Get there plenty early, Sprig, you'll want the time...
-
I showed up 20-25 minutes prior but I think I went in a back entrance and saw nothing. Didn't know anything about it until some Duluth fans who sat by me mentioned it on Sat night. However they weren't at the game on Fri so must have seen it in the paper as well.

yeah jk, I probably do bore people. But I love Sioux hockey and I love seeing and talking Sioux hockey too. I like to hear from others who see the games and so I like to fill in when I can. This is SOOO much better than the dark years. Early 90's when I lived here in the cities and there was no coverage of the Sioux, relatively no contact with other people knowledgeable about the program, and no internet to stay in touch. Maybe it was a good thing

Thanks Speez. Little guy didn't bring home anything that would have been a problem, though I wonder had he been with me on Sat when the UMD fans were yelling at me that the Sioux suck how he would have responded. That would have needed a bit of explaining. Little guy enjoyed himself for about half the game Fri and then got really bored. We unfortunately had a railing in the way. I moved us around in open seats for first period (kept getting kicked out. Dog fans show up "whenever" I guess) so he could see better but ran out of options in the second. So I took him back to the hotel. He learned about icing and offsides but said he "wanted to learn more moves". I think he was looking for some clues to beating me in basement hockey.

This team is capable of playing well enough right now to beat anyone. They are also capable of laying an egg against anyone. That said, Duluth is playing very well. The Sioux wore them down on Sat and outplayed them at the end to take the game. Duluth has beat a lot of very good teams lately. I hoped for a sweep but it didn't happen. As for Denver, it is beyond reason to think the team will sweep. There has been little indication the team can sustain that caliber of play long enough to do so. But I am eternally optimistic, and as has been pointed out before, they did it to us in 1997. But I don't see more than 2 being realistic. jimdahl's stats scare me. But I think 2 points is possible. However, they are meaningless points. We need 3 minimum this weekend.

Where people get confused is that they think that Blais drops guys from the team because he can find someone better. That I don't buy. I will agree that I did not like to see Oleary, Hasbargen, etc cut this year. However, had we not ended up so short handed last year with injuries, those guys probably would not have made the team then. And I believe they were mostly walk-ons? But you are all right. Blais talks about how players can develop if they come to UND and that is an advantage over other programs who expect you to be good all the time. jk gave several great examples of this. Skarp is another. I believe when guys get cut is because they couldn't make the team from the start, or else they cut themselves. In the real world, when I have to fire someone, I don't fire them, they fire themselves. They know what is expected of them. If they don't meet it, they are warned and told what they need to do to remain a member of the "team". If they don't choose to do those things, I hire someone else. I think it is a pretty apt analogy. I would like to know what Blais comments are about how the team was playing in the second period of Sat. game. I was not proud of our team then. The big fight didn't bother me, but the guys were showing a season of frustration and I have seen enough of Canady swinging his stick to last a 4 year career. And Lundbohm did it too. the team was generally playing cheap.

I did not like the look of our team in the 2nd period on Sat.
-
Sorry Goon. I missed the sarcasm.

What gives you more confidence? Wins over Canisius and Niagra, or Michigan, Michigan State? I say schedule the big boys to the extent you can. If the team is struggling they'll learn by playing the best. You'll gain the most confidence by beating the good teams, if you are a good enough team.

I'm morally opposed to any connection between Saved By the Bell and any Sioux player, coach, or team representative.
-
jk, very astute observation about finishing 6th and 7th. yowch! I would say that now sweeping should be considered disappointing. Not because Duluth should be a cakewalk, but in terms of the need for points in the standings. And we are capable of playing well enough to beat most teams.

Man am I old. I didn't even know there was a band named Zach Attack. There was a blurb in the trib a few days ago about Andy Murray's car accident. Sounded like it could have been a really bad deal, but he'll be ok. Brady still managed to get chosen on the all-tournament team with Zach, though. What a great hockey deal we have at UND....Still enjoying this year and already can't wait for next!

I know what sucks. Outshooting a team 42-9 and losing 3-2 in OT. Oh, you hate to be the goalie then.......

I noticed Faul winning face-offs against the goofs too.

There is an article in this weeks Dakota Student online regarding some letters sent to a couple of professors who are against the Sioux nickname. http://www.UND.nodak.edu/org/ds/#sports I think what they received is terrible. However, I think it is misleading for Ganje to make this statement I don't think the nickname caused this person to act this way. But this ignorant person acted this way because he doesn't want the name to be changed. To try and blame the name for this behavior turns the name into a mechanism for evil, if you will. If you make that case, no wonder American Indians want it changed. But I feel this is the big lie in this debate. The nickname is not causing people to act this way.

