DI allows 15 full scholarships for women. Didn't one of the Gillette cousin's recently quit, opening up an additional scholarship?

Sharkova is from Belarus, which although is in eastern Europe, it is notorious for bureacratic snafus and anti-Americanism. A lot of foreign athletes have had to beg and plead with their own governments to forward the correct paperwork. Just saying the delay may have nother to do with UND's athletic department or the NCAA.

When the MWC enticed TCU to move over, supposedly there was a gentleman's understanding that at least one more central time zone team woould be added (either Houston or UTEP or possibly Tulsa - even Memphis has been mentioned). TCU needs a more natural rival and there is plenty of talent in Texas to go around. The MWC needs more presence in Texas for recruiting and for media coverage.

Not really a fair question: the women play a stronger schedule. While the Great West men's BB is very weak (it's like 1-9 and only Utah Valley State has won a DI game - that against NDSU), the next stretch of schedule should be the easiest part of the non-conference: UND should be strong favorites over Waldorf and Mayville, slight favorites over UMKC and Edwardsville even with Northern Colorado slight underdog to UT-Arlington big underdog to Drake and UWGB Sat, Nov 21 UMKC Grand Forks, N.D. 1 p.m. Tue, Nov 24 Waldorf College Grand Forks, N.D. 7 p.m. Fri, Nov 27 Northern Colorado Grand Forks, N.D. 1 p.m. Sun, Nov 29 Green Bay Grand Forks, N.D. 4 p.m. Fri, Dec 04 Texas-Arlington at Des Moines, Iowa 5 p.m. Sat, Dec 05 Drake or SIU-Edwardsville at Des Moines, Iowa Tue, Dec 08 Mayville State Grand Forks, N.D.

While we have won almost every recent recruiting battle with NDSU, we've haven't been targeting any recruits that high majors have also been after. To be successful, we have to have those type players. Women's basketball is so much easier to recruit because even many of the major conferences don't attract major crowds (except the Tennessees, and UCONNs), TV audiences, and the post-college professional world does not offer huge $ contracts. UND should be second after UMinn for any recruit in Minnesota. That just doesn't seem to be happening.

If the Sioux had won any one of those games, it would have been an upset. What we really need is some Summit teams! But guess what, up next is UM-KC.

Rumor: Boise, Fresno, and Nevada to MWC TCU won't want to be the only Central Time Zone school, and Houston is too large a market. I still think Houston gets in over Nevada. With UNLV already in the MWC, Reno doesn't add much. If the MWC does add three, the Big Sky and Great West football will both have a shakeup. There's also persistent rumors that, if the MWC is closing in on a BCS bid, the PAC 10 will add Utah and Colorado. If the Big 12 loses Colorado, it would respond by taking either Colorado St (for the Denver media) or BYU. Losing two of Utah, Colorado St, or Utah would be a major blow to the MWC.

Congrats to UC Davis! Presently surprised that the defense didn't yield more yards and points. Seems the linebacker corps and DL is starting to step up: good new for next year. Wonder what % Bamba and Sutton were operating at following injuries. Neither of them had much of a game. Landry's quite a competitor, but did he grow as a quarterback this year? With Goska running the offense, it just seems to click better. Perhaps the thinking with Landry is that he is more capable of getting a deep ball to Bamba. With the game vs Central Arkansas, UND gains an additional two weeks of practice (relative to programs like USD) and one more week relative to the rest of the FCS. I hope UND can schedule another game on the 2010 Thanksgiving week (like @ South Alabama).

Three MVFC schools are possible FBS conference candidates: Ill State, Youngstown St (not to the MAC, but to a possible new eastern FBS conference), and Missouri State (to CUSA). If any one of them moves on, USD and UND would both likely be invited, as another defection could also occur.

Loyola Marymount's top three players are now sophomores, including an WCC all-star. Practically their whole team is sophomore or younger. (But, guess that's true for UND too. ) A lot of patience will be needed: hope Wilmer can start playing soon. The Sioux need an inside presence.

Agree that it's rather bad journalism, especially for call out certain players, more like a blog. But the same story was in USA Today

A rumor going around is that Illinois State will be moving up to FBS and join the MAC for football only once the moratorium is over. That would explain why Ball State scheduled a home and home with Illinois State, when FCS schools don't normally get home games against FBS teams. Ill State would play MAC football in like 2014, but needs FBS games in the transition. This rumor actually makes sense on a number of different levels: the MAC has an unbalanced divisional alignment with 7 teams in the east (including Temple) and 6 in the west. Adding Ill St balances that, as well as giving N Ill an in-state rival. Also, Illinois State wouldn't need to leave the Missouri Valley for basketball, as the MAC allows football affiliation. If Ill State leaves, the MVFC would be down to 8, and it would likely want to add UND and USD at that time.

What level did Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Tony Romo, Joe Flacco, or Kurt Warner play at? Guess they didn't meet the standards of the Badgers!

No doubt Bamba is a prospect. Growing up in Quebec, his English was very limited until he came to UND. As the communication gap narrows, game knowledge and team communication will only get better. After one of most unimpressive Sioux games in years, I'd like to know who the other four players they were impressed with? Hawkins? Sutton? Bondy? Brenneman?

The fan code was in the Herald yesterday, I believe. It may just be the internet vs print version. The Herald stopped comments on anything related to the Sioux name, largely because there were so many ignoramus comments from both sides. The Forum seems to delight in dragging the Sioux name through scum with any possible method, so keeping anonymous comments open serves their end. The Forum just lambasted the lastest Bottineau court decision with the implication the REA and its lawyer henchmen are interfering with the SBoHE nickname deadline being imposed. While the Jacobs and the Herald are anti-nickname, they realize the aftermath of a nickname removal will be messy: the Forum will take delight in the mess and any harm caused to UND.
