  1. I really don't know what IowaBison was going for on that one...
  2. Thanks for adding nothing to the conversation.
  3. They still are in Fargo SiouxMD, get your facts straight. UND Fargo To answer your question : "Weak System", "Completely Underfunded System", "Every Campus For Themselves", "Weak Chancellor", "Weak SBoHE" The naturally "Completely Underfunded System" leads to an atmosphere of "Every Campus for Themselves".
  4. BisonDan, that would be a good arguement, but the fact of the matter is that UND "Outreach" once again has an office in Fargo. After Potts told them to pack up and leave, somehow they've managed to open it up once again. They offer the same things NDSU does : Bachelor of General Studies (B.G.S) (It's typically called University Studies here) Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or Civil Engineering (We offer all of those classes...) the list goes on.... It has already been pointed out by Chancellor Potts, that this is duplication of programs, but somehow it's still here after he said close it down last year. UND has somehow managed to open it back up. I think this is just more evidence of how uneffective the SBoHE is and the Chancellor as well for not enforcing the decision of last year. I can see UND having a medical center tied with the Veteran's Hospital like they currently have, but they do not need to have a permanent presence in Fargo otherwise. Could you imagine the firestorm of protest if NDSU decided to open a center in Grand Forks? Obviously we wouldn't, because that would be screaming duplication of programs.
  5. aff, the people on the SBoHE are appointed by the governor. The people have no real say in the matter, other than maybe emailing/phoning/writing in their disapproval to the Governor. From the NDUS website : http://www.ndus.edu/sbhe/ The board includes seven citizen members appointed by the governor who serve four-year terms and one student appointed by the governor for a one-year term. What else would I expect Potts to do? If he's worth the $185,000/year were paying him, he should have been able to have met with Chapman and the two could have fixed their differences out and Potts could have expressed his disastifaction then. It would have been more professional than going to the Associated Press and other papers with threatening ultimatums for the Board. I think personally, he's been disatisfied with the job since he's been here (for only two years...). I think this is just his way of getting out of the position, being as he'll be able to blame any negatives from this mess on others, "since people wouldn't cooperate with him". As taxpayers, even though we don't have a voice in selecting who gets on the board, we still have the right to question our leaders. Hence while I still believe Potts needs to come clean and state item-by-item, what caused him to throw out his ultimatum to the board. The taxpayers of North Dakota at least deserve that. I'm not positive that the Governor appointing this individuals on the Board is exactly the best way to run the University System either. There's been issues in the past with an ineffective board.
  6. If the framework itself is limiting a school, then perhaps the framework, (the SBoHE), is the problem and needs to be addressed. It's not a way out there proposal either. Go and read the self assessment the group of the SBoHE, Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, Faculty Advisor, Student Advisor, and the 11 presidents gave themselves. It's a disturbing read which shows that the entire group is not on the same level. June 15th, 2006 Williston Meeting Agenda Start on page 187... (no names are linked to any of the responses). If this is the group of people that are in charge of a soon to be $450 million budget, I think we might want to make sure as taxpayers, they know what the hell their doing. That self assessment above, in my opinion does not show that.
  7. I agree. (Weird feeling I'm getting while agreeing with a Sioux fan....)
  8. I'm still waiting to hear from Potts or the media what exactly his beef is with Chapman, preferably listing specifics, until then I support Chapman for doing whatever it takes to get the money for NDSU to continue as a great institution, even if it means going above Potts to do so. Bruce Christianson had it right, saying there should not be any question about who is in charge,
  9. This above, is the best example I've seen so far of the typical ND conformity thinking... You're telling me there's no difference between NDSU/UND and an institution like Mayville State? I don't personally think this is between NDSU and UND, even though we both fight tooth and nail to get what we need to run our campuses. I think it's more an issue of the much smaller campuses, such as Mayville State, that think they should have the SAME voice, SAME amount of pull when it comes to funding matters. When UND and NDSU both make a $1 billion/year impact on North Dakota and Mayville State is merely kept open so a town doesn't die, I can certainly see why some people wouldn't agree with EQUALITY across all institutions. Just my $0.02 ...
  10. Pott's Ultimatum : http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm...18&section=News From article : [During discussion of the motion, Paulsen told Potts it seemed the chancellor was presenting the board with an “impossible choice”: to side with either him or Chapman.] We are paying the man $183,750/year for this drama? I don't think this is the best way he should have gone about doing this, and it may eventually lead to him leaving. So be it.
  11. Casualties in ND beyond NDSU ? You want to enlighten us or be more specific ? Last time I checked the state was finally starting to turn around...Where is this casualty you speak of ?
