I disagree. I'm moving to the suburbs of Phoenix next week and it seems like people don't mind the commute. People are building houses 40 miles outside of Phoenix at an astronomical rate. It seems people like these large, spread out neighborhoods just fine.

There will probably be some UND admin in there shortly after the game. Usually Bollinger and other coaches will stop in. Then later on football coaches may or may not come in. Students usually head back to party for a while. When I was a student here was my normal game day: 9:00 am sluggishly fall out of bed from the coaxing of some buddies. Lay on couch and watch College GameDay. 10:00 am make was to Alerus parking lot and start drinking. Usually just find people and eat whatever they have. (if you don't know people there someone will still invite you in probably) Take down a few sioux bombs (green grapes soaked in everclear or vodka) and check out the ladies 1:05 stumble in to the building yelling and cheering 1:08 go to the bathroom 1:10 take my spot in the first row behind the opposing teams bench and start yelling halftime: head to the beer garden and chug a beer (cannot leave building, did so successfully only one time) Second half: continue heckling Post game: jump in car (strategically parked in the very North East area of the North Lot) and peel out (I'm not driving) and make way to Dagwoods. 6:00: Order some pizza or drummies at Dagwoods. 10:30: Head to El Roco, Rumors, or one of the many parties on around town Sunday: wish the football team had been out of town yesterday...oh and watch the Vikes win!

I can't beleive that you guys think GF should deny a casino simply because of the nickname. GROW UP! The casino would be great for GF, sure it is needed more by the tribe, but come on. I highly doubt that this reason (obviously never public) would come up in even the slightest instance.

Unfortunately, the beer gardens are on the concourse and you cannot see the game while drinking (stuupid in my opinion) There are tv's with an in house feed though showing the game. This area will be packed at halftime. The catwalk is fun when the ball is on your end, but when it's on the other end you should probably head to the fore-mentioned beer garden. Most groups set up South of the Alerus for tailgaiting. This is where the band and team will walk through. There will be plenty of people there so if you do just want to walk around and tailgate people will invite you right in. After the game few people stick around in the lot. Most get out as quick as possible. Head to Dagwoods to catch a heavily football attended crowd. You will catch coaches there and UND administration. Head to Rumors at the Grand Cities Mall (formerly South Forks Plaza, located at the intersection of Washington St. and 17th Ave.) later in the night to catch most of the players parents and younger football fans. You can always head to the El Roco later on to dance with those that are left standing. For a quieter, more elegant post-game head to Suite 49 (next to REA), or any other restaurant in town. Most restaurants will be pretty full before and after the game. There may be a wait. My advice, if you are with the family, would be to hustle over to the Green Mill. It will fill up quickly. BW3, Applebees, Ground Round, etc. are all good places to go with the fam too and will be pretty busy. Hope that helps.

Not sure why the Missouri AD would be talking about it. Not sure why any team from the Big 12 North would be considering it actually. Probably the weakest division of any major conference in years. By the looks of it Iowa State has the best team. The talk in the past was that there would be a higher division. A true 1A. Won't happen though. Not while we're alive.

I thought that the UND administration came out saying that they actually had NOT considered opening a downtown campus? I'm not so sure about opening one though anyway. Stores, restaurants, bars and housing would be the best bet in my book.

Wow, I've read some stupid stuff since yesterday. Kids and parents cannot influence the outcome of a game. What? How can you say that? Many of these parents raise their children with the "you were right" attitude. Many times after a game when we would lose parents would go up to their kids and tell them that it was the coaches fault, or that it was the refs fault. Never would they tell their kid that he was in fault. Or else the parent would blast a coach in front of everyone else. If the kid thinks he's right and smarter then the coach then he will not try as hard when the coach tells him to do something. Leads into parents telling coaches how to call a game. Bobyck seems like he will be one of those parents one day as he is complaining about a third and long call. I'm sure you've made a lot of tough 3rd and long decisions in your college football game for playstation, but have you ever called a real game? Have you ever scouted a real game? Have you ever even coached at all? Then please don't judge other coaches calls. It's easy when you are sitting at home isn't it, hell, we'ld all be 16-0 and win the Super Bowl if we could just get our chance! When Bobyck brought up the reason that coaches have left, here they are. King-new job, didn't have time to coach Peterson-parents grinding him and dragging his name through the mud (most notably a high profile old football coach and his wife) Manausa(sp)-left for position with UND I wouldn't say they left because they were losing. Peterson made the playoffs twice in his 4 years.

If that curse that you talk of is kids not playing football and parents of players stepping out of line, then sure you can blame it on that. No, but you can't put the blame on the coaches. How can you say it was the coaches fault when 4 different guys, all good coaches before or since, came in and couldn't solidify the program? Just doesn't make sense.

Like I've said before the only blame that should fall on the coaches is the fact that there have been too many. The coaches who have been there have all been smart football guys. It goes to the tradition and history factor. If Vern can stick around for a while and win some games kids will start to believe in the program. It wasn't too long ago that RR was fighting for playoff positions year in and year out. And like Old School said, there was the EDC championship not long ago. Since that championship, there have been 4 coaches. That's a lot of coaches in that amount of time. The assistant coaches have changed at an even higher rate. Central, on the other hand, has had the same top 4 guys there for almost 30 years. The system may be tweeked a bit from class to class but basically it stays the same. RR is constantly changing systems and coaches. That is not the way to solidify a program. Like I said, hopefully Vern will stay around and get the program back to a more stable one. One that wins will be nice too!

Actually, Potulny played at RR for 2 seasons. Split time as the starting QB his sophomore year. Irmen is a stretch though. I'm not saying wether the school produced the athlete, just where they attended school. Baseball players learn most of their game outside of high school in the legion programs, but I would still consider them RR or Central kids.

Base can keep tankers until 2011. Any other news? here's the story Is this that big of a deal?

I meant it is not growing in terms of population. There are houses being built out south, but people aren't moving to town.

Yeah, it's easy to say that we need this and this and this and people would go there, but who wants to put money into it with pretty empty promises. The town really isn't growing too much and people haven't gone downtown in the past. It would be really hard for me to put my money into something down there. If someone else will do it I'll be happy though. My wish list for downtown: 2 more locally owned bars, one smaller and one larger Movie theater locally owned restaurants, not chains Six Flags over the Red River (ok that's a stretch)

Kauker must have been about that grade wasn't he? He is 36 now, if I'm not mistaken.

Fairly recent? You and Rip Van Winkle been hanging out? Just kidding, but how many female athletes has this town produced? I remember when GF would dominate the state in female throwing events and a lot of that had to do with Pat Peake and Tim Tandeski and the Quicksilver track club. Is that club even around anymore? Katie Wilson from RR also through at Louisville for one year before going to SCSU.

I really think that it would be great to get the downtown area into the bar area like it used to be. Whiteys, CooCoos, Edge, Babylon, then get a few more down there. It just sucks having to go from one bar to another without walking. If you could concentrate it in one area it would help. That probably isn't what the city wants though. As for the condos, I'm not sure that there really are more needed. With everything that is currently being built by the Betty and all those south of 32nd and on King's Walk there is quite a bit of housing out there already. I wouldn't mind living downtown though, be kind of cool.

This is a pretty good list for a town of under 50,000. Most are obviously hockey, but still, that is a lot of DI athletes, and there are sure to be many more added to the list.
