Union holding penalty,
-
Another penalty on the Gophers, hooking.
-
Gophers get an easy one. Union goalie thought he had the puck but dropped it at his feet.
-
Obviously I didn't really see what I thought I saw. A Gopher with a high hit to the head for a penalty? I thought they didn't play that style.

I have work to do on my 1979 MGB and then to drive it around all summer, have two Canadian fishing trips (well north of Winnipeg) totaling sixteen days, possibly attend the air show at Oshkosh, attend the International Barbershop Quartet competition in Minneapolis, and attend a high school class reunion. That gets me to about mid-August. Then there will be a couple more fishing trips to Lake of the Woods. That just about gets me to hockey season.

SIOUX vs. GOPHERS - Thursday, F4 Philly style Gameday
Siouxman replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Actually, I am not feeling all that bad. Yes, it is a tough loss, but the boys played very well and gave it their all. That was a great game between two good teams. I will say congratulations to the Gophers and hope their fans can be gracious in victory. I will root for Union, simply because I believe they are a very good team and I would rather have them win. -
It is called hybrid icing. It is still no touch icing, but it is triggered by the first player to get to the faceoff dot in the zone. If it is a defensive player, the whistle is blown for icing. If it is a tie, the whistle is blown for icing. If the offensive player gets to the dot first, icing is waived off and play continues. Please note that sometimes the officials don't see quite straight and whistles are blown when they shouldn't be.

BC learns what UND fans already know. One big line does not cut it this time of year.
-
5-4 final. BC is golfing.
-
BC goal. 5-4 Union
-
Not icing because Union got to the dot of the face off circle first. Not high sticking because it wasn't touched.
-
Goal stands. Was reviewed for a potential high stick.
-
ENG Union 5-3
-
BC scores. 4-3 Union
-
2:32 to go, BC goalie out.
-
What? Is the camera on you again?
-
Wow. Just wow.
-
I have a love/hate relationship with this time of year. I love the fact that UND is competing in the Frozen Four and have a chance to win it all. I hate the fact that in three days we will begin the long dark summer period without Fighting Sioux hockey.
-
With that much hate and anger, a loss tomorrow might take ten years off his life expectancy.
-
MN hockey players on the MN roster represent 3.875 X 10-6 % of the population and ND hockey players on the UND roster represent 4.149 X 10-6 % of the population. Therefore UND has a higher percentage of its state population on the roster than MN has on its roster. End of discussion?

Thank you for finding this. Unfortunately, it has shaded one of my favorite memories just a little bit. The truth appears closer to Mariucci's position, so I will concede and offer apologies to Mariucci, but thank the Gophers for that memory. I am still optimistic that the Gopher team that shows up on Thursday will not be as great as Gopher fans seem to think they are, and the Fighting Sioux team that shows up will be as good as advertised.
-
Sorry, but you are waaaaay off again Mariucci. What he posted were polls, not Pairwise Ranking. I was talking Pairwise Ranking, which is based off actual competition and not voting. Unbelievable.
-
Sorry Mariucci, but you are waaaaaaaaaaaaay off. Here are the USCHO Pairwise rankings as of April 9, 2006, AFTER Holy Cross beat Minnesota. This shows them as 40th after the greatest upset in Division I hockey history. Scores through April 8, 2006 courtesy of USCHO.com . While Holy Cross came in as a #4 seed, that does not explain the entire story. The #4 seed was of the four teams in the regional. Holy Cross got the AHA autobid by winning their conference tournament. At the time, Holy Cross was ranked about #54 out of 59 schools in the Pairwise ranking. It was a much greater upset than a four seed beating a one seed. It was team literally ranked almost last out of all Division I hockey programs defeating a team that was ranked #1 or #2 in all of college hockey.

Easily the loudest game I have heard at The Ralph is the World Juniors Championship game between Canada and Russia. Russia had Ovechkin and Canada had Crosby. This is no contest because the WJC allows bullhorns, air horns, and other noise makers into the stands. Combine that with Canadian insanity at the game, and it is the winner. The obscenities and other verbal abuse hurled at Ovechkin and the Russian team was unbelievable. I was at the HC4 MN3 game and the following UND-MI game. I am not sure you can separate those two games, because the noise from the OT winner by Holy Cross carried right through the intermission to the second game.
