  1. A buddy of mine said Nick is waiting for us to decide the best four-year player question before he releases his decision. Says he wants our full attention.
  2. That's a very legitimate point. Gaudy numbers from an earlier era do not make the whole case, just as Nattys don't--at least on this particular question. I saw a lot of Greg J and not much of Taylor, so I really cannot compare them very well. Without streaming coverage in those days, if you lived away you just didn't see the guys as much. But I can say that Johnson was a dynamic force on the ice as a freshman--teams had to focus on him from day one. Caggiula had a great career at UND, and we may very well not have won # 8 without him, but I just don't think you can compare the player he was as a freshman and sophomore with what Johnson was. This is all for S & G, of course. They are both Sioux, both had fine character, and both gave us fans more than we could have asked for. As well as the others being discussed here.
  3. Good work, UNDBIZ. I took a class of some sort from Poochigan and didn't remember.
  4. Not Pooch. Wasn't he in Gamble? I'm talkng about a philosphy professor.
  5. Best player, not best team, so natties are not the measure. Greg Johnson. His statistics speak for themselves, and he was exciting to watch from the first time he hit the ice as a freshman.
  6. Boy that sounds familiar--just can't say. He wore thick glasses and always seemed amused. He was definitely not an early departure.
  7. I'm sticking with Greg Johnson as best 4-year player.
  8. burd is lame at the simplest things.
  9. Great memories, ira. Bob Lewis was a good man and a fine professor, and Tweeton was delightful. I cannot remember the name of the silver haired, slightly nutty, but brilliant philosophy professor who had a constant smile on his face.
  10. Handsome/beautiful, yet not the least bit vain. Thoughtful, yet spontaneous. Intelligent, yet not arrogant. Funny. Generous. Proud, in a humble sort of way. They are the most interesting fans in the world.
  11. It's that organic chem requirement.
  12. And I would bet very few hockey players who play some of their high school years away from home bag a lot of AP exams in high school that transfer into credits at some colleges. I suspect UND honors AP credits with a 4 or 5 on the test.
  13. How well the new D corps performs is key next season, of course, but it will also be interesting to see what Wilke and Gersich bring next year. If Nick stays, expectations will be shy high for the top line (if Berry keeps them together), but it's almost unfair to expect those three to have the same chemistry CBS had, even with Jost's top-end talent. And CBS was so good at the possession game partly due to who was on the blue line. Knowing when to pinch is partly instinct, and Stecher and LaDue seemed to have that, Stecher particularly.
  14. If we added Bottineau, they would get to play in the Lumberdome twice a year for some old time hockey.
  15. Excellent to hear he already has his degree. Go for it, Luke.
  16. Gotta pull for Gornall in the mix somewhere.
  17. Congratulations to Luke, though. He had many doubters among Sioux fans, including me at times, but he proved his significant worth without lashing out at anyone, as far as I know. Hopefully he will prove his doubters wrong at the next level as well. Go get 'em Luke. (but maybe in a way that keeps you out of the box)
  18. So, a rose, by any other name, would smell as sweet?
  19. I'm glad you were upset for that reason. When I first read your response I thought you were probably anti-GLBT. I certainly am anything but, but I thought it best be left alone, since this is a hockey discussion and may not be the place for discussion of social issues, at least to the extent others did not ask for it.
  20. I recall sitting above the partially completed bowl of the first Ralph with Larry Drader, who played for the Sioux, watching the work being done and visualizing what it would be like when complete. We were accustomed to the old barn and thought this new rink would never be outdated.
  21. Thank you, stoney.
  22. Forgive my laziness, but what was the deal with the mystery surrounding Tim Hennessey late last week? Did he make a change of some kind? Did he come out? OK . . . smiley. Not that there is anything wrong with . . . .
  23. This program has always given us elite level players, but it always gives us less heralded "gamers" we could champion too, and sometimes they are the most loved players.
  24. And to be clear (and serious), I liked what I saw of Gornall. Pulling for him this year.
  25. I try. I really do.
