  1. I was in the camp that thought und would beat BC. Nobody, and I mean nobody, saw that coming. If you did you are a flat out liar. I was alarmed at a number of observations yesterday: 1) BC manhandled und in physical play. Forever and a day und has been a physically brusing team and bc has been more "finesse" but yesterday bc pounded und into submission. 2) und basically gave up after the 1st period. I can't remember a time when und was blown out in the 1st and basically called it a day. I saw absolutely ZERO sustained effort in the 2nd and 3rd period. To me that was very very alarming. It was almost as if they thought well we made it here again and that is good enough. 3) Did Lamaroux think they were playing in the late game becasue he didn't show up. Spectacular season no doubt about that. Without him und is not a #1 seed and I doubt they even appear in the Frozen 4. 4) No sense of urgency or inspiration what so ever. like I said before, it seemed as if the boys were content just to be there. 5) Jerry York took the pedal off the gas. You could clearly see that. If bc wanted to they could have put up 10 on und. While I am not a fan of Hockey East, York earned a ton of respect in my book and handled it with a lot of class. 6) Hakstol and the coaching staff deserve some heat. Sorry to say he is quickly going down as und's version of Doug Woog. Do you fire him? Hell No (what nimrod actually thinks that?). However, the team was woefully unprepared yesterday. The coaching staff had 10 days to scout bc to find their tendencies, strengths, weaknessess etc etc etc. It was evident that bc was fully prepared to handle und but und was not preparred to handle BC. Sorry to say that goes on the coaching staff.
  2. I am kind of in your boat. Born and raised a Gopher fan so gopher fan first but via marriage somewhat of a sioux fan. disagree on the gophers making it to the Frozen 4. IF they beat bc then they will have to contend with Miami which is not going to be easy with their goalie. I would be a little more optimistic if the Gophers could AT LEAST muster some type of momentum on the pp. Teams should have no fear of taking a penalty becasue the pp is down right embarassing. and yes Norton is an idiot.
  3. Glad you had fun because that is what is all about, oh and watching great hockey. if und plays like they did on saturday afternoon the 8th nc banner will be raised. One more thing, if some sioux fans would put their blinding hatred aside for the Gophers and gopher fans I think you would realize we aren't that bad.
  4. Think it's not. How else could the Golden Gophers beat Mankato and St. Cloud?? I see no other logical conclusion but a conspiracy between McLeod, Shepherd, and Don Lucia to rig tonights game so the gophers will be in the Friday pm game. Hmmm makes me wonder what all 3 were doing at Jax Cafe today over lunch?? There is just no way that the Gophers could actually win a game on there own. Obviously they needed all the help from the Shepherds and McLeod. Plus mysteriously the Gophers are on "spring break" which just so happens to coincide with the week of the Final 5. Hmmmmm
  5. at least... good thing for the pro-gopher conspiracy to get them (gophers) into the friday night game.
  6. Boy what shock that the home town team announcers are homers. Woog looks like a sioux fan--well I did hear some good solid complaining of the officials.
  7. just a tough hard-nosed hockey player
  8. Bemidji yaaaa saaaayyyy. Man Daves's Pizza ROCKS. Hands down the best pizza in the leauge.
  9. The irony lies in the fact that sioux fans label the style of game Stu Bickel plays as a "hack" but label the exact style of game Joe Finley plays (or any other sioux defenseman) as a "physical". Basically Bickel plays identical to the norm of und defenseman but he is labeled a "hack" instead of "physical". You could call that ironic, hypocritical, or downright homerism. I simply choose the word irony.
  10. ohhhh the irony. I really need to dedicate more of my time reading here. It is just pure comedy.
  11. Completely agree. I understand loyalty and cheering for your favorite team but when this rivalry results in physical violence is totally uncalled for. Also, I can tolerate a little friendly exchange between fans but once the game is over shake hands and go buy a beer.
  12. My gawd do you have some serious issues to deal with. Anger management counseling is the first to come to mind. You are an absolute embarassment to all fighting sioux fans and I would bet that 99% of the sioux fans that post here would agree with me.
  13. Why do you guys even care what Dubay has to say when it comes to und? I guess I don't understand it. Really he is no more qualified than any of us.
  14. Classless as hell if you ax me Not a fan of comments like that and really no need for it. Don't think that typifies all gopher fans. Really this rivalry needs to go back to the good ol days. when the gophers played in Grand Forks John Mariucci used to go over to the und coaches house (can't remember his name) and those 2 would get all drunked up Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday night. Then when the sioux would play in minneapolis the und coach would go over to Mariucci's house and do the same. My father-in-law was telling me a story that back in the 60's he and his buddy drove from GF to minneapolis for the siox gopher weekend and attended a party saturday night after the game and the players were yucking it up and having a grand ol time. Some of the horror stories I have heard of sioux fans and gopher fans acting like complete d-bags really makes me cringe and somewhat embarassed. Really it is just a game people.
