  1. What's incredible is that you can not even conceive of your beloved purposefully deceiving you, or anyone else. Sad. In the human condition, deceit is common, unfortunately, especially among ones wielding power. You and many other bison-backers have elevated Chapman to god-like status: everything he does is wonderful because of all the "good" he has done, even if he used immoral means.
  2. Duh. Presidential searches are confidential until the announcement is made. The media couldn't have verified it if they tried. UWyo had to give a no comment. The media took Joe Chapman at his word.
  3. I'm sure Whiskey Joe was demanding his lawyer be there too. Joe's threatened legal suits against the SBoHE and others before. With his litigious nature, gives one an idea of why he he thought he needed full time body guard. Of course, other people are far more forgiving than he perceives them. I have a good source that says Chapman was never ever offered the Wyoming job a couple of years ago. He used the media and the students to get a big fat raise from the state and Foundation.
  4. Chapman had left Miller etc out to hang. Individuals within the NDSU Foundation didn't want legal charges filed against themselves. They chose to "cooperate" and air the dirty laudry (like the boondoggle to Washington D.C. ) - exposing Chapman. Likely that Chapman agreed to resign - a sort of plea bargain - so that legal charges would not be filed against his wife.
  5. I wonder how much a national TV contract entered into his decision. First known acceptance, after the FCS deal. Couldn't have hurt. Signing Demler early might also help lean other Wisconsin recruits to UND.
  6. Proceed with keeping your head in the sand with regard to white collar crime.
  7. Chapman defenders can't seem to differentiate between what UND and NDSU did: Not only do Gale Chapman and the NDSU Foundation pick a floor plan that well exceeded the 900 k - legal - limit, but they then proceeded to add an additional room for $120 k. They intentionally and shamelessly exceeded the SBoHE limits, which is basically a criminal act They never informed the SBoHE of any intended overages. When the budget issues came to light, they attempted to blame flooding as the cause, instead of admitting the real issue. Finally, the SBoHE wouldn't put up with Chapman giving them the finger any more. There was a misunderstanding by both UND and NDSU and likely the SBoHE on the site preparation and landscaping charges: UND never purposefully intended to overrun the $900 K budget based on the house cost itself.
  8. Oshkosh West QB Demler commits to UND http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/...26season%3d2010 http://rivals.yahoo.com/illinois/football/...ey-Demler-89804 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANZD8Jet6lI
  9. NDSU Building Committee Knowingly Picked a Design that Exceeded Authorized Costs Then, later, tried to explain away the excessive costs as flood related, etc., etc., etc. Purposefully deceiving the SBoHE. Doesn't help the reputation of the NDSU Foundation.
  10. The posters there that worshipped him can't accept that their master had fatal flaws. It's got to be a terrible blow to their psyche. Perhaps in a some day, when all the information comes out, they'll grasph the truth. But for now, it's the blame game. It's never the person they see in the mirror: it's always the refs, the MVFC commissioner, UND, the legislature., etc, etc, etc.
  11. http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/arti...p/Local%20News/ So John Q. Paulsen, who unquestionably helped set up a relationship so that Chapman and wife could have a free hand in NDSU's Foundation treasury and was Chapman's henchman on the SBoHE, considers this "tragic"? Mr. John Q. Paulsen, your leadership and character, running an innocent and honorable Potts out of state on a rail: that's what tragic, sir. Same lines as yesterday, delivered to Patty Viverito, MVFC commissioner. Have another bottle of whine, sir. Taylor's got to be angry because he knows there is no longer any political ability to prevent the resumption of the UND-NDSU series. Any lead NDSU had through the an earlier transition has all but evaporated.
  12. Agree that UND hockey doesn't necessarily need anyone else to continue it's success. But who UND aligns itself with athletically does in the longer term define UND's academic aspirations (and vice versa). Conferences generally only invite academically similar institutions: hockey is the main anamoly to this general rule. Conference affiliations help define an institution: moving from CUSA to the Big East raised Cincinnati and South Florida both athletically and the perception of both academically. Even in DIII, there are strict athletic conference lines that divide acadmically-gifted institutions from those more challenged. If UND was not associated with Minnesota in hockey, longer-term, it would hurt. No offense to UMD, SCSU, MSUM, BSU etc, but if UND was only associated with them, that would be harmful to UND's hockey reputation (and longer-term academically).
