  1. I am not from Grand Forks so I only hear UND sports games, not the local coverage. I will say though that the anouncers for the Sioux hockey games are very good. And also, I would not like it if I couldn't hear UND games in the North-Central part of the state (ND) because a local station in GF got the contract. But I can see why locals wish the coverage was better.

  2. Curling...I have never done it before. I would not be surprized if it is quite fun though.

I suppose I should add that I am kind of a Green Bay Packers fan. I also like lots of sports in general, though to different degrees.

  3. Wow! the ncaa has taken it this far. The William & Mary "Tribe" with two feathers for a logo is offensive and abusive. Boston College can't be to far from getting banned then with their "Eagles" nickname and logo. And I agree with PCM, how the heck are we responsible for the other school's fans?

Just wait until the animal rites crowd gets the ncaa to ban all of the schools with animal nicknames and logos. After all, how many Gophers, Badgers, and who knows what have been killed and thrown on the playing area. Not to mention the "(fill in the animal) suck" chants.

  4. What are you Sioux fans fans of besides UND? Are there any fellow sailing lovers out there? Also, are there any Formula One auto racing fans out there? I love F1!!!! Just curious!

If there are any other different things you are a fan of go ahead and post it. :0

  5. Let me help even more:

Here's what's been to this point:

    2005-2006:

    SCSU H/A; UM H/A; UW H; UMD H/A; MSU-M H; DU H/A; CC A; MTU H/A; UAA A

    2004-2005:

    SCSU H/A; UM H; UW H/A; UMD A; MSU-M H/A; DU H; CC H/A; MTU A; UAA H/A

    2003-2004:

    SCSU H/A; UM H/A; UW A; UMD H/A; MSU-M A; DU H/A; CC H; MTU H/A; UAA H

    2002-2003:

    SCSU H/A; UM A; UW H/A; UMD H; MSU-M H/A; DU A; CC H/A; MTU H; UAA H/A

(Remember when UM didn't come to Grand Forks?)

Based on that, and knowing it's a four-year rotation, and without looking (promise) I'd guess that 2006-2007 will look just like 2002-2003.

To answer your question I never used to follow the Sioux that closely.

But one more question :0 How does SCSU get a H/A every year? It must be because there is an odd number of conference teams the Sioux play but why SCSU?

    Thanks for all!

  6. Once a Fighting Sioux always a Fighting Sioux. I won't be cheering "let's go Flickertails" that's for sure!

Yea! I will always cheer for the Fighting Sioux, never will I abandon them. I don't think I will ever cheer for any other nickname UND might use. If they change the name I don't know if I will still cheer for UND but if I do it will almost surely be for the Sioux not whatever they might change the name to. Fighting Sioux Forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Does anyone else think this would be a worthwhile thing to do? I am assuming not since I didn't hear any comments back. Does that mean most of you think that the Sioux should be left out of this and that it is between UND and the NCAA now? Just curious.

I think the Sioux Indians should support UND in the use of the logo and nickname. But I also think that just because someone (or a group of people whether they are the majority of not) is offended by the nickname and logo is no reason you should not be able to use it. The University of North Dakota should be able to use it with or with out the support of the Sioux Indians. I will be offended if they change the name, yet it will not be changed back because I am offended. It is like owning a gun. You can still own a gun even if the majority of the people in this country are offended by it.

  8. I don't know about the rest of you but that brief time without SiouxSports.com was really scary!! I only just crawled out from under the bed!! Phew, it's up and running!!! Life is good!!!

Wow! I agree with Sioux-cia, it was scary! Thanks for getting it back up and running administrator (and who ever else helped, if any). From the sound of things it had to be done though. I was not a member for the "ugly crash" but it sounds like it was bad.

  9. How do you explain a state that is so overwhelmingly pro-Republican in presidential elections continuing to re-elect three members of Congress who are so overwhelmingly opposed to everything the president stands

    for?

It's just as ironic as the Catholic Church preaching vote Democrat, support 'immigrants' rights, stand up for the poor, etc., yet you hear the appeals every Sunday ranting against gay marriage and abortion.

Am I the only one who is confused?

This state votes Republican for presidential elections because this state is Republican. But like other small states (population) it votes Democrats into the Congress to "Bring Home the Bacon" meaning that they get money for the state.

I don't know where you found out that the Catholic Church is pro-Democrat. Most every true, loyal Catholic (I am also Catholic) I have talked to is not pro-Democrat. I and other Catholics I know were opposed to John Kerry for president even though he is a Catholic.

  10. Does anyone have an idea on what the University's next move will be now that their appeal was denied? Will there be legal action? Or will there be a different move? I am just wondering what is going on because they must have some sort of plan.

Also, I have figured that if they can not get permission to use the nickname and logo they should just put white spots on their jerseys where the name and logo are supposed to be. I never want to see them use a different name!

  11. I'm no Bison fan (in fact I hate them with a passion), but speaking as somebody who watched a lot of games... I think the current NDSU team would easily beat their mediocre teams of the mid '90s but would get slaughtered by their 1986 national championship team.

So does that mean that the talent level between D-2 and D1AA is not that significant? I suppose we will find out when we play Northern Iowa. I also do not like the Bison but they do serve as a good guide.

  12. I don't think it is that immature. Their win against Minn. is only part of the reason I am going to buy a Holy Cross T-shirt, heck, I was given a gopher jersey earlier today and I am not sure what to do with it but I sure am not going to throw it away! Holly Cross is, if I am not mistaken, a Catholic school and I am Catholic. They have a cool nickname in the Crusaders. Also they are not a very well known school (at least as far as I know-maybe in B-ball or something they are better known). They are a D-1AA football school, now I have a team to cheer for at that level. Go Crusaders!!!!!! Go Sioux!!!!!!

I got my Holy Cross T-shirt the other day. It is very cool! I got the all purple one that says "Holy Cross Crusaders" on the front along with the logo.

I wonder how much Holy Cross gear has been bought by UND fans?

Go Holy Cross Crusaders! (Fighting Sioux are on the signature)

  13. I was just thinking, if I were a coach of one of these traditionally weak teams, I would fill my line-up with older players from each league that have shown scoring ability, but haven't been given a scholarship, ala Les Reaney from last year. With so many players bolting to the pros in college hockey, and the youth of the traditionally top teams, you should at least be able to compete with 24 year old seniors on your team. College basketball has teams like Northern Iowa that are able to compete with the big boys every once in a while because they keep their players all four years while the big schools lose players to the NBA. The Sioux did well when Blais first came here with older USHL players that weren't high draft picks. I just think the way college hockey has gone lately, that teams like Tech and Alaska should at least have a cyclical competitiveness being that other teams are constantly without big senior classes. What would the rest of you do if you were coach of a lower-tier team?

I think your idea has some merit. Look it how well Minnesota state did against the Sioux. They were a much older team and had more expeirence; plus, they have only lost one player to the NHL so far in David Backes, a Jr.

  14. This is just my opinion on the whole draft thing into the NHL. I wish there was some restrictions on them drafting....players should not be able to talk with the NHL until their junior/senior years. Also they can't draft anyone under the age of 22. Can you image how interesting this would make college hockey if they weren't drafted at such a young age. What do you think that our chances at winning the Frozen four would have been if Zach, Brandon, Greene wouldn't have left early, along with other players throughout the WHCA. I think the competition in the WCHA would be unbelievable if these guys would hve stayed until they were seniors.

Maybe if the restrictions were put in place there would be more talent to go around because the powerhouses would not have so much turnover and the smaller teams would have more of a chance at good players. Sure the powerhouses will most likely still be better but at least Tech, for example, could probably get some decent players.
