  1. It doesn't say that. It says a name or logo can't be adopted until Jan 2015.
  2. Roughriders is my second choice also, but I don't believe it will make the ballot, North Stars either. Do you want to be a Sundog, a Nodak, or a Fighting Hawk?
  3. It's also funny that the people who believe the NCAA is waiting in the shadows, sharpening knives, just salivating over the oppurtunity to punish UND has simply ignored the fact that UND has violated the settlement agreement for just shy of four years. I believe the agreement says "new" because nobody really considered the possibility of a school forgoing a nickname and the word "different" could be substituted and follow the spirit of the agreement. For example, had Flickertails been chosen? Would the NCAA come down on UND because it's not a "new" nickname? It's simple, if the no nickname options wins the vote, have the Law School write a letter asking for clarification on whether it violates the agreement and rules on Native American imagery. I don't think Kelly can do this by himself, he doesn't have the credibility, so it would need to be a transparent process to get many peoples buy-in.
  4. You're cherry picking what the settlement actually says to make your argument. The agreement states that the transition must be COMPLETE by 8-15-2011, we know the NCAA doesn't care about state law after the whole debacle mandating Fighting Sioux so why would they respect the 'cooling off' period? If the NCAA is honoring the "transition" then just say the nickname issue will be revisited in 100 years or when 75% of the student body votes to adopt a new name, permanent "transition" and maybe somebody will eventually come up with a good nickname idea. What if Flickertails had been selected? Would you be saying the NCAA is going to ban-hammer UND because it's not a NEW nickname? Unless somebody has asked the NCAA, nobody knows exactly what they'll do. What you don't understand is that many wholeheartedly believe the nickname committee failed, their suggestions are garbage, and aren't willing to check the "any" box on the ballot just to put this behind them. In 25 years I would hate to have to try and explain why UND adopted Fighting Hawks...
  5. Would you say that picture captures the entire North Dakota population of "Fighting Hawks" or is it more of a localized sample size?
  6. http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/3802759-brad-schlossman-nickname-committee-ignores-what-public-wanted Schloss nailing it.
  7. Link to the petition mentioned earlier, currently over 1500 signatures, let them know how you feel. https://www.change.org/p/reinstate-the-university-of-north-dakota-north-dakota-nickname
  8. Why would it have to be a risk? Could somebody not just ask the NCAA? Dear NCAA, We're nearing the final stages of choosing a new nickname, and if I'm being honest, most of the nickname suggestions are garbage. Anyways, the smartest and best-looking of our fans think we should remain without a nickname, simply the University of North Dakota. What do you think? Sincerely, President K-dog
  9. They didn't put UND back on the list on 8-15-11, why would they now?
  10. Try not to hurt yourself backpedaling. It's not reality yet, if I get a vote it'll be cast for remaining simply "North Dakota", as will the vote of everybody else I know.
  11. Better than Sundogs or 99.99% of anything else some overpriced marketing team is going to come up with.
  12. Well a few years ago everybody called them Fighting Sioux, now everybody calls them North Dakota, that's a NEW development.
  13. Ok...then so did UND, "North Dakota".
  14. History? Tradition? Love? Because two guys who just 3 days ago committed to play hockey here put #gosioux in their announcement tweets, and that's pretty cool.
  15. Well...Stanford dropped their native nickname after a student senate vote and adopted a color to replace it. But, then again, who's heard of Stanford.
  16. If they wanted UND back on the list they could of done it years ago, the nickname moratorium was added by the state. The NCAA specified a date of Aug 15 2011 and only requires that UND not use a nickname or logo that violates its policy on native american imagery. Stop posting partial quotes in a self-serving attempt to advance your adgenda.
  17. I agree that the moratorium should be extended. I haven't heard a suggestion that I've liked, and so far I prefer just being the University of North Dakota. Rushing to a decision as a result of a t-shirt or to put another name "behind us" is an idiotic idea. Did you see the quote from the girl saying that she's embarrassed to be graduating from UND, we'll...then don't.
  18. For real? Nevermind, it's ok to lose to the team picked to finish 11th in the CCHA then. The world didn't end, but PWR doesn't care if it's the first game or the last.
  19. Wouldn't need to win 9 out of 10 at the end of the year if the hole wasn't dug so deep at the beginning.
  20. LOL! Good one! Wait, that was a joke right?
  21. So does this mean that the Sioux will now automatically get the Friday night game at the Final Five because we bring the most fans?
  22. Davidson!! 2-1 Sioux!
  23. TH and Gino talking Big Ten Hockey Conference. Why doesn't this forum have the barfing smiley?
  24. TH said Gregoire was held out mostly as a precaution, and barring anything happening during practice this week, would be available next weekend.
