SiouxFan4Life replied to Fighting Sioux #1's topic in Football
Ok.....Hate to say I told you so.....But yeah....We scored 2 more touchdowns then I predicted....But how about that shut out.....People are "sleep" on how good our defense is.. I also have another prediction. SHut-out streek extends from now into the playoffs.. Watch and see ...so sorry duluth, mankato, omaha, and south dakota....Just how our boys play ball -
WOW...Ferris St. running back sets record

Ill make a prediction ....Shut out on Ferris state..UND 31- Ferris -Nill. Strouth is Offensive player of the game. Brandstead Defensive player of the game...Babington-Johnson Special Teams player of the game. (the last prediction purely because of the clipping play he had last week.) -
I agree with you almost 10 percent. You need to play players that are being productive. North Dakota has never canned the season to develop one player, and we better not start. I wasnt sold on Belmore ever, he is too nervous.. He has never played in or won a big game...As appose to Manke, who might not be the perfect everything but he has moxy, and Detroit Lakes always plays in big games, and they have the rings to prove them. If a university didnt evaluate another player simply to save feelings, that university is headed down hill. I dont think thats the case here, I think the first half is the make or break half for Belmore. With Duluth and Mankato coming up, that would be enough time for Manke to get his feet wet, and confidence up. I honestly think Manke will ride out the rest of the season into Alabama. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH....another Manke proves to be clutch..............

Well put..In all honesty I like Grossman. I just want him to be more consistent, because he has the tools, to be a go to reciever, especially since he will be the lone returning reciever next year. I dont think any linebacker should be able to cover him in the country, and his routes should give most safetys problems as well..Just has to focus in relax and just make the big play
-
All I have to say about Dan Grossman is Mesa State!!!!
-
I dont like Dan Grossman as a starting reciever for one reason...He drops big passes....Wether it be Mesa, or just open balls for touchdowns(Delta State was not P.I.). He is 50-50. I think webber should start and grossman is better as a 3 anyway. He and webber are the same, except webber doesnt drop balls from what I have seen, and from what I have heard. Plus Webber only has one year....lets use him, grossman can come back hungrier next year. And what is the deal with Rick Presthus.. he is by far our tallest reciever, is he not healthy, ..

I look for the Sioux Defense to have another dominant showing. This time Central Washington actually has the ability to pass, and though we shut down the run last week, and the week before, we still cant allow anyone to have 200 yards recieving personally (though the two chunks came on a questionable call, and one bad angle), . I want a shutout, and we havent had one yet, and I think it is perfect to get a streak started going into the bye week, and starting the conference season. Lets go sioux defense...You guys have all the keys, and depth and players, lets see you put together another complete game, and we didnt have any defensive touchdowns last week (Gagner was soooo close). I predict we will have a score like 53-0. With two defensive scores......Go SIOUX!!!!!

Im not worried about Jeff one bit. He came off of his most clutch season in his life, and he is a pre-season all american. Guys who always hit in the clutch, will eventually get in sync enough to hit during the middle stages of the game. Have faith. Plus all of his games will be indoors except for st.cloud, augie, omaha, and the national championship game in Alabama. I think he will build up enough momentum for himself to be just fine.
-
Looking forward to Saturdays game, I see a few things: 1. I think Roland and our running attack will be too much for these Delta boys. That finess ish isnt too fancy when we get moving down hill. 2.I think special teams will be a large determining factor= Our All-American kicker versus theirs. It will be interesting to see , but I have a feeling as long as he is healthy that Jeff will be money. 3.I think our defense under the schooling of Tibesar will be phenomenal. I look for all our talented players to step up specifically: Digger: He just gets better every year, and really impress' me with his class, and ability to read things well. Brandstead: His coverage looks a lot better from last year, which means the big hits wont be all. Gagner: That kid is just down right special, and from what I hear is a real student of the game. Duescher: I think the nose gaurd will be huge in matchups against fast teams, because if the middle is closed, people are waiting on the outside. Babington-Johnson: He played well against North Alabama and from what I hear the two teams have similarities. Manke:He will be covering an all-american, but I think he is primed for his best season yet. 4.WR's. Everyone is saying this is the question mark of the team, and with a senior quaterback returning, I look for the Wr/s to take off and never look back especially Johnson, Grossman, Groeschol, and Webber.

I wouldnt fret too much about the depth chart myself. IM pretty sure Jamal Franklin will start. As well as Dan Ullspberger at weak side linebacker. And Babington-Johnson not being seen on the depth chart shows the depth we have, and Im pretty sure we will see him on the field alot(trusting he doesnt derail hiself)(i.e. Riza). But as a defensive whole were super stacked, Im excited to see how coach TIbesar handles it all.