Too bad for Leinweber to get injured. Seems to me he is picking up his game. I am no longer afraid to see him in the game as I have been at times in the past. I still remember when he was a frosh and paired with Roche down at Mariucci I thought he was one of our better D men on the ice that night. But that was early in the year and O'Connell had really picked up his game. Commie was real good that year too. I hope he's not out too long. Did he play for Schneekloth this weekend or did Schnee play? I would also like to see Faul getting more time. I thought he played well in the gopher game. He won some faceoffs, was aggressive, etc. Seemed more comfy on the ice than he did in the Sat AA game that I saw him in.

That is an unfortunate situation. You can really feel for someone having to endure that kind of taunting, but I really wonder if he is right about it being the fault of mascots like the Redskins or the Indians. I'm not a fan of the Redskins, frankly. But I'm not sure that lots of other names like Seminoles, or Sioux, etc really contribute to this kind of behavior. Ignorant people behave in this manner. The nickname may provide a target for ignorant people, but that doesn't make the nickname bad. Their behavior makes the ignorant people bad. Rather than remove a nickname which will do nothing but hide the problem that ignorant people have I suggest it is much better to deal with the ignorant. Changing the nickname is an easy and superficial attempt to solve the problem. And it might make some feel like progress is being made when only it hides the real problem even further. We need to deal with the problem. UND needs to step up even further to improve education and awareness of Native American culture. I think in this way they will help make this a positive overall, and it would be the best way to combat those who say this is detrimental to the Sioux people.

Taking my 7 year old to his first Sioux game at the DECC on Friday night. Family is making it a weekend vacation. Hope to see a Sioux win. Duluth is playing like the team no one wants to play in the play-offs right now. Good job, Sandelin. But how about your boys taking a weekend off this coming one? We could use a sweep bad. Duluth is playing tough. Seems they have some confidence and are finding some offense. The Sioux are playing better hockey of late as well, but still not dominant. Regardless of the 12-2 whipping they put on a Tech team that didn't show on Friday, Tech made it awfully close on Sat to think we are that much better. I think it will be quite a challenge for the Sioux to win 2 this weekend. But they need em. Anybody else heading to Duluth? What can I expect from their fans?

I couldn't get the game on the net and the news on USCHO was sparse. Who was in net the first 2 periods and why did Siembida come in for the 3rd?? I would have preferred a bit more comfortable win. Did the boys get a bit lacksadaisical or did tech really play well tonite??? What did Blais have to say after the game? Nice to sweep a pair. Next weekend will be a tough weekend of hockey as I believe Duluth is playing pretty well themselves right now and there will be no easy wins.

I'm not aware of anyplace regular. Champps in Richfield put the GLI championship game on for me, but I assumed that is because Mi State was in the game. Maybe I will have to try for a regular game.

Good interview with Andy Kollar after the game tonite. You can really root for Andy after hearing an interview like that. He was very honest about his performance, and his struggles. Tim mentioned the nice ovation Andy got when he was introduced. He said "The crowd like you Andy". Andy says "I don't know why, I keep letting 40-50 footers through my legs". Brutal honesty. Sounds like Andy admitted to struggling again tonite on a shot. Says he is struggling in this rink.

WAY TO GO SIOUX! Congratulations to Sioux players like Massen, Bochenski, McMahon, Canady, Spiewak that scored goals tonite. Especially to Massen for a HAT TRICK!!!! Hopefully this will give the boys some confidence. Now we have to make sure we don't come into tomorrow's game overconfident and lazy. Good job Andy Kollar. I've said all along that good things will happen if Blais puts Andy in nets. Nice to see CC take one at MN. Maybe they can sweep tomorrow night.

Zach Attach is much better. But let's not break it out too quick and jinx the kid. I would like to see Masson and Bochenski (especially) go to a power skating school. Too bad the instructor from Roseau (I forget her name) tragically passed away. These kids could use her instruction. I think Bayda said he went to a place in Fargo last year. If Bo could improve that skating (and why can't he) he might find less need to use the stick. I'm not ready to give up on this year yet. But I am curious to know what Genoway will bring to the table. He is very young, and he is here vs. spending a year in juniors. So one wonders if he is pretty good. (maybe he had to come so he could sit his year out and get it over with)

I remember you and Michael Jackson singing that duet back in the late 80's....."I'm a lova, not a fighta"! Yes, enough with Zod. I would like to see Notermann hit a few posts. Most of the time he is hitting wide of the net. Don't get me wrong, I'm not cranking on him. But he would have a few more goals if he would make the goalie make a save. good things happen....Just seems so many times it goes wide. Good things are going to happen this weekend. I felt this way last week too, so it MUST happen this week!
