  1. i see this from followthepuck.com

Edina: 9:01, Joe Gleason 1 (Derrick Caschetta)

not worried about it, just showing what i see. gleason is all that matters anyways! would love to see a edina-roseau finals hopefully

Would be a tough ticket for sure!

Gleason is a great player and is a UND recruit, but ...

he plays for Edina ... can you really root for Edina?

Rooting for Edina would be like rooting for -- the Gophers !?!?

  2. With one burden lifted, Nick rid himself of another just days after coming back from Europe. In mid-November, he committed to North Dakota. Although Nick had felt all along that Grand Forks would be the right place, he had vacillated for months. He had dreaded telling the coaches at Minnesota and Wisconsin -- which also had offered him full scholarships -- that he was turning them down.

But he had just come through the most trying period of his young life, and he now felt confident enough to confirm his choice. He called the coaches. He called his parents.

As Nick hung the Fighting Sioux banner over his bed, he could see his future beginning to take shape.

I hear buzz in the TC that UND > UMTC among top recruits ... some former Gophers are not helping the cause either.

  3. Not true. Chris Chelios only played the 1981/1982 and 1982/1983 seasons with Wisconsin.

    82/83... ouch.

We had the Badgers at home in the league playoffs - we had the lead in the 3rd period of game 2 in the total goal series - we ended up losing in multi ot and ended up not going to the NCAA's. The Badgers ended up winning it all - in Grand Forks!!!

  4. if its at the kohl center i doubt that big place wont be full at all if sconnie isnt there. doesnt mean there wont be tons of sioux fans but nothing close to filling it

What was the attendance at the Pepsi Center last year for Sioux/Gophers regional final - if I remember attendance was pretty good.

  5. Man i think our ND high school announcers a 10times better then minnesotas. I actually kinda miss lapanta and gorg doin the high school games.

Cut Clay Matvick some slack - he did play-by-play for the NCAA West regional last year, and he picked the Sioux to win it all. He's no Muzzsucko.

  6. 3 years seems to be the norm for top d men for the sioux heading to the pros. greene, commdore, smaby ect....

he will be gone with a few others as we know

With the current CBA rule about "opting-out" of your draft rights if you stay 4 years, it is in the NHL team's best interest to get drafted players with any potential signed after their Jr. year.

I wonder if Kozek is a flight risk after his great 2nd half.

  7. Genoway could be a tough loss, he's a fine hockey player. I honestly think the Sioux should be fine. I have a lot of confidence in Marto and LaPoint.

Following LaPoint, I think he's at his best when he's allowed to just go out and play. The loss of Genoway will pretty much assure that he'll be running the second power play. When he's at his best is when he's in control and what a better opportunity then this? Sioux are still in good shape.

If they believed Genoway was "done" for the year, there would be no advantage to delay the announcement. The fact they are being so quiet about it makes me believe they think he can come back at some point and don't want to be specific about the injury, which would give the opposition a "target" if he does come back.

  8. bring it on, not worried about bc in regionals, only f-4's

    This Week's Brackets

    Colorado Springs

    Providence vs. Colorado College

    Minnesota vs. Miami

    Madison

    Wisconsin vs. New Hampshire

    Minnesota State vs. Michigan State

    Albany

    Army vs. Michigan

    St. Cloud State vs. Clarkson

    Worcester

    Bemidji State vs. North Dakota

    Boston College vs. Denver

    Conference Breakdown

    WCHA - 7

    CCHA - 3

    HEA - 3

    ECAC - 1

    CHA - 1

    AHA - 1

The best case scenario - we keep winning and Wisco loses enough in post-season to drop out. Then we could go to the closest regional and not worry about playing the host/conf team in game one.

It is also a big sheet, which is an advantage for us, the way this year's team is made up.

  9. You do realize marto was the fastest Sioux in the skills competition  Genoway may be quicker but Marto is flat out faster.

How was this determined - 1 lap, goal line to goal line?

  10. Overall, I find a strong bias towards gopher recruits in the NCAA because they really don't get to see a lot of other players . I knew they had it completely wrong when they dismissed Toews as just another high ranking recruit when he came to UND and where all over Kessel and Okposo.

The UND class that is coming in this year is better than anything the gophers have, believe me. And if some of the future recruits being mentioned on this board come to UND, the gophers will have absolutely no chance to beat these guys in the future, none!

    Get used to it.

Schroeder and Ness are very good - however they are both small and young. One positive about the 08 Sioux class is that it is older/bigger. It will be good to get some more size, both up front and on the blueline.

Hopefully, this season is the last that the Gophers are bigger/stronger than us.

  11. If your looking for another team to root for besides the Sioux this weekend, it would be Northeastern. Their RPI is currently 24, and it would be good for us if they could stay a TUC (+25 RPI). They play BC this weekend - a split with top 10 team would move them up the RPI for sure.

