  1. That was a key face-off but I don't necessarily agree. The key face-off Toews didn't win is the one he never got a chance to win. If you all recall, at about the 7:19 mark of the third period, there was a TV timeout with the faceoff coming in the BC end. Hakstol sends out the 3rd line even though the DOT line had gotten a nice rest. This proved to be the bench's biggest mistake of the year. In a 3-3 game, shortly after a momentum changing shorthanded goal by Oshie and with minutes left in the game, you have to send that top line out on the penalty kill. BC wins the face-off, Motherwell starts the rush up ice and we lose the game on an odd-man rush that started 170 feet from our net and that little prick Gerbe buries it. I cannot fault the players for this game-changing event.

Bad memory - this was BC goal 3 at the 7 minute mark. BC goal 4 came after the Oshie shortie and the Finley "elbow." We had a FO in our zone at the top of the circle with just a few seconds left to kill on Porters penalty - we lost the draw and positioning and BC scored to make it 4-3.

  2. The call against Finley was questionable indeed.

However, some the blame should go to Finley for being out of position when the hit was made. You can see it for yourself on the You Tube clip. We are on the PK and a BC forward gains the zone on the far side, being checked by a Sioux forward. The play continues to the corner with the Sioux forward still engaged with the BC player (remember we are killing a penalty at this time). Instead of holding his ground, Finley decides to join the play, which itself is a risky play at that point - creating essentially a 4 x 2 out numbered situation in our own zone.

Again, I did not like the call but Finley made multiple mistakes on this play, his penalty being just one of them.

  3. Re: Finley's last penalty -

You can dispute the call - IMO he probably shouldn't have been near the guy in the first place - if you look at the replay he was checking a BC player in the corner that was already covered while we were killing a penalty - there was no reason to double up on the puck in that situation. If he plays his position, he doesn't make that check and get the penalty.

  4. In my opinion, there are A LOT of empty seats...maybe it's still filling in, and it will prolly be a lot more full for UND/BC, but still...

Is today a one ticket event - like the Final Four BB semis?

  5. I was watching the NCAA title game from 1987 last night and it has become apparent to me that this year is Eerily simular to 1987.

Both years UND has a Hobey Baker Candidate Duncan in 2007 Hrkac in 19876ae1afc9136bc78a63a0fd3296797a25.200.jpg. MSU is in the Frozen Four. UND has an explosive line in 1987, in 2007 UND has another explosive line.

One difference is that the Sioux were a dominant team from start to finish - they only lost 8 overall, 4 WCHA reg season/undefeated at home vs WCHA.

Individual stats were off the charts. 3 first team All Am. (Hrkac, Joyce, Kidd - Belfour 2nd team)

  6. Well, actually Walter Johnson / Cy Young were said to have extremely high velocity on their pitches. Older historians say upper 90's would be a good estimate. Cy was before Ruth's time, and Johnson was shutting it down while Babe was still pitching.

You can also make arguements that the Wcha was very strong in those years, look at the NHL all stars that played college hockey in the 80's era. Brett Hull (UMD), Ed Belfour (UND), John Casey (UND), Chris Chelios (WISC), Neal Broten (Minn). These are only a few that I could think of off the top of my head.

Dave Christian and Mike Ramsey would be good additions to the list as well - they both played over 1000 games in the NHL.

  7. I was watching the game.

The biggest blown call was a goal that Derrick was overruled by his dad up in the replay booth.

A BC player dove for the puck and crashed into the goalie. The first save was made. The second shot went off of a crossbar and the third went in the net.

Derrick Sheppard was emphatic that that was a goal. He was overruled for two obvious reasons. The net was pushed off (just barely but obvious from the press box camera.) and the BC player had pushed the goalie into the back of the net.

It was a terrible call thankfully there was a replay.

Watching the game pissed me off even though I wasn't that much into the game.

I was just thinking about Bruce McCloud's claim that the WCHA was the best officiated. It sure as heck wasn't in evidence this weekend. Sheppard was the only one I saw, twice, and he was his usual worthless self.

I believe HE officials worked the games in Denver - I would take them over WCHA boys any day.

  8. man, looked like dubay was gona cry during postgame, paybacks a biatchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh buddy

Actually I thought he did a nice job breaking down the game, no excuses, Sioux were better team 2nd half of the game and OT. No cheerleading.

It would have been nice to hear from the Sioux, at least some comments from the press conference.

Woog was pretty good, as good as Doug could be, after the game, giving props to Porter.

  9. If the live signal does not show up on FTA on Saturday, I am with you on trying to plug our ears until the tape delay. See you at the Bloomington Sensors.

If cable companies around the country will be able to access the game live via sat, shouldn't a sportsbar be able to do the same thing?

  10. you can go in and out to go drink at your car as they wont be selling alcohol at the games i believe  having 1 ticket for 2 games prevents scalping the game you dont want to go to, the NC$$ is a joke all around...if your team played the early game it would work to sell the later game as the person buying could just walk back in unless they stamp your hand..now we are getting way to crazy with this talk...either way SCREW THE NCAA

I believe the NCAA BBall regionals are 2 games/1 ticket.

  11. I know this is pretty obscure but does anyone know if the rink at the Pepsi Center will be configured "NCAA/room behind the net" style vs. "NHL/smaller neutral zone-less room behind the net?

I know it is subtle but it could effect play, especially power plays - at the X/F5, there was more room for the D to move on the PP - it also could effect how teams cycle/forecheck.

  12. Siouxnami can address this, but Wisconsin had an excellent recruiting year with Kyle Turris (a Jonathan Toews type player) and the entire line from Shattuck, including Brady Murray's little brother. The style may be boring, but Wisconsin has a long history of success and sending players to the pros, and Madison is a great town with a beautiful campus. As much as I would like every kid to come to UND, Wisconsin is a top program and is going to win some recruiting battles with Minnesota, UND, Michigan, Denver, BC and the other top programs.

    McDonagh isn't bad either.

  13. thats fine. If its on the FSSN I predict it will be shown live. I mean, why would the FSSN pay money to tape delay it when at 10:00 that nite you can watch it on FSN North

This is a post from USCHO TV thread -

It looks like some cable companies around the country are showing the UND/Mich game live - which means they are getting a live feed from ESPNU/NCAA.

Shouldn't a bar be able to pick up the same feed?
