  1. Does anyone have a handful of ex-Sioux players that they really didn't like? Guys you thought were overrated or lazy? Despite being a die-hard fan there are a couple that I just didn't like for no particular reason. I would have defended them to my last breath if a rodent fan critizied them, but I really didn't like them. I don't want names, but I was wondering if anyone else has felt this way.
  2. He appears to be having alot of fun with RSP. Also, depending on what his financial status he may be able to put off the money for a year. I would consider waiting a year to cash in if the year was spent as a UND hockey star. He is a frickin' king at this place. That said, you got to be practical and take the money. I'd be shocked if he came back.
  3. I think the football player was Jeremy Bloom from Colorado. Seemed like a stupid rational for the NCAA. I think he is done skiing now and is hoping to play pro football. I appears that an athlete can be employed so long as they aren't getting preferencial treatment based on their athletic endeavors. I'd have to guess that the NCAA would not go for this situation, and as mentioned, Hak would have a fit. But if the players in question are on the way out anyway... Allowing this would allow any college star to sell artwork or whatever and make big bucks. I can image a limited addition Reggie Bush lithograph, signed of course, going for good money.
  4. Snipity concerning the NCAA, this would be an intersting one if challenged in Court. Rules to Remember 1. Representatives of Athletics Interests cannot provide an "extra benefit" or special arrangements to an enrolled student-athlete that is not available to all other students at the University. 2. If a student-athlete accepts any benefit based on his/her athletic ability, that athlete will lose all eligibility for intercollegiate athletic participation. If the student-athlete has completed eligibility, the institution is still responsible and may receive penalties applied to the sport program. Additionally, the booster or representative involved may be told to disassociate from the University's athletics program. As a representative of the University of California's athletic interests, you may not: 1. Provide a student-athlete with extra benefits or services including, but not limited to: --a loan of money --a guarantee of bond --the use of an automobile --signing or co-signing a note with an outside agency to arrange a loan; 2. Make services available to a student-athlete (e.g., movie tickets, dinners, use of a car) from commercial agencies (e.g., movie theaters, restaurants, car dealers) without charge or at reduced rates; 3. Provide a student-athlete with a special discount, payment arrangement or credit on a purchase or service; 4. Provide a student-athlete with professional services without charge or at a reduced cost; 5. Allow a student-athlete to use a telephone or credit card without charge or at a reduced cost; or 6. Serve as a "sponsor" or "family" for enrolled student-athletes. Student-Athlete Employment The University is permitted to arrange employment for prospective student-athletes during the summer prior to their enrollment as freshmen (provided they have signed a National Letter of Intent) and enrolled student-athletes. The Compliance Services Office must keep written records verifying employment of all student-athletes. The following rules are applicable to student- athlete employment: 1. A student-athlete's compensation may not include any payment for value or utility that the student-athlete may have for the employer because of the publicity, reputation, fame or personal following that he or she has obtained because of athletics; 2. The student-athlete is compensated only for work actually performed; 3. the student-athlete is compensated at a rate commensurate with the going rate in that locality for similar services. A student-athlete can receive money from you or your family for teaching or giving lessons in their sport. To do this the following conditions must be met: 1. Institutional facilities cannot be used; 2. To simply "play" against the student-athlete is not permitted (e.g., playing lessons); 3. Documentation of the lessons must be on file with the Compliance Services Office; 4. Compensation for the lessons must be paid by the lesson recipient or family and not anyone else.
  5. I heard we took Jonathon Toews to get the in on his more talented brother.
  6. I think this thread, along with a sampling of RSP tunes should be used as a recruiting tool by the coaches. It just shows that Sioux hockey is king in ND and the players can do no wrong. These jokesters could probably make some decent money selling albums and t-shirts and stuff based 100% on their visibilty as hockey boys.
  7. I looked around the other player rankings for awhile and it looks like the players with more pedigree have higher letter ratings...(Parise, Suter...) I'm not upset, just think that it is a pretty silly category which would be nearly impossible to measure. I agree that Oshie may have a tough transition to the net. I remember hearing that Belfour was a solid forward in practice, so I guess Oshie could be a two way player. They could rotate the players in and out of the net. Might be interesting.
