  1. I'm guessing that he didn't fill out the UND application. No one can actually be put through the process without that application. An email like that is probably pretty standard if someone hasn't sent in the paperwork that is asked for in the job listing. If Faison is talking to someone that hasn't applied yet that person would still have to fill out an application at some point before he could be officially hired. That doesn't mean that Faison isn't talking to other potential candidates. Like any government organization, UND has to have all of the proper paperwork in place before they can proceed.
  2. That's why sports is considered a marketing tool, it attracts students and money from alumni. But the real job of the school is to educate those students. That's what makes those other positions important. And sports isn't the main reason that most students pick a school.
  3. I got your point. You think the decision should only be about football. Others disagree with you. There is a lot more to the job than just the 60 minutes that happen on a Saturday.
  4. The search committee doesn't handle any of those. As another poster discussed in an earlier post, those things are handled by HR as a part of their work. I'm not too sure that people in college athletics would consider academics, compliance and the rest as petty, detailed stuff. They are an important part of running a successful college program. I don't think the volleyball program thinks that valid driver's licenses are a petty thing any more either.
  5. You confuse money with what is important. Saban and other coaches get paid because people are willing to pay good money to watch the games. People don't pay to watch the Provost or the Dean of the Med School work, but I would say that those and many other positions are far more important in the real world than the football coach.
  6. Hiring a coach is more than just X's and O's. They have to cover things like academics, compliance, ability to work with other sports, dealing with the public, etc. Faison and Bruce Smith can cover the football stuff.
  7. Right now we are at 26 days. My guess is that the policy has gotten more cumbersome in the past decade with legal getting more involved to protect the University and state interests.
  8. And BTW, there are bigger deals on a college campus than the football coach, even if some sports fans don't realize it.
  9. Too many people worry about what is happening in Fargo versus doing what is best for UND, and worry too much about what other people think. What is important is the final result of the search and whether they find a good coach.
  10. Maybe it will. I just find it interesting that other coaching positions, and plenty of other important positions, must have been filled using this process yet no one got upset until it affects the football coach.
  11. His way around the policy is to hire one of the coordinators. Promoting from within is much easier. If he can't get that done than he will probably have to follow the policy and they have a longer listing period than UND.
  12. Has it ever been brought up before as an issue for the athletic department? If not, who would have thought about changing it? The only other time I remember it being mentioned as an issue was when the President was hired. Obviously it is a much worse policy when it affects the hiring of a football coach, at least in the eyes of many.
  13. Do we know that the eventual coach is already on the list?
  14. With the open records law in place, which coach would have applied for the job before their current season ended? An additional week is not worth hiring from a list of weak candidates.
  15. It has been mentioned at least a couple of times on recent threads (including a couple of posts ago on this thread) that someone bought all of the mugs that had been left and sold them on Ebay.
  16. He probably has a lot of Fargo followers, and that sounds like something they would say. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a bunch of BSvillers claiming that Fargo and Scheels outbid the Ralph.
  17. UND is the host school for Scheels, so if UND makes the tournament in 2015 they will be at Scheels. First time in years that UND doesn't have to go play in someone else's back yard.
  18. Is there anything false about his tweet? The Ralph and UND put in 2 bids for the regional tournaments. One was to be held at the Ralph. The other was a joint bid with Scheels Arena. Therefore Scheels couldn't outbid the Ralph if the Ralph was part of the bid.
  19. This seems to be your issue. The rest of us are discussing Mr. Pflugrad and whether his sanctions by the NCAA will affect his opportunity to be the new head football coach at UND. As someone stated earlier, the NCAA could probably find violations at pretty much every school if it wanted to do so. The fact that they actually did go and find violations at Montana, and the fact that they attributed part of the blame to Pflugrad, are what is at issue in regards to Pflugrad's potential employment. Potential violations at NDSUAAS and UND are a completely different topic.
  20. It is very possible that they could be. Pflugard and Montana were found in violation. Major difference. That is the reality. Pflugard has been punished by the NCAA and that will be an issue he has to overcome if he is going to get the job. I'm sure that he realizes it.
  21. It stuck enough that he was sanctioned in his new position at Weber. He is on the NCAA radar and that will factor into whether he gets the UND job or not.
  22. Whether it's ridiculous or not doesn't matter, it is still an infraction. And that still doesn't cover the bail payment and free legal services. The players and coaches are all informed about what is an infraction and what is not an infraction.
  23. Nothing new. But it shows that there was more than just the rape accusation. And it shows a history of NCAA related issues. With the history of UND and the NCAA in the last decade it could be important to be very careful with anyone that has been in trouble with the NCAA.
  24. Doesn't stop him from being a legit candidate. May keep him from actually getting the job. It depends on Faison's research and his determination about how responsible Mr. Pflugard was for the issues. It will also depend on how he interviews compared to others. I think that there are about 1/2 dozen candidates that could get in-person interviews based on the actual contents of their application and how they interview on the telephone. And there is still the possibility of someone that has not officially applied as of right now. But as far as Pflugard, there are definite red flags that will need to be examined before he has a chance of being hired.
