They have but Minnesota blocked it, then a federal judge so it’s all politics. I guess not going under in 97 was their mistake.
The Diversion is the mistake. Permanent diking is more then adequate to provide complete protection but in the now 10 years since the 2009 flood, Fargo still hasn't completed the dikes in town (along the river) that are required even with the diversion. The diversion is an economic development boondoggle that continues to get more and more over budget.

What should Grand Forks be doing to improve growth? (other then have an oil field show up right next door)

Is there another sport that encourages 'specialization' like hockey does? Does it take year round training to be good at it?
Soccer, if a kid wants to play at a high level.

yes, however you clearly are lacking understanding a major premise here.
Bismarck did not need to take a One OR the other approach to this as they did.
Both facilities would have far more benefited the city for a much longer period intonthe future.
Bismarck has no and never will have a proffessional team.
Past failures include the Wizards and soon to be defunct Bucks. Bobcats work kinda work at the VFW, Larks work at Municipal.
The civic center was and is fine for conventions, a new north facility would have complimented and enhanced, not subtracted.
As relates to HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY.
the Bismarck corruption connection forced the civic center expansion after MULTIPLE city wide votes resoundly trounced it,... claimed expansion could host hockey tournaments.
It can't.
Also floated rumors bobcats would move to the civc.
Also false.
They then tried to use a new central ice arena concept included in the 5south fiasco to appease some concerns, touting major intra city games be played there.
Also false
As it sits bismarck ice interests was forced to scamble for ANY ice options available which resulted in one sheet added or nothing.
Bismarck MUST have at least 2 more sheets now to accomodate the pushed additional boys program and girls program not to mention the possibility of jr gold teams or BAA teams to best serve the youth.
So all this did have an effect on ND high school hockey......
which still needs 2 divisions.
Any concrete plans/proposal (even just ideas) for a new ice facility?

Any idea of what the attendance was?

Same thing is happening in Fargo.
South's strong suits will go (have gone?) from football and hockey to BB and soccer with changing demographics. Davies (newest area, higher socioeconomic realm) will take over in football and hockey.
Expect the same in West Fargo as in Grand Forks with the Packers being Central and WF Sheyenne being Red River, Or South is WF and Davies is Sheyenne.
Bismarck (BHS, CHS, LHS) just doesn't seem to follow this pattern ... yet.
Bismarck has had more even growth. While the north end growth has been strongest, it is spread out east to west (northeast to northwest) pretty well. And due to the valuable river property, there are lots of well-to-do people living and north and south of town along the river. It also helps from a school perspective that the high schools have ended up in more of a squished triangle shape as opposed to a line (Fargo).

I propose that GF Central co-op with Sacred Heart and play as Sacred Heart-Central in Section 8AA.

$1,000 a trip with a $25,000 cap would be 25 trips. That is almost a trip every other week.

How many kickers are on the team now?

Well it looks like the OC is gone...

Do the cities of Williston and Dickinson still have their own newscasts for their two stations in each? If so, Bismarck doesn’t have the power yet to take over Minot, Williston and Dickinson.
KX has shifted almost everything for Minot down to Bismarck. Minot still gets local weather and sports though.

Bubba is on the radio now... admits he should have paid more attention to the offensive schemes in the past and says going forward will .. interesting
Unless this is a Brian Kelly like turnaround, its hard to have a lot of faith right now.

Minot would be the most likely to add another high school, but it won't happen within the next seven years. Watford City is going to struggle mightily in Class A, as their increased enrollment doesn't translate into greater participation numbers for sports. The population is just too transient, I seriously feel really bad for them.
Agreed on Watford City, definitely going to struggle. Minot should have had a second high school years ago. Lots of politics.

The new union will help so much with prospective students' first impressions of the school. I haven't been to many other student unions, but the ones I have been in or seen pictures of are much nicer than UND's current one.
NDSU's is nice and I always thought SDSU's was really nice.

Sanford had owned that land for years prior to building a hospital on it if i'm not mistaken.

I see Southern Illinois' head coach has already canned a bunch of assistants. Is that too much to ask for up here?

Weirdest game. Also, we are not good.

For myself and my family, the tickets are generally just too expensive.

We don't really have a choice. 2030 UND takes over. I don't know why everyone thinks the REA is going to go to hell once UND takes control. Zero eveidence that is going to happen.
UND has a history of letting all kinds of structures accumulate massive amounts of deferred maintenance costs on top of generally not updating things.