  8. If Oshie is given a D I'd like to see the work ethic of a A or B.
  9. As a recap, here are a few quotes from earlier in this thread:
  10. I have been a Sioux hockey fan since the early 1980's and have never been more impressed with a player as I am with Oshie. There have been countless outstanding young man that have gone through this program and countless talented hockey players, but Oshie truly seems to be one of a kind. He's worth the price of admission for me.
  11. I think the gopher bubble would have been described with a different adjective if he intended to stir things up. I don't take any offense being told that I have green colored glasses, but the additional adjective is used solely as an insult. I too wish Spirko to stay. I also think that Kessel should spend a year in the USHL to polish up his game before he embarrasses himself in the WCHA again
  12. No doubt that Triouxper is awfully harsh, but you came to the Sioux board and started this. "Sorry to burst your puke green bubble" - Not exactly objective discussion. Minnesota has talent, the Sioux have talent. The majority of posters here are Sioux fans as this is the SiouxSports Message board. As a fan of another team you have to expect others to stand up for the home team. If I post a non-inflamatory bit on GPL saying that the SIoux freshmen were more impressive in my opinion than the gophers I'm going to get ripped despite the hospitable nature of the post. That's fine because it's a gopher board. In short, if you call the Sioux puke green you are obviously looking for attention and/or trouble. Grew up and post something of any value, or voice your contrary opinion in an adult fashion or go home. Sagard is a gopher fan that is well respected despite his allegence. Just be respectful dude
  13. The problem with Oshie's situation is that the Blues have him by the snarklies at this point. It is extremely hard to imagine him staying for 4 years and becoming a free agent. It's not like he's a junior with one year left.
  14. I don't think that Blake got away with that much. He was much more talk than action in terms of chippiness. I also don't remember him kicking anyone. I don't think there is any doubt that Irmen has the potential to be a third or fourth line center. I don't see Potulny fitting that mold as well as Irmen, and I don't know if Potulny has the game to be a first or second line center in the NHL. Time will tell.
  15. Impossible to make a guess until the defections shake out. If there are mass defections from Wisc., UND and U of M one of the bottom tier teams with more seasoned upperclassmen could be a big surprise.
  16. Every BC goal was the direct result of an awful Sioux play. I don't think any were sustained pressure. That play by Smaby was incredible, reminded me or Harrington last year he was so lost. Man that was a tough game to watch. I don't mind losing to solid play by an opponent, but that was a gift. Who would have thought the Sioux put up 5 and lose. AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Let the defections began.

    Hrkac

The college game has more high end NHL prospects now than ever before. I sure hope that the current Sioux team will put up better cumulative numbers than the 1987 team. I know that ain't gonna happen in the net, but it should up front. No question that the 1987 team was a truly dominant college team, and an absolute blast to watch. As far as pure talent I'd take this class.
  18. Depressing statement here about Zajac http://www.bergen.com/page.php?qstr=eXJpcn...2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2
  19. The golden boys lose to a team with NO ATHLETHIC SCHOLARSHIPS. That is too funny.
  20. This is going to be one of the most stressful off-seasons in regard to the flight watch for both Sioux and Gopher fans. The weeks after the draft are going to be interesting. The one thing with the Sioux that I think is a positive in terms of players returning is their age. Stafford is still younger players on the team and Oshie, Toews, and Lee are young. I'm guessing that Stafford will be gone, but it's not like he's 23.
  21. It certainly is a job and a grind, but it is a little easier with a full wallet. Additionally, almost all college boys are going to spend some time in the AHL so you gotta pay your dues at some point. I stick by preferring the college groupie hoochie. Probably go with NHL hoochie, but the minor league hoochie has to be second class. Certainly depends on the school, but WCHA groupies are pretty impressive. I won't site examples to protect the not so innocent.
  22. Everyone knows that college groupies and far superior to AHL groupies.
  23. I don't think that Hrkac was a real academic. Kariya would have only finished one semester. Since the winners range from freshmen to seniors I doubt that GPA is much of a factor.
  24. I assume the rumors are completely bogus, but a lease can be breached. If they own the building they can do what they want. There would likely be damages which could be sought, but they are the owner. Just like an owner of an apartment building kicking tenants out. I don't know if there are any buy-out clauses or anything else. The university would likely seek an injuction to stop the imposition sighting irreparable damages caused by the breach. It would get pretty interesting.
  25. Someone should go back and find all the posters who voiced displeasure with Oshie coming in this year.
