SIOUX Recruits - 2008-09 Updates, Monitoring Their Junior League Play
USA Hockey replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
The HS Elite League will be at Shattuck and New Hope this weekend (which means you can see Mattson and Forbort) Here is the schedule, http://hselite.pucksystems.com/attachments...lite_Sched_.pdf -
You're absolutely correct. If Eidsness doesn't pan out, it could be a long year. I think this year's team will be a little more balanced. The problem the last two years has been not enough of it and to much focus on one line. This could make for a pretty good team by the end of the year.

I haven't had much time to think about the season before tonight, so here are my picks for the WCHA, 1. Colorado College 2. Denver 3. North Dakota 4. Minnesota 5. Minnesota State 6. Wisconsin 7. St. Cloud State 8. Minnesota Duluth 9. Michigan Tech 10. Alaska Anchorage

Although Malone is from New Brunswick, he did play for Cushing Academy Prep (Mass.) in the New England Prep League. -

Fink made a big jump last year. He only had one year of varsity high school experience. Aside from the injuries, I was informed that he wasn't given a very good chance in Waterloo last year. He was playing on a very good team with good depth (they went to the Clark Cup Championship last year). Hopefully this year he can improve. -

It's good to see Cichy off to a good start. I think he will have a very good season and improve his draft status for next summer. -

Once again, the Elite League is in New Hope again this weekend, so it's a good chance to see Mattson and Forbort. -

This weekend is the second weekend of the Elite League. Anyone who lives in the Twin Cities can watch both of our recruits that are playing in it. Along with Mattson who is playing in the NAHL showcase in Blaine, it's a good weekend to get out and see three of our future players. The Elite League will take place in New Hope, here is the schedule, http://hselite.pucksystems.com/attachments...lite_Sched_.pdf -
I posted the schedule in the committed recruits thread, but for prospective recruits the NTDP 17U team will also be at the NAHL showcase and there are still a good amount players on this team that are uncommitted, so it would be a good chance to watch some prospective players. Also, they have a future prospects tournament (which is similar to the Little Caesar's tournament here in January) taking place this week, here is the schedule for that, http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/league...p;seasonid=3207

For anyone living in the Twin Cities area, you can watch Nick Mattson this week as the NTDP 18U team will be playing in the NAHL showcase at the Blaine Superrink. Here is the schedule, http://www.nahlshowcase.com/schedule.cfm -

This weekend is start of the Upper Midwest High School Elite League. Danny Mattson and Derek Forbort are the two sioux recruits playing in it this year. Anyone who lives in the Duluth area can watch Forbort (who plays for Team North) this weekend, and anyone who lives near Verona Wisconsin can watch Mattson (who plays for Team Southwest). Here is the schedule, http://hselite.pucksystems.com/attachments...lite_Sched_.pdf -
I typically don't post on the football board, but I'll put my two cents in here. Football at UND will always have its following, but until there are some better quality opponents (Montana, Northern Iowa, etc.), I don't think that there will be a large spike in average attendance.

I don't think he is necessarily turning down a 6+ figure salary, keep in mind that most of these guys still play in the bus leagues. Not going to judge him to much, but I agree that he probably made a decision beyond hockey. There's nothing wrong with that, there's more to life than hockey (or athletics in general).

Seth Ambroz committed to the Gophers today.
-
Chicago Mission U16 defenseman Jordan Schmaltz committed to Wisconsin, UND was also in the running. On a side note, there was another recruit on campus today.

Good post. Even though this team brings back a good amount of seniors, there is really only two proven point scorers coming back (Duncan and Genoway). Despite the fact that they return 5 of 7 d-men, only one of them has been a proven offensive d-man. Personally I don't think we had enough depth up front last year, and they still lost their top scorer. If this team plans on getting far, there will need to be players both up front and on the blue line that will need to make up for the lost point production.

The Ivan Hlinka Tournament started yesterday in the Czech Republic, the U.S. and Canada played a warmup game yesterday with Canada winning 6-4, here is the roster for the U.S. team, http://www.usahockey.com/uploadedFiles/USA...ct%20Roster.doc Here is the roster for Team Canada, http://www.hockeycanada.ca/5/6/2/1/9/index1.shtml

What you said is pretty much what I heard.

I was thinking there was at least one topic on this before, but I was just to lazy to go back and look.

The USA Hockey Select 15 Festival starts on Saturday in St. Cloud. The coaches have recruited a good number of players out of this tournament. Here are the rosters, http://www.usahockey.com/Season/Tournament...DivisionID=1356
-
The USA Hockey world junior evaluation camp starts tommorow in Lake Placid. Kristo will be the only Sioux recruit, here is the roster in case you missed it before, http://www.usahockey.com/uploadedFiles/USA...oster-marks.pdf The nice thing is is that they will play some games against Sweeden and Finland starting on Tuesday (so now we have something to talk about in the worst month of the year).
-
We had a few on campus here last week, but other than that I haven't heard of anything. The coaches have been out at the Select Festivals so I would imagine they will bring a few players on campus here this summer.

As Brad posted on his blog, the training camp won't last long. The Red Wings training camp usually only lasts four days, and I don't imagine the Wild's is much different. It's not like NFL training camp which goes on for a month.
