a 17 year-old, so there's reason for optomism there. Keep an eye on what he can do in the MJHL to see if he's Sioux worthy.
  16. Looks like Sioux wannabe Dakota Mermis will get at least some USHL preseason playing time. He made the 25 man roster for Lincoln. His older brother Jarrod is also on the roster.
  17. I fully anticipate that Dunn will transfer. He actually isn't too bad. For 75% of D1 teams he'd likely be considered an upgrade.
  18. It's been confirmed that Lee is coming in this season. SCSU fans thus assume that Weslosky or Dunn may leave. Weslosky might leave because he doesn't care for school, Dunn might leave if Weslosky doesn't. It's difficult to imagine that SCSU would carry three scholarship goalies. Funny thing is, Lee is such a modest kid that he was 100% willing to stay in the USHL another season, even after being named junior goaltender of the year! He should compete for playing time as a freshman, though Weslosky really isn't at all bad. Lee would have to put up Bachman's freshman numbers to bump Weslosky, and that's asking a lot.
  19. Comes with the territory. As I'm sure Sioux fans can attest from experiece, picking up players soon bound for the NHL can be a nice problem to have. At least with goaltenders, they have to put up spectacular numbers before they move on... which means good things for SCSU. Forwards and defensemen will sometimes move on right as they're starting to find their groove, meaning you've missed their best years. We've had our fair share of those too.
  20. He's just a kid, and anything can happen, but if you're as interested in prospecting as I am, this is a good lead. Ambroz was the only 1993 born player in the USHL last year, and he still projects pretty well. I really didn't expect any 1994's to make the USHL this year, but I was excited to see this kid might get a shot... we'll see. The NTDP should be all over him. I think it was already mentioned, but Matt VanVoorhis will probably verbal to the Sioux sometime soon. He is a lifelong fan and will be playing for the NTDP this coming season. I'm a bit envious. SCSU hasn't had a NTDP player (not counting Mosey) since Casey Borer. I guess I have to settle for a WJC backstop.
  21. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves that I found this first. Dakota Mermis from Afton, IL made the "All-Star" roster at Lincoln's tryout camp. He's a 1994!! Here's the kicker... on his bio page for the Affton Americans, he writes... This kid will probably be offered an early invite to the NTDP after the Select 15's. He's a left-handed defenseman. Trivia: His uncle is HOF caliber offensive tackle Randall McDaniel, formerly of the Minnesota Vikings.
  22. If Mattson will be at UND, why is he participating in Omaha's tryout camp?
  23. IMHO, Seth Helgeson will prove to be a disappointment in the long run. I don't think he'll be the physical force the goofers need him to be. He'll either jump into the play too often and get burned, or he'll get skated around like a road cone in his own zone. Again, this is mere speculation. If he fits any mold, it's David Fischer.
  24. The Exiled One

    Blais

Assuming, of course, that Blais and the talent of US players have improved since 1994. Dean led the team to a 1-5-1 record that year.