  12. I'm sorry HockeyMom, my impolite manners, did you want a piece of my Red Baron pizza? .... it's yummy.
  13. That's ok. Everyone knows about NDSU Hockey thanks to Red Baron pizza, my new pizza of choice... Yum....
  14. People, People, People... I'm just telling you were working with MIT, no need to get all up in arms about it.... (But it was a good thing being said from Dorgan wasn't it???... maybe all of UND should take heed and realize that there are 2, yep I said it, 2 good institutions in this state...) It might make the world, or at least our little corner of it, a better place.... Ok, let the daily NDSU and NanoBison bashing begin ...
  15. To the person who said, you've already given up on competing with MIT and the likes... We aren't competing with them, we are doing research with them. Of course, in terms of research grants in general, we're competing with the same pool everyone else is competing against for NSF dollars. http://www.ndsu.edu/research/article.php?article_number=72 My favorite part of the article : "NDSU being selected to work on the project shows what a world-class education center it is", Dorgan said.
  16. Wondering whay your guys opinion on this was : http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm?id=128935 Pretty good article from someone who constantly slams NDSU...
  17. I never said you didn't have to follow the 3rd party's recommendations. I'm glad we didn't. But those recommendations at least showed an unbiased view of what we were up against if we did decide to make the move anyway. The information in that report is totally bias and there are so money "more research on the topic needed at this time" bullets, I almost had to wonder if the comittee fully did their job. Basically what I'm saying is, it's not the recommendation that you should be concerned with, it's the data your being provided to you. Many people on the board so far (albeit mostly NDSU fans) have pointed out several flawed figures in the report. If that's the type of info you want to go on, fine whatever... It's your schools decision. It just gives us more opportunity for "I told you so" when it doesn't work out in your favor. By the way, to the earlier comments, what school isn't begging for money?
  18. Boy oh boy do your guy's cheap shots get better and better. Thanks for the Masturbation one, that was great. The manure one was good to. Real classy. If you guys are going to insult us, why don't you come up with some new original material??? BobIwabuchiFan, you must be really lacking on confidence of your program since you posted 3 posts on the SAME thing in a row. One would have been sufficient. Look at the enrollments for the two programs. The students know which is better. It speaks for itself. The only thing big I've heard come out of your Aerospace Program is a problem on where to house your NASA jet. (Bob, no need to reply unless it has something to do with the topic of the thread) To get back to the topic of this post, "Buning Says UND Moving", in my opinion you guys still have to convince Kupchella on the move. He's been dead set against it since the beginning and has been looking for a chance to flee when it presents itself. You better hurry up and do it. Only 27 days remain until your locked into Div-2 for another year, thanks to your great leader. Please don't try that "Buning said were going, the president and him are in planning with one another". Kupchella is the one who decides the final fate and will take the brunt of the bite back if your move isn't successful (for example, you realize 1 year down the road that an extra $1,000,000/yr isn't going to cut it so you go back to Div-2). Please don't say "the money will be there" either becuase of the last great gift the university received. Most of that is probably going to academics (which it should...). Finally you guys should really get an unbiased outside 3rd party group to do a report for you. Not a UND internal commitee. If you guys make the move based upon the figures in that report, I certainly wish you the best of luck, but I would highly advise against it.
  19. Agree with you 100%. Both are decent schools and have strengths in their reputable programs. Except that NDSU does have the better Engineering Program. Thats a fact.
  20. You're proud to say your a 3rd Tier school? The only reason any of those stupid lists exist, is to sell more magazines. You want a list, goto the Carnegie Foundation and look up the research rankings.
  21. I was pretty much disappointed with the report. It basically read like a biased advertisement for UND. I'm not quite sure it would be a wise decision, based upon this report, to decide to make the move. I would seriously suggest getting an outside firm or another 3rd party to do a better analysis and then finally make the decision from there. If you were to make the move, and then decide to move back to DII after an exploratory year or two, I'm not sure fans/administration/Kupchella/Bunning would be able to withstand the backlash that would create (which is why Kupchella is very iffy on the issue). It's best to have a thorough study of the issue from an organization not associated with UND. Then go from there.
  22. Orchestrated or not, it's certainly good entertainment for us down at Bisonville!
  23. How dangerous is that job-wise, in terms of Bunning coming out and saying that before the Big Cheese even mentions anything? That took gahonas... either that or lack of brains (not thinking in terms of job security apparently)... I guess will find out soon enough.
  24. Obviously I saw the twinkle light sign that said INSULT with a laser show spelling out WERE BETTER THAN YOU NANO. Then again, I may have been on some heavy medication at the time.
  25. Tried, each one of them. They don't have enough hits to even register on the system. Basically, you can't get any proof positive results, only speculation on what may be causing those search trends and the factors moving their count higher. Neat tool by Google.
