  1. I like 'andtheHomeof theSioux'. It means something to all of us who have attended home games (and even some away games!). I have no clue what ACF1 is. :silly:

ACF1: "AC" for America's Cup sailboat racing. F1: for Formula One auto racing.

I think I will leave it. Pretty much every time I hear the National Anthem I think of the Sioux.

  2. Mr. Siouxmama and I went through the same thing in Las Vegas in 2001 (?) when the UND football team was playing for the national title in Alabama. Not even the Imperial Palace knew anything about the game. We ended up buying off sale and going back to our room to watch it.

Yea I know what you meen. We were at Sportsworld in Minot once and had to ask to get the hockey game on so we could watch it. They did put it on which was nice.

  3. Thanks everyone for the comments on reaching 100. Now, should I stick with the current name or change it to "ACF1" (like it is on SpeedTV's motorsports forum) or "ACF1-Sioux" (like it is on USCHO)?? Thanks for everything.

I'll probably leave it though. (its kind of cool plus it's generaly the longest log in name on the site)

  4. No $hit!!! Those 'Canes were incredible. The Oilers, are the number 2 team in the NHL and I am NOT being sarcastic. They are that good!

    I wish it lasted longer.

I agree with every thing stated. The Oilers just did not have the same depth that the 'Canes had but they beet out all other chalengers. Congrats to both teams. And yea, what a series! It was great! Boy, nights like this remind you of why you love hockey so much.

Side note: my 100th post on SiouxSports.

  5. Close your eyes and I'll give you a good visual.

There is a BIG guy with BIG RED HAIR (gotta love those fellow redheads) wearing a red jersey with the #22 on it. Someone hands him a beautiful silver trophy, he holds it overs his head and brings it down to give it the ceremonial kiss, pumps it in the air a couple of times and then hands it off to the next teammate. A beautiful sight.

Thank You. What the heck! There can't be any more emoticons in this message! So pretend there is a smile right after the "Thank You."

  6. I understand the point you are making. Your original comment was so general that I think we could come up with offensive nicknames if we tried. However, as for nicknames currently in use, I would agree with your point.

Yea they maybe were to general. Any name/logo is to general, if you don't know the context. Indecent (no, the Fighting Irish logo is not indecent) logos/names should not be alowed. But that is a different discussion. I would not be offended by a school who used the nickname "pirate" and a corresponding logo, even though pirates are not realy something you would want to "honor." I hope the point I am trying to make has made it across clearly. It blow my mind how anyone could be offended by UND using "Sioux" as a nickname/logo. No school is going to purposefully slam their nickname/logo. That is contrary to building fan support. If opposition fans slam it that is not UND's fault.

Edit: And opposition fans are not even slamming the Sioux Indians. They are slaming the opposition "team." I have nothing against gophers, only the team that is nicknamed for them.

  7. I don't know that I would go as far as you.

None of the school's logos/nicknames are offensive and abusive. If a city is named for someone, like a saint, or like Bismarck, for a foreign dignitary, does not meen you should have to change it. I am of German decent and I have no problem with N.D.'s capital's name. City's are often named for people influential in their founding (Minot), for people of historical significance (St. Paul, Fargo), or for natural features (like, Grand Forks). School's are often named for local animals. They are also named for local people (Cornhuskers, Cowboys, and Sioux).

  8. It's disheartening that though Jacobs basically agrees with UND's position but thinks that the smart thing to do is to bend over and take it. If contact the Jacobs and tell him the name of his paper offends me will he change it just to avoid any potentially negative publicity? I highly doubt it. Nor should he.

IMO his perspective on the right way to handle this situation is all wrong.

No one should have to change any name/logo just because someone else thinks that it offends them; even if the offended have the majority possition. What is going to happen if some group of people decides that North Dakota is offensive and abusive?:silly: Or Lake Sakakawea? Or what if St. Paul (city) offends the none religious??? This has to be stopped!!

  9. Boy you don't want to open that pandoras box, Special? Need more money? What university and thier president are siouxing (pun intended) over a naming rights issue which by most peoples opinion is a no brainer? Why is UND so special that they alone shouldn't have to change their name yet other universities do? Talk about the proverbial pot calling the kettle black. What is it about unky kuppy that he thinks he's so special?

Siouxmenow you are nothing but a hypocrite

A no brainer?!?!?!? Have you done any research? And, "they alone shouldn't have to change their name yet other universities do?" That is so wrong. None of the universities (that I know of) on the list should have to change their names. No one should be offended by UND's nickname.