  12. IMO there has been constructive criticism re: LaPoint with virtually every poster realizing that there is a learning curve in the WCHA for frosh defensemen with the only "pettiness" being directed at Genoway which is laughable.

I like LaPoint but believe he needs to elevate his game while Chay is out. I have every confidence that he can do that but the fact remains he needs to play better than he has over the last several weeks.

    Well said.

I also think we should stop assuming to know what the coaches are telling the players - unless you heard it for yourself.

  13. He looks slow, because he is being micro managed by the bench. They just need to let him play and he will be fine. He can move the puck up the ice just as good as Chay, but is not allowed to. He did it in GB last year on a regular basis, just like Chay. He is to pass the puck to the forward or get it in deep on the 2nd power play unit.

I hope this isn't coming from DL - who else would know what the coaches are telling him but the players themselves - or you are making it up.

FYI - passing the puck to a forward is what a Dman is supposed to do. The WCHA is not the USHL, in case you haven't noticed.

He does not have the quickness Genoway has (1st 3-5 steps) to break down WCHA forwards at this point. This is why Genoway was able to pitch in at forward.

DL just needs to keep making good/fast decisions with the puck and he will be fine. Leave him alone.

  14. My guess at the ncaa brackets

    Albany

    4) Army(AHA) vs. 1) UND (WCHA)

    3) Mankato vs. 2) Clarkson (ECAC)

    Colorado Springs

    4)Bemidji St (CHA) vs. 1)CC

    3)BC vs. 2)Denver

    Madison

    4) Wisconsin vs. 1)Michigan (CCHA)

    3) Minnesota vs. 2) Michigan St

    Worchester

    4) Minn-Duluth vs. 1) New Hampshire (HEA)

    3) St. Cloud St. vs. 2) Miami (OH)

    What do you think?

    Albany

    16) Army vs. 1) UND

    9) BC vs. 8) Michigan St

    Colorado Springs

    14) UMD vs. 4) CC

    12) UMTC vs. 5) Miami OH

    Madison

    13) Wisconsin vs. 2) Michigan

    10) St. Cloud St. vs. 7) Clarkson

    Worchester

    15) Bemidji St vs. 3) New Hampshire

    11) Minn St. vs. 6) Denver

The only variation would be Mich in Worchester and UNH in Madison. This setup would be closer to the "true bracket' but I don't think it would make sense to have Mich and UNH criss-cross the country. The reason UND is in Albany is to protect the #1 overall seed. If Wisco falls out of the tournament, UND would go to Madison, if they stay #1 overall.

  15. In terms of the comparison to UND, this weekend's results shouldn't flip it but could set us up for a flip down the road. All of UND's remaining opponents are currently TUCs and UNH has two games vs. Vermont (a TUC) remaining, so UND's performance this weekend does matter in terms of being able to flip the TUC point. Plus, if Merrimack did pull two off UNH, Merrimack would be well on its way to becoming a TUC (it would push them up 4-5 spots on RPI).

As always, though, the TUC cliff looms large. Mich. Tech could drop off with a poor showing vs. Denver, which will be a blow to UND's TUC. Mass.-Lowell is on the cusp, which could actually be a boon to UNH.

A win at the F5 v CC and a NH loss to BC might flip the COP comparison - someone do the math.

  16. I think the REA will easily sell out at regular ticket prices. If the DECC is the only other option, it's no contest. They could probably convert the Mariucci, but it's not really that much better of an option to begin with.

Maybe they could play on the practice rink at the NHC. According to Craig Dahl, it "feels smaller".

I think they are talking about having training camp in GF/Duluth, not a series of games. We'll probably still get 1 exhib. game at REA, no more than that.

If they wanted to stay in the TC they could use Ridder - it's an NHL size rink.

  17. I seem to recall that it used to be that "bad wins" actually hurt you during the regular season, and were only negated during conference playoffs, since the best teams are playing the worse teams. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't remember the asterisk showing up throughout the entire season in the past.

    This from CHN:

    http://www.collegehockeynews.com/info/?d=pwcrpi

Bad win tweak: A flaw of the RPI is that it has a tendency to decrease if a good team defeats a poor team. In order to compensate for this, if a team's victory in a conference tournament game would otherwise lower its RPI, that game is removed from the formula. This only applies to conference tournament games. (Modification, 2006: All games during the season where this effect occurs, will be eliminated from RPI consideration.)

  18. i think sagard is referring to other posts of gopher fans everywhere who are acting like a win and a tie just made them a title contender :D

can the pairwise system get anymore confusing, geez :whistling:

and is this the first year without bonus points for strength of schedule and out of conferece road wins or is that still in? thanks or any help

No more bonus points - see below PWR Primer on CHNews.

    http://www.collegehockeynews.com/info/?d=pwcrpi

That is why when you go to the PWR rankings on UCHO or CollegeHockeyNews, there is no place to include ypothetical bonus points, which used be there in previous years.
