  1. I believe Womens Hockey made it in 11-12 and 12-13. First round exits at the hands of WCHA nemesis who-shall-not-be-named. I think of it as a sport where UND has the possibility of winning national championships (and that is a short list of teams), so I would be in the camp of evaluating the effectiveness of coaching and development of womens hockey team. And I also agree wholeheartedly with the desire to focus more resources toward sports where revenue generation is a great possibility - mens basketball revenues are scandalously low. And WBB and VB should be able to generate more revenue. On my list of revenue generating questions is getting a basketball arena with modern luxury suites, and overall larger capacity. (Yes I miss the days where basketball could cram 5000+ into Hyslop.)
  2. If by that you mean, we should keep sports that have reasonable probability of making the national tournament (or individual placements for individual sports), I agree.
  3. Another insightful tweet from Schlossman. Brad E. Schlossman ‏@SchlossmanGF 2h2 hours ago Brad E. Schlossman Retweeted Jason McLean Nothing bad was said. I don't think this committee wields any power. I think it is just an unnecessary show at the expense of others. ======================= Agree with all of that except the word "unnecessary". Its a way for the faculty to feel they had involvement, and at the end of the day faculty is where a lot of power resides. So Kennedy had to follow tradition, genuflect to the faculty ... and we shall see soon how decisions get made at UND during his tenure.
  4. Yeah, ever since my first games out East (1980 in Providence) where the local paper accused UND of "an extraordinary amount of elbows and stickwork", I've certainly agreed with that. Point well taken. I will note that last night, the NCHC refs handed PP's out evenly, 26-27. The HEA games (7) were 56-79, pretty heavily skewed to favor the US. Yes, that's over 11 PP's on average to US teams with many of them majors awarded to HEA teams that were trailing. So unless the western Canadian teams are less penalty prone, than their eastern brethren, I find myself wondering about eastern US college refereeing standards. Without seeing how the games were actually played, I can't say its unfair.
  5. Since I love numbers, and and have nothing better to do during the intermission for UMD vs Michigan Tech, here are some facts from last night: Out East, 12 games, 556 PIM on the Canadians vs 338 PIM on the US colleges. 33 Majors & Misconducts on the Canadians vs 16 on the US collegians. Out West, 7 games. PIM: 202 vs 189. 13 Majors/Misconducts on the Canadians vs 9 on the US collegians. Also, out East, the Americans were 7 wins, 4 losses, 1 tie. Out West, the US was 6-1. So, is it the Hockey East refs saving the guys who pay their salaries by being punitive on the Canadians? Or is it because US college hockey is drifting further away from the physical boys-will-be-boys that the Canadians play?
  6. Nice one timer by Gornall
  7. In Twin Cities and NCHC TV feed working normally.
  8. I hit refresh on NCHC.TV and the midco pregame comes up.
  9. USA with some terrific clutch golf on the back nine Saturday afternoon. If there was one guy I'd like to go to a hockey game with, its Patrick Reed. GO USA!
  10. Interesting that Manitoba has played 6 games already: Swept Jamestown, Lost to Calgary, Beat Saskatchewan, Swept Regina. Certainly a lot of game experience already for the opponent. Prediction: UND 4, Manitoba 2.

  12. Add ice hockey to the Summer Olympic Games...
  13. A very predictable stat line from the Russia-Canada game. Ovechkin 0 goals 0 assists -1. Shadowed most of the night by Toews' line (with Perry and Couture). Other Canadian guys will get the headlines tonight, but when Jonny is so consistent at shutdown mode that's really valuable in this kind of setting.

  20. Jon Casey, Dixon Ward, Dave Donnelly, and (back from my days in school) Roseau's Earl Anderson.
  21. I didn't see anyone who played a decent game for USA. It looked like they were playing an NHL all star game; half-speed no-hits; not even a stick check. Time for USA Hockey to start up a conversation with USA Basketball about how to re-engineer everything - they've done a great job with NBA players. Its time to bring some pride back into playing ice hockey for United States of America.
  22. And ... even two wins doesn't guarantee advancing. Tough spot to be in.
  23. As long as we're not being spurious here, I'll note that the Crossroads Mall is a gun free zone. I am damn glad the off duty officer stuck with his gun. If he faces charges for it, I'll be first in line to pay defense costs. ============================ PS: An older article discussing the cruelty of gun free zones. People are dying because of them: http://www.nationalreview.com/article/370014/cruelty-gun-free-zones-john-r-lott-jr