Does anyone else have current favorites? Only including people that are on the team now???
-
What an exciting game it was....atleast if you like defense. Man...So many things stood out. Tom DeSautel was statistically player of the game...Two maybe three interceptions isnt bad. I dont know if a starting spot is open, but he sure proved he can play. Jeff Richter had an interception looking similar to Chad Mustard rumbling into the endzone (though his celebration could use some work).. I dont remember anyone else standing out defensively because it was an all around dominant performance. Josh Brandstead layed a nice hit on Adam Roland.. and Zach Babington-Johnson looked quick off the edge as usual. Offensively...Roland put together some nice runs, and so did Brandon Strouth..The offense was clearly out matched but they carried the ball well. I was interested to see how Demetrius Charles looked since he is soo speedy, yet I was not impressed, though I dont recall him getting the ball much. The Passing game was damn near non existent. The offense completed the longest pass of the day late to Alec Van Dyke. To sum it all up...Defense looked good, offense needs some work, but it should be exciting next year.
-
Yes...Ross is back ...and about 290...he is playing both nosegaurd and defensive end...I also hear that alex cadwell is looking great..Probably one of the few freshman to see time defensively..I did see the scrimmage saturday..Robbie Meek and Michael Greenwood definately stood out.. Both had interceptions...Defense just looked dominant... As far as injuries go...I saw Brett Svidal, Josh Guenther, Zach Babington-JOhnson, Dwane Wenzel all not participating in the scrimmage..I assume they were hurt..ANyone have info if anything serious...or if they will be in the spring game...
-
Travis Lueck deserves some love as well....He had some of the more exciting plays I have ever scene offensively...When ever he had the ball...there was a buzz.....definately would have been a big help against GVSU...he definately went down in history with his game against NDSU...
-
I would have to say that Digger is my frontrunner for favorite sioux...There have been some great linebackers here, but he........is in a class of his own....and he is only getting better, and had his freshman season cut short...His intensity, plus he just has an old school attitude...all business.....could easily be the best that played here
-
From what I hear, spring practices are going very well. Though the depth chart hasnt changed yet from the season, I do know things are very intense..Dan Ullsperbeger and Nordick are fighting it out for the starting will spot. Im pretty sure Jamaal Franklin will be starting. Im not sure if Brandon Strouth will beat out Adam Roland, they have two different styles....I guess we will see. Im very interested to see how the WR situation shakes out...Jeff Webber, and Josh Ranson add an interesting wrinkle to the depth chart. And at the outside spot...it should be interesting to see With Dahlen the starter and Hermes a senior , and Babington-Johson it will be interesting, and on the opposite side I see Steve Brennan and Brook Maier fighting it out. SHould be fun...first scrimmage is wednesday...
-
Sorry Im late finishing this......but no one responded anyway. So maybe Im just doing this for myself...Anyway I would definately say the valuable 2 from this years freshman class would be Brandon Strouth, Jason Hoffschneider, and Zach BabingtonJohnson. For the redshirts, I guess I will have to go with what the coaches felt.....Rick Presthus, Jeff Webber (though he isnt a freshman)Alex Cadwell....... I do wonder about Josh Ranson, who could be a bigtime player...I guess we will see soon, because spring ball is less than a month away..
-
I think the most valuable seniors out of this class would have to be John Bowenkamp, Adam Roland, and Ryan Manke. I believe all three will determine a large part in the success of the program next year. In the Juniour class It is extremely tough. They are so stacked. I would obdviously say Digger, and then maybe Brandstead and Gagner. Digger needs no explination, but Im excited to see what Brandstead and Gagner do when they are on the field together..... I will continue to think about the other two classes
-
That is good information to know. Hey, if you would rank the top 3 players as far as team value by class. LIke the top 3 seniors, juniors, sophs, freshman. Either side of the ball...I would be intrested to find out. I will also process this
-
From the looks upper Iowa must be struggling as well. To be IAA and have Southwest State, Duluth, Mankato, Waldorf, and Oshkosh on your schedule, isnt very impressive in my mind. I would think Bubba wouldnt schedule them either, unless it would get a W.
-
I dont agree that Stratton was D1AA caliber. I dont think he held the starting position this season stricly because of his play. He consistantly missed tackles, didnt make the big play. I believe Brandstead will definately show how the position can really be played. I believe Both our starting safeties next year are D1 caliber. As will both our inside backers (DIgger and Dan) Our outside situation also since I see Dahlen and B-J as very capable. I actually think Jason Peterson will show his big time talent, with that huge wing span. And offensively I believe Ranson, Kuper are very capable. I hope to see however this spring and fall what they all are really capable of. I think Jared Nestland does a great job from what I have heard with workouts, and I see everyone making huge improvements.
-
I agree that UND was fed up with playing the crookstons. However I also think they were somewhat forced to find good opponents. With the number dwindling in the NCC and loosing some of the good teams, combined with other schools playing good competition, I think it hurts rankings, etc. Also you want your players at a certain level heading into the playoffs, and that wouldnt happen playing 6 crookstons.
-
I totally agree with this statement. I think it would be interesting to hear who people think the d1-aa caliber players on UND's team are, I will also try to formulate an opinion
-
I heard rumors that eithr Ross Walker, or Ross Brennan returned. Either way that is huge. If its walker, that is a nice sized, athletic outside linebacker since he was 250 plus. If its Brennan the nosegaurd spot just became sick. With him, plus Duescher coming off honarable mention season we might need to run a 4-4.!!(j\k) But I think recruiting will take a different shape for this year. No one I see that we sign, will see time within this next year or 2 so I think we might go after a different kind. Though you still go after the best player.
-
Great point. SIze usually matters the most on paper. And last year we were a bit inconsistent. But that was the first time a lot of these guys ever saw time, or saw time in such a considerable fashion. THis year they will be dominant. I look for huge increases in the games of Ullspberger, Hoffschneider and Babington-Johnson, I think they had some of the better seasons ever considering they were redshirts.
