  1. I am saddened by the NCAA's nickname/mascot ruling, but for a different reason than what's been posted heretofore. You see, I am burdened, and have been humiliated for all of my life, by the mere fact that I am both of Irish descent, and the son of a Nebraskan. With the ubiquity of college sports on television, radio and in print media, I seldom go a day without being confronted
  2. Who the heck is this Kessel dude? And why should I care about him? More importantly, can anyone tell me when the Sioux start captain's practices?
  3. A few former Sioux now Unrestricted Free Agents: UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS -- GROUP 6 The following players qualify for unrestricted free agency, having met the requirements for Group 6 free agency. These players, whose contracts have expired, are age 25 or older, have completed three or more professional seasons, and (i) in the case of a player other than a goaltender, have played less than 80 NHL games (regular-season and playoff), or (ii) in the case of a goaltender, have played less than 28 NHL games (regular-season and playoff). COLORADO Chris Bala, Mathieu Darche, Andre Savage, D.J. Smith, Jeff Ulmer. COLUMBUS Francois Beauchemin, Karl Goehring, Mark Hartigan, Zenith Komarniski, Andre Lakos, Kent McDonell, Brad Moran, Jeff Panzer, Jeremy Reich, Darrel Scoville. http://www.nhl.com/players/freelist05.html
  4. Joe Finley just finished junior year of high school, too. And I read that Jack Johnson verbally commited to Michigan as a 14-year-old! It's never to early.
  5. What happens is Matt Smaby leaves? I think we'll be very, very happy that Sioux forwards appear capable of scoring a LOT of goals.
  6. Jfr, I think consensus was that the Sioux's incoming frosh were second-best, behind Michigan, IIRC. With the draft results, I'd guess that will change in a lot of people's minds. And if Jack Johnson bolts to the NHL instead of Ann Arbor as some are speculating, I'd say the Sioux all of a sudden are tops.
  7. That fact, Diggler, that you are online and replying to inane postings
  8. Why is everyone so surprised at the depth and intellect Diggler displayed in his stunning comparative study? He is, after all, a product of the University of North Dakota.
  9. For those about to shop, we salute you. http://www.siouxshop.com/product_info.php?...98a888069d8e4a0
  10. Kermit, I'll agree and disagree with you regarding Lee. I, too, have watched Brian play many times over the last two or three years, and he played more conservatively following the WJ's. But I think that style of play does not suit him. He looked out of place at least twice during the state HS tourney, and was flat out beaten in the championship game once if not twice. Brian's strength, aside from his physical strength, is his ability to take a puck away from an attacker and immediately start the rush the other way. Whether that is by skating the puck end-to-end (as he's done so beautifully and so successfully) or making a perfect outlet pass, Lee is best when he takes the game to the opponent. With all the young men on the blue line this season, and all the apparent scoring coming in, it should be fun to see Lee play the transition game. If he's able to carry his style from high school to the WCHA, he'll nab a bunch of assists, and make for some pretty astounding highlights.
  11. Mock draft from FoxSports: http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/story/3821944
  12. Ummmmmmmm, is this really what you meant? Read it again, v...e...r...y.......s...l...o...w...l...y
  13. I believe that would be a spectacular spectator spectacle.
  14. TSN has consistently provided excellent NHL coverage. http://tsn.ca/ I believe they'll stream lottery as well.
  15. I think we better hope the goalies play well. I think the D can be expected to commit a few "freshman mistakes" in front of them for awhile.
  16. I took the "not so cordial" part as that the NHL wasn't asking Brian to attend the draft, but demanding. I've not read of any telecast plans for the draft. With ESPN walking away from NHL, I expect the draft to be held in a media vacuum.
  17. Methinks Dagies is on the money here. I can't, for the life of me, remember a younger class of freshmen. Look at all the 87s on D; and Taves is an 88! I, too, think there will be some growing pains as these young men get used to the overalll size, speed and talent levels in the WCHA. Maybe the fact that most of the forwards are coming from Canadian Juniors
  18. Here's another look at NHL salaries pre- and post-lockout http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature.asp?fid=6926 (Hale is listed as a restricted free agent)
  19. Brandon Bochenski ($513,000) Pretty nice paycheck for a guy who people said can't skate
  20. Boy, for a minute there I thought you said "anything to get Greg outed! Not that there's anything wrong with that.
  21. Gee, that sounds familiar. http://siouxsports.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4236
  22. I don't know about b-to-b Hobey, but this speaks volumes to the Sertich family's strength and class. Marty played the season with a heavy, heavy heart and turned in a great performance. And Patty was in the stands to watch as many games as she could. She was the consumate hockey mom, in the most postive sense. Patty and the entire Sertich family is in my prayers.
  23. Did anyone catch the part of the BRAC hearings Monday during which a BRAC commissioner talked about GFAB and why it isn't simply being closed? He said he was "surprised" GF was on the realignment list and not the closing list. Regardless of what Dorgan and Pommeroy can do, it looks like Grand Forks has an uphill climb ahead. Scary.

    Buning is new AD

What does this mean DFS? I've not heard that the Fighting Sioux Club is in money trouble. Please explain.
