U.S. International University was a college team out of San Diego for about 8 or 9 years in the 80s.

Brad Buetow was the coach the last 3 years, after coaching at the University of Minnesota for several years in the early 1980's.

I also find it hard to believe it will be that hard to get tickets. The 2012 Western Regional final at the X barely had over 10,000 people attend, and that game had a trip to the Frozen Four riding on it.
People have 3 years to plan this trip, to a very popular destination, for a guaranteed game against a long time rival. That makes it a completely different animal from a regional. The hockey game is only one part of the equation. It's not like there is nothing else to do in Las Vegas. People plan trips there all the time. Even casual fans are going to have an interest in this game, unlike having a regional appearance with only a week to plan the trip.

This is nice but to have to wait for UND/MN to resume playing only to have it be in Las Vegas is kind of a bummer, hope at least it will be televised.
The teams will play next season (2016-2017) in Minneapolis. They will play in Grand Forks the following season (2017-2018). This Las Vegas game is in fall of 2018.

All I can say is that these guys are positive it's a real NCAA rule. Like I said they aren't blood related.
Tell them to show it to you in the rule book. The entire rule book is available online.

The new Video Boards (along other smaller or convention side things/kitchen upgrades etc) and I'm glad they have the plan and finances to keep it upgraded.
I just think it'd be nice if they did more for the arena side. Like multiple things mentioned here before before: Upgrades to the hallway walls, Put a ceiling to cover the pipes. Put an actual floor down instead of painted concrete, etc.
Maybe those things are next.
The ceiling, floor and walls themselves are part of the look they were going for with the arena. It's a multi-use facility and they didn't want it to look fancy. The concrete floors are also easier to maintain and clean, so it helps keep costs down. Even a lot of clubs go with exposed pipes, concrete floors, and more of a spartan look. I don't see them making huge changes to those things any time soon, but I could be wrong. Decorations are a different story. I have no idea if they ever plan to change the decor in that part of the building.

The city of Grand Forks really does need to be thinking about how to raise funds to upgrade/update the Alerus Center, It's 15 years old now.
Every year that goes by it becomes more outdated. And that's not good for no one. The Alerus whether you like it or not is a show/center piece of Grand Forks, this isn't the Old Civic Center, and the Civic Leaders of Grand Forks need to make sure it stays current.
They did an excellent job with the upgrade a few years ago to the convention side with all the exterior glass and the new video boards (Where did that money come from?) But not much has changed in the arena side besides a few minor things.
They have actually spent quite a bit of money throughout the building over the past decade. The money comes from the same sales tax that is paying for the building, it was set up that way. The plan was also to have a reserve built up before that tax ends after 30 years.
Some of the upgrades include changing the front of the convention part of the building, adding the glass on the east side of the arena, changes at the suite level, new carpeting throughout the building, painting the building, new technology throughout the building, they remodeled the offices, new turf, new video boards, and that is just off the top of my head. I think they also did some upgrades or changes to the HVAC systems. Keeping the building updated has been part of the plan for the building and they have done a pretty good job of doing that. Some of these updates have been really public and reported all over the news. Some of them aren't very sexy so they didn't get much coverage.

Attendance would have been well under 2,000 if UND was playing outdoors last weekend. Weather was miserable. Tailgating almost wasn't fun, but we managed.
Can you imagine attendance if they were playing outside today? It wasn't even that cold, but it was uncomfortable with the mixed range of moisture and a pretty good breeze.

Howard Wood Field has been updated in recent years, but typically only host high school games and Track & Field. I know USF plays on campus, and I believe Augustana has a on campus field or shares USF's so I don't think any college teams play here consistently. I do know NDSU played USD or SDSU here a few years ago and it was sold out weeks in advance.
Augustana used Howard Wood until 2008. They got a donation of $6 million that helped them build an open-air stadium on campus that seats 6,500.

Just don't get how people could agree to buy newly designed merch sight unseen. You all saw that Biscuits logo, right?
I will be buying University of North Dakota merchandise, to support the University of North Dakota. The school itself and the athletic programs for that school have been the most important things for me all along. Not being attached to a specific nickname and logo. Does that make it easier to understand?

