Chad Calcaterra, a 6'10", a 240 lb center, visited UND today and was offered (he may have been offered before today). Calcaterra spent his first two years at CSU (recruited by Tim Miles). He redshirted his first year and then played sparingly as a freshman. He then transferred to Western Nebraska CC where last year he averaged less than 9 minutes and less than 4 points per game. I don't know if he was hurt but probably not as he played in all the team's 30 games. Nice size but I don't know how much he would contribute.
I agree we need some bigs but, if we can land a great shooting gaurd who is willing to redshirt, we need to grabl him! Four of the above will be seniors and, while the others may be good players, I'm not sure they have the talent level to play a great 2!
I know they are hoping to find a HS PF that would redshirt next year. I understand they are also looking at a SG and have offered a kid but he is leaning towards going elsewhere.
Usually the first week of spring ball so I would think we would see it quite soon. It will be interesting to see who has added weight (hopefully, muscle) over the winter workouts.
What is the weather doing up there this morning? That may be a long 500+ mile drive. I hope they: 1) are able to get there today and 2) can get there at a decent time so they can relax and get a good night of rest.
We along with NDSU, UNI, Creighton, Portland, San Fran, Wyoming and Cal-Fullerton offered SF Marquel Curtis, who played at Williston JC. The 6'3, 190, from Robbinsdale Armstrong has verbaled to Tulsa.
I am curious what others' reaction to these comments might be. Do others close to program or at least have been to most of the women's games agree or disagree?
I am hopeful but believe it would be a longshot - the kid is getting a lot of attention. However, landing Hooker should cause other MN kids to give us an increased level of consideration.
I was excited when Williams committed as she was an important cog in the best HS team in MN. Mills was a late addition and I didn't think she got any (or minimal) scholarship $ - I certainly may be wrong. I was disappointed that Williams wasn't more of a contributor but I was initially quite pleased that Mills did contribute more than expected. They must have been having attitude/motivational issues as they both regressed instead of showing any improvemeent.
