  1. Careful, or Hakstol will say he hopes MN will win out the rest of the way again.

    "sieve"

I've got no problem with it when you consider MN's AD just rejected scheduling THE FIGHTING SIOUX for anything but hockey. I say go sieve Maturi too, Buning!
  3. Close. Regular Season stats for 2004-05: 2nd Kozek 48-49-97 3rd Duncan 48-43-91 11th Watkins 36-38-74 In 2003-04 those points would have put those guys in: Kozek 5th Duncan 7th Watkins 28th! (Travis Zajac was 2nd this year with 112) In 2005-06 those points would have put those guys in: Kozek 3rd Duncan 4th Watkins 16th (Darcy Zajac was 7th with 80 points this year) In 2006-07 their P/G would project to: Kozek/Duncan 7th-11th Watkins 29th! FWIW
  4. Watkins was not at the same level as Duncan and Kozek, though.
  5. Oops, I meant how "good could" the DOT line be if he started feeling confident.
  6. I watched that video and while I was surprised to see those comments in print I realized that they came up in the interview because someone asked him specifically what he thought about that. I thought it was a reasonable response from the opposing coach.
  7. Saturday's game, correct? The gophers only scored in the 1st period. I'll try and check it out tonite.
  8. Mankato always seems to play very hard, and hard working teams give themselves a chance. Still, I expect the Sioux to take 2 tough fought games. Hopefully the Sioux won't lose what they've learned the last few weeks with the week off. This is my Grand Forks weekend, so I'm looking forward to good performances.
  9. Watching the tape of the game I was surprised at how loud the Sioux crowd was. It almost sounded like a home crowd. First year in many that I wasn't present for at least one game at Mariucci. Maybe it's me?
  10. Woog said that Toews told him he's still not feeling totally confident. How could could the DOT line be if Toews start to feel good.
  11. See this Coaches Show summary: Nice set-up, Coach.
  12. I think that was a different time. Speaking of scrums in the net, the time Chorney went after the player in the net was interesting. I was trying to figure out what set Chorney off like that. On replay, however, I noticed a couple of things and circumstantially connected them with something Lammy said during the AA series. IIRC Lammy was ticked the defense didn't clear out the AA players and they were jabbing their sticks into his gut until the puck came loose and they scored (the tying goal?). Earlier in the game last night the gophers rushed the net and there were a couple guys with their sticks in Lammy's gut again. The second guy in was giving the shots AFTER the whistle sounded The second time this happened, Chorney took his guy into the net and smacked him around a bit. On that play the original gopher player came in and made a shot, and tried to poke at the puck. Gordon? followed up the play and his first whack with the stick was against Lammy's leg pad, the second jab was up in his gut. Chorney immediately put him down. The other situation I found interesting was when Miller crossed checked Carmen up high in the neck after he took a shot and the whistle blew. It's not the kind of thing I condone, for sure. This was interesting, though, in that Carmen drew a crowd of angry Sioux, Porter and Genoway who pushed and jawed at him. I watched that play from earlier in the shift and it looks like Carmen went to hit a Sioux player off camera and after that you lose him until he comes in and takes the shot on goal. Would be an interesting one to have seen.
  13. The Sioux deserved more penalty calls than the gophers last night, but I have to admit to shaking my head about the Porter hooking on Okposo and the penalty on the Sioux for allowing a gopher player to fall over. There was another interference call that was a dive, not a penalty, but sometimes those things are tough to catch at full speed. Still, last night was a little tough to stomach.
  14. I've got the game on tape and will watch it. I've watched it twice and have seen nothing like this other than 1 instance where the puck did fall under Lammy but didn't cross the line. Lammy fell back on the puck and was pushed into the net but he then move his leg back out. I didn't see any clue exactly where the puck was or ended up. Therefore no goal call could be made as it was under him.
  15. Had a party to go to so taped the game and watched it when I got home. Had no idea what the result was so lived and died with every penalty call. Almost died. Lammy is the player of the game in my mind. He made some very big and timely saves tonite. I wish I had a bowing smiley for right here. Bina is something else, and it's not because of his legendary (will be) goal. He was a physical animal tonite, smashing gophers all over the ice, and he's got a broken neck and too few inches on his body. Wow. DOT line is becoming dominant. Duncan is becoming my favorite Sioux, because he's such a good sniper, and a great interview. Had to shake my head at a few of those penalty calls tonite, namely Porter's great defensive effort to break up the breakaway, and the gopher who fell over on his own. Not to mention the non-call when Jones' stick was being held on the PK, in plain sight, and he couldn't wrest it free. I might have to apologize to The Whistler. Never saw this weekend coming. Wow.
  16. I've never really had trouble with the Gopher fans at Mariucci either.
  17. I also watched the YouTube video of the so-called Fischer "dive" from last week and it looked a lot to me like O'Brien shifted his shoulder into Fischer. Fischer probably embellished, a skill quickly utilized by a gopher or 2 last night, but it looked like in fact O'Brien did try to and successfully hit Fischer.
  18. I watched it on tape this morning and I think Kaip tried to give him an elbow as he went over the top.
  19. You admitted that the two teams with the larges discrepancy were teams that normally commit a fair number of penalties anyway. That leaves Michigan as unexplained but maybe that just an exception. Overall, a difference of 24 is only about 1.5 per game on average. We fans complain about Toews and Oshie getting mugged, clutched and grabbed, and then we complain when the games are called too tight. Woog made a good point last night when LaPanta was relating a conversation Hakstol had with Campion essentially saying he'd rather not have every ticky tacky call made. Well, there is some validity to that, but like Woog said, you get to the NCAA tournament and they call the games really tight and then you are complaining that the officiating is much tighter than it was during the season. I've watched the game almost 3 times now, and most of the calls I cannot argue with. I do think Bostrom dived on one call. You could maybe argue a couple of calls but mostly it looked ok to me. My 3rd time watching Kaip's penalty it does look like he tried to give Briggs an elbow as he goes over him. Hopefully tonite the Sioux won't be in that position quite so much. After trying to refute your argument so far, I will say this. After reading your post and seeing the information you put forth, you have swayed me a little bit in your direction, more than I would have expected when I read the thread title. That said, we have to be very careful what we ask for. If we want our star players left alone, we have to put up with a lot more penalties being called, and many of them will be on our team. We have to live with that until the teams adjust.
  20. I was surprised at the lack of chippiness we usually see between these two teams. You've come up with one reasonable explanation.
  21. I noticed that on TV last night. Surprising considering the rivalry.