80s era grad. Still have Sioux and Fighting Sioux stuff, wear it less often than before and some is wearing out. Have purchased and wear various items of apparel with North Dakota or University of North Dakota, but purchase less often than before because it has been pretty boring. Agree with jdub, the interlocking ND doesn't excite me because I've had people ask me about Notre Dame while wearing it. It isn't a real effective brand if people automatically associate it with another school. Will purchase and wear new nickname and logo merchandise, how much I purchase will depend on how much I like it. I will probably continue to buy UND and North Dakota stuff, I've always had some of that in addition to Sioux merch.

Not possible with the current Midco contract. FSN gets to choose from the games Midco doesn't pick up. Midco picks up all hockey and football gamse. Would like to see FSN become the lead broadcaster next go around.
UND would be approximately 8th priority with Fox Sports North after the Twins, Timberwolves, Wild, Gopher football, Gopher basketball, Gopher hockey and assorted Minnesota High School and small college sports. They like the basketball games because they have lost enough games to other networks that they have some holes in their schedule, and UND does the production work so they are cheap to produce. But I don't think they are bringing a whole lot of cash in for UND.

Do they have a Native American nickname/mascot?
I'm guessing they would have came up with some better choices.
A brand new professional hockey franchise came up with Wild. They could have picked anything. Another picked Blue Jackets, a vague reference to fighting for the North in the Civil War (their second choice was Justice). Yet another picked Lightning. Look at the names in the NBA (Sun, Heat, Magic, Thunder, Pelicans, Wizards, Hornets, Spurs). And all of the schools with Native American names that changed to some form of Hawk. There is no guarantee that any nickname process would come up with a better list than the one that UND came up with.

Since no one has mentioned this, http://www.undsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=210468794. 24 home games on television between men and women, with games on Midco Sports, Fox Sports North and Fox College Sports.

This comment implies that somebody wants to be bitter. While I will refrain from making such accusations, I don't see how any of us can be completely free of bitterness whether we want it or not. If you are, you must not have been been paying attention to this insulting process.
You can get rid of the bitterness. Here is some help, http://scienceblogs.com/grrlscientist/2009/06/02/posttraumatic-embitterment-dis/.

For what it's worth, this was my message to the Alumni Office today:
Dear Alumni Office:I'm appalled to read that President Kelley decided he should (even could!) change the established nickname voting process on the fly.1. Changing the voting rules in the middle of the process gives an appearance of manipulating the election.2. A three-way vote can result in the least-liked choice winning a plurality. (This defeats the *primary purpose* of a run-off.)The voting process must be designed to get over 50 % of voters to have voted for the eventual-winner, so we can move forward. President Kelley has put the university in a situation where it may need to choose between a third round of voting or proceeding without public support and integrity. If there is no majority in this second round, holding a third round is vital to successfully moving forward.I wanted to address President Kelley himself, but I cannot find an email address for him. I would appreciate it if you could forward this to the president's office. You might want to catch up. This was announced on Wednesday. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/local/3870797-updated-third-vote-possible-und-nickname-school-wants-win-majority
UPDATED: Third vote possible for UND nickname, school wants win by majority
UND’s new athletic nickname will be decided by majority vote, meaning there’s a possibility a winner won’t be chosen until well into November.
The school announced Wednesday if none of the three options up for next week’s runoff vote receives more than 50 percent of the votes, a third round of voting will be held shortly after.

I don't think UND even attempted 10 passes today.
According to ESPN Bartels was 1 out of 2 and Studsrud 6 out of 9.

You can't just redshirt someone after they start playing. They have to have a medical redshirt once their playing time has started.
You can't call it a redshirt season once he plays in a season unless he is awarded a medical redshirt. You can use the actual redshirt in any season, as was said you have 5 to play 4.

And wolverines no longer inhabit Michigan. The last one died in about 2010. < shrug >
It has also been reported that the last California grizzly, the animal that the Bear State was named after, was shot in the 1920's.
For The Love of God, Not Fighting Hawks
in UND Nickname
Posted
Because someone else already owns it. And UND isn't going to choose a logo that has any significant resemblance to the Brien version of the Fighting Sioux logo.
