  1. Is there a difference between being a benefactor and actively purchasing life insurance on an alumnus? IMO...yes. Not that I see it as wrong only that there is a difference.

I agree, you are correct. I would be surprised however if those big alumni donors did not give some sort of permission....?

  2. For what it is worth....

When I was forunate enough to fly back with Ralph on his plane back in 1997 after winning the NCAA Hockey Div1 National Championship in Milwaukee, Ralph spoke very candidly about what he wanted to see at UND in order for him to donate more money........I will not mention these items now , but all seemed to happen and we ended with the Largest Gift to date of 100 Million (Was originally supposed to be roughly 50 million for arena /50 million as UND saw fit, education ect..., but it all ended up in the Arena).

Ralph also spoke of a wish to be the largest contributor to a University ever.....It would not surprise me if in the future Mr. Engelstads generousity reaches a higher level than most can ever imagine......However with his passing, things can change, so I guess we will all have to just wait and see.......

  3. New England punched their ticket to Glendale, AZ in February with this deal.

I disagree.... leopards can't change their spots....? I will be surprised if he lasts the year.

  4. i dont think they practice in there. Only one day a week they rent ice for an hour or two.

They still pay. It is part of the UND Athletic Cheerleading Budget...(Ice Time)

I just hired a couple of UND Cheerleaders for summer work, they were told to study the budget and see where they could cut costs, so they could save their program. I was told it was a noticeable chunk on money. They told the Athletic Director, they think they can get Ice Time at the Purpur or the Blue Line club for free. Some teach lessons there and feel they can work it out.

Budget can not be that big...? In St Louis they shared 2 rooms for 11 girls, Talk about a bathroom schedule...?

  5. Irish,

I feel your pain, and I agree with alot of your posts and conclusions. However I do not feel that this is the Athletic Directors total fault, He may be responsible on how it gets administered, Letters are not the best. I believe this is the price we are going to pay for the "New Ralph". It was a problem when Roger Thomas was the AD also, how do we balance our Athletic Budget? It Seems our Athletic Budgets keep pace with our Increased Revenues in Total, but I believe that it is the inner allocations that have changed, Every Coach I have talked with has said their budgets have been cut, and then these funds seem to go to either funding of the Betty or now for increased rentals.

I certainly do not have the answer, but as I have always said we have a "Strange Arrangement" at best with the REA, as to athletic funding. We currently have to pay to use Facilites for Hockey, B Ball, Volleyball, Football. 7 Years ago (Good old Days) we did not, plus the fact that we had revenue streams in Ticket Sales, Concessions, Marketing ect..

I was pleased to see the Carr report pointed this out, and questioned the relationship.

I wish I had the answers, but I do feel whoever was in Athletic Adimistration would be having the same difficultlies, can they be handled better, I'm sure, but again some of that is also REA...(Take em or Leave em Attitute). I'm not talking about the Current REA Staff either , Jody has been great and done Good things, Alot is beyond his control. It is the REA trust that is really in charge a Board of 5-7, that do not all agree......I wish Ralph was still here, I feel things would be different.

I have also found myself down sizing from Directors with 8 Tickets to all Sports, To Coaches Club with 4 tickets to all sports, and Next year who knows, and this has happened in all in the last 5 years.

Anyway all we can do now is support what we can, corperate America seems here to stay, everywhere..... :D

  6. I know The Walrus is a *big booster* and fan of UND sports, I just think he takes his disappointment with Buning getting the job he wanted Bollinger to have too far. I think it clouds his judgement and he needs to be more open to the idea that Buning has good points and has done good things.

I challenge you to tell me where I have said negative things about Tom Bunning...? We happen to disagree on various issues. I have never posted anything on this Board that I have not conversed to him directly, we still remain friends.

I do not hide behind a hidden screen name like most.... Everyone knows you I am!

    * Why does my weight have to be a issue..?

    Have a nice Day! :glare:

  7. Those uniforms are hideous, and I'm not just saying so because I dislike that particular team. I actually liked the look of their old uniforms.

I agree, I'm a Denver Bronco fan at heart, and they are the ones that seem to start with this sword stripe down the pants, and connected to a panel rib in the jersey.....

Maybe I'm too oldschool but I like the traditional unifroms thru out the years Old Nebraska Cornhuskers, The Fighting Irish of Norte Dame, The Ohio State University....

This is a great Helmet site to browse and remember the old days...

  8. Controlled Scrimmage Today at Spring Practice....What a Great Day!!!! (Weather)

Defense look great right out of the gate, played with alot of emotion, couple picks, couple forced fumbles, one recovery taken to the house by Battle (Moved from RB to DB)........We have some LB's that are going to get after it!!

Look for Schwenzfeier to get in the mix as a Freshmen in Def Backfield.....

As the scrimmage wore on the Offense got into a litte rythum strung together some 1st downs and scored a couple times...

Freund and Konrath taking most of snaps...with Landry and Setness getting few..? Freund, Konrath looked even, slight edge to Konrath as the O moved the ball better when he was in..... Landry throws the nicest ball of the group but did not complete a pass in 4 attempts (3 drops).....Recievers struggled a little catching and holding on to the football....

Chappel only played 1st series, and Dressler did not play...... Offense at a little disadvantage missing 6 Olineman with School, Track, or dinged up...

All in All fairly good scrimmage..... Kicking was not 100% , but timing a bit off with back up snapper in, once again School requirments, and track for some of the front line guys...

  9. I disagree on REA, though, and I think Carr errs in lumping it in with Alerus. REA isn't a multi-use facility seeking independent profit, it's primary mission is to benefit UND (despite some of the power conflict between REA and the athletics staff). UND will eventually own REA, outright (unless we change the name, first, and they implode it).

Where has all the money gone? It seems that since it's inception REA has taken over almost all marketing, ticket sales, concessions for UND and our Athletic Budgets for all most all sports have been cut in the last 5 years. I feel they have been more efficent and effective, even tho they seem to be quite a bit less fan friendly. Why hasn't our Athletic Budget's flourished with this Donated Addition....?

  10. In fairness, I was basing my opinion on more than just Steve Johnson and Pierre Lamoureux being friends, but I'm not at liberty to say more than that at this point
    .

I was told that Steve Johnson's references on the resume for application were Dave Hakstol, Dean Blais and Pierre Lamoureux.....hmmmmm?