  13. Ten days ago or so, NDSU had Homecoming. That week, as is typical, the directors of the NDSU Foundation met. Apparently the meeting took a confrontational tone. Mysteriously, within days, the Forum had documents incriminating Chapman. Chapman was gone within 10 days of the NDSU Foundation meeting. The media didn't take Chapman down, nor did the SBoHE: seems the NDSU Foundation did. There's got to be much more not revealed.
  14. His buddies on the SBoHE must have had enough. Thought he was Teflon* Joe.
  15. It's stunts like this that make Fargo taxpayers diss NDSU pet projects. What's the chance the Fargodome relooks at an arena expansion with Chapman still around? Or that the BSA gets enough alumni funding for a remake. Chapman has destroyed any credibility with taxpayers and even many NDSU alumni as far as being a wise steward of resources.
  16. Chapman apologists including many on the SBoHE, who went out of their way to tar and feather Potts and run him out of the state, have too much emotional and political capital invested in Chapman to dump him easily. Practically the whole gang has to go for changes to occur. Chapman has made it plenty clear in the past that his "concern" is NDSU and not public trust, with the full blessing of the SBoHE. Bottom line: Chapman's behavior has full backing of the SBoHE. The SBoHE created this monster.
  17. Missouri Valley Conference suspends Paschall for throwing punch !
  18. Potts If there was any justice, John Q Paulsen, Chapman, etc. etc.
  19. Doesn't NDSU own a suite at Newman Field? Mrs Chapman must consider handshakes to be events? Very convenient that the Foundation doesn't file so the compensation isn't deferred. Either it's incompetence, or purposefully planned.
  20. After the NCAA settlement, Wisconsin will play the Sioux in other sports. Cal Poly prevailed as a choice as a UND win would not have counted for the Badger's bowl eligibility. The Gophers would really need to go to bat for us. If the requirement is that any hockey associate member be FBS also (like Miami, BGSU, and WMU), then UND would either need to move up to FBS or settle in the WCHA.
  21. Kind of interesting to compare UND's FCS deal with Utah State's. In basketball, Utah State is almost always a top contender in the WAC. Utah State signs TV deal
  22. The cable systems in the B10 viewing area are probably saturated: it's the cable systems beyond the eight states of the Big Ten that aren't. Adding just a tiny fraction of those because of hockey interest is big $'s. But it's not only about subscribers, but about ratings and commerical rates and penetration of the Big Ten label. Delaney almost certainly doesn't like Big Ten schools playing a money-generating sport in non-Big Ten conferences. Delaney has also almost singlehandedly prevented a true FBS tournament championship, in large part to protect the Rose Bowl, but also so Big Ten football won't be exposed for being as weak as it is. Agree that the Big Ten Network was a huge gamble, but it's paying huge dividends. The threat of its own network prompted the SEC to get huge increases in TV dollars. The Big 12 is looking at its own network, largely because of how successful the Big Ten was. IMHO, Delaney would gladly sacrifice hockey history for contrived rivalries if it meant $'s. The Big Ten has used the MAC schools in football (the two conferences have a scheduling agreement), why not in hockey?
  23. With regards to revenue, a lot depends on how much hockey adds to the cable Big Ten Network. Cable networks are charged for the right show the BTN at like a $1 a month per subscriber. For instance, if hockey is added and the BTN gains 1 million homes as a direct result, that's an additional $12 million flowing anuually to the Big Ten. Cable companies resisted the BTN because of the fee: but they finally gave in to the Big Ten commissioner Delaney. If even 250,000 homes were added to the BTN because of hockey, Delaney would likely want a BTHC. Delaney is considered one of the most powerful men in sports. If he wants a BTHC (and all indications are that he does), he has the power to alter Maturi's and Minnesota's opinion.