  15. Well folks should be a fun weekend of hockey. Not too optimistic on the Gophers chances but rivalry games you never know what to expect. I don't know how to read this series. December of 05 nobody gave MN a chance against the sioux in Grand Forks and the gophers ended up sweeping. Last year nobody gave the sioux any chance but they ended up sweeping the Gophers. This year nobody is giving the Gophers a chance so who knows. The Gophers certainly have had the same issues all year long and that will not change. For some odd reason the weakside winger fails to cover the man in the slot and that issue has been exposed all season. The bigger ice surface will be a huge advantage for the sioux. If und can establish a transition game then it is basically all over but the crying. This year MN is not the surgical tic-tac-toe passing and scoring attack of the past. They still generate plenty of offensive chances but just can not find the back of the net. At this level of hockey it is all about execution. The power-play is beyond embarassing. It is so bad I often laugh at the ineptitube Hell sometimes they don't even get a shot on net. So even if the refs are on the gopher payroll it won't matter The series in december I thought the gophers were the better team but und has seemed to find its game since that series. The gophers come into this series as the far more desperate team. Mn to a certain extent still controls their own destiny for home ice in the wcha playoffs. MN is on the outside looking as far as ncaa tourney bids are concerned. If und sweeps then essentially the Gophers season is over unless by the miracle of lord they happen to win the Final 5(very doubtful). Und is basically jockeying for ncaa positioning. I don't know. Always a fun weekend of hockey when these teams square off.
  16. absolutely awful to hear stories like that. Hopefully, it is a treatable form and this young man can go on and live a fruitful life. I am a parent of 5 and would shutter to think if I lost one of my children.
  17. So the anti-und conspiracy has a new member in the Rocky Mountain News Move over ncaa, wcha, greg shepherd and bruce McLeod you have company
  18. Finally someone that gets it.
  19. I heard of this about 1 hour ago. Sure enough had to head over here and watch the fireworks. 12 pages so far of immature juvenile bickering over what: A MEASLY DISORDERLY CONDUCT CHARGE. My god people get off your damn soapbox. TJ if you happen to read this let me give you a bit of advice from a Gopher fan: Take this criticism from these so called "fans" and shove it right back up there @$$.
  20. I will let the secret out if you inform everyone on here about our romantic weekend getaway big boy
  21. Couple observations from last weekend: 1) Most surprising to me was that und played with no fire, heart, or passion all weeekend. That was very alarming especially against the Gophers. Seemed as if they didn't care if they won or lost. Gophers won most of the battles for loose pucks, outhustled und, and for the most part appeared hungrier both nights. 2) Lamaroux is a damn good goalie. From what I have been told by the outlaws, Lamaroux has "stole" a few games for und because the defensemen in front of him had played awful. 3) Speaking of defensemen, I certainly thought with 3 experienced d-men und would shut down most of their opponents. Chorney looked lost, Finley while a big bruiser is still a liablity with the puck. Robbie Bina looked like und best d-man last weekend--wish the best of luck to Robbie because that is a hell of a story. 4) Gophers did a great job handling und's forecheck. Gophers had quick precise passing which allowed them to break out and create the odd-man rushes. 5) Minnesota played a 50 minute game on Friday and a 55 minute game on Saturday which is encouraging. Gophers have folded faster than a lawn chair in the 3rd periods this year. So to see a solid performance Saturday going into the break is certainly a positive. Carman and Bostrom will be back in a couple of weeks which will be needed with the 2nd half and a lot tougher schedule. 6) This years und team is a head-scratcher. On paper they should be steamrolling through the competition but alas it is another stuggle the 1st half of the season. I think both und and the UofM will heat up in the 2nd half. Und has a good foundation in a solid goaltender. I get the sense that if the players make a mistake then Lamaroux will make a save. Can't really say that for the Gophers. Also, the experienced d-men will eventually play like experienced d-men. Und offense will come around as well. Things will be fine.
  22. Woog is a great commentator. He loves college hockey. Played for the Gophers under John Mariucci and also coached so naturally he will wear maroon & gold goggles some of the time. However, I think he is very fair and honest in his opionion not only of the Gophers but also of the competition. There have been plenty of times where Woog has been very complimentary of the oppositions play. He tells it like it is and gives credit where credit is due. For that I compliment Wooger. I don't want to listen to a gopher lovefest like John Madden to Brett Favre. Woog's great. Mazzoccco flat out sucks. I don't know how even got the damn job. He must have some nasty pictures of someone. Frank "the Rug" Mazzocco is half in the bag the entire game and just utters nonsense. Actually it is quite painful to listen to .
  23. Good point. I think the key difference from the 2005 series to this series is the 2005 team had a dominate line in Potulny, Irmen, and Kessel. This years team does not have a dominant line. Hell this years team could not even score in a whore-house Also, 2005 team had upper-classmen blueliners who did not turn the puck over and also could jump up into the rush. This year's blueliners have only 1 guy even remotely capable of that and that is Cade Fairchild. Also, wasn't und's 05-06 team made up of mostly freshmen--Oshie, Toews, Duncan,Lee etc etc etc?? Like I said, I would be estatic with a sweep, pleasantly surprised by a split but really looking for und to break out the brooms on Saturday night.
