SIOUX Recruits - 2008-09 Updates, Monitoring Their Junior League Play
Just Curious replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Reading more, it sounds like his coach is a little mad about the decision (ok, he is down right angry) and puts some of the blame on UND. Personally, I think that Forbort made the better choice, especially with the team becoming a full member of the USHL this next year. Forbort will play more games against better competition. His production and draft rankings may suffer, but I am sure his play will benefit. The coach is probably just made at losing his best guy and worrying about his teams ability next year. -

According to a link on CHN, Forbort has joined the Development team. There is a link on CHN to the Duluth paper, but I don't have an account with the paper and can't get the connection to work. Does any one else have any info on this?? Nevermind, finally got the account to work. Forbort leaves Duluth East to join the US U-18 National Development Team, citing that he wanted to be better prepared for his time at UND. http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/event/article/id/117757/ -

Bruneteau was scheduled to come in this year, had he not had a concussion he would have been here (and maybe Toews would have played juniors). I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised with his play. He should turn out to be a solid two-way player. He may not have the offensive upside to the degree some of the other recruits do, but he is putting up good numbers on a horrible team this year. He won't be first line, but I would think he would be a good 2nd or 3rd liner in a year or two. He will be at UND next year, otherwise I think UND risks losing him to another team. -

That is why I asked, I was worried he hurt himself again. He can't afford to go through post concussion syndrome again, we will never see him in green and white. -

Does the USHL hand out 1 game suspensions after a fighting major?? Des Moines is only skating 14 players tonight and Bruneteau is out. I wonder if its a suspension or if Parise scratched a bunch of players to send a message. -

Nice little read about Kristo. Helps with the argument that he could/should have come in this year. http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1200...;u_sid=10601796 -

You have the wrong Matt White. The UND recruit plays for Des Moines. He is not putting up as much numbers, but he is younger. 50 gp, 9g 8a, 17 pts. UND's recruit is bigger as well, 6'2" 195 lbs, compared to under 6'' and 170 lbs. -

When I said small, I was referring to weight. On the wiki on this website he is listed at 5' 11" 155 lbs., on the USHL site he is listed at 6'0" 175 lbs. He is most likely somewhere in between those weights. His height is fine, I would be concerned that he wasn't big enough weight wise to compete in the corners in the WCHA. I would bet he puts on another 10 lbs. of muscle over the summer. -

I don't think Kristo had the size to step in this year. He has speed to spare, but he is quite small and I think this extra year of play at the junior level and his increased international experience will turn out to be a much better plan of action. -
For those of you who are interested, the 'Oshied' shirts are now available to order online. Its a shirt company based in St. Louis, so I have no idea about their reputation, but I figured at least a few of you would be interested enough to give it a try. http://www.rinawear.com/

I realize that Des Moines is a bad team this year and is defensively weak. There goalie Crandall has really slipped since last year (hence lost his scholly at Wisconsin), but was just inquiring about Brunteau to see if it was his play that earned him the -4 of if it was just a consequence of playing on a bad team. He has had moments of brillance this year regardless of his teammates. I am wondering what you thought of Gleason, as his offensive numbers have really fallen off and his +/- is usually pretty bad?? Thanks for the info -

According to the game stats on USHL.com, White did not play on Sunday. I am not sure who has it wrong, but watching the stats on USHL, I have noticed White has not been listed the last 3-4 games. Also, I would like some more detail on Bruneteau, as he is listed as being -4 for the game, worst +/- on the team. -
Any word if UND is looking at Brett's brother Matt (Bruneteau (sp))? USHL has focused alot on him lately, namely b/c he is the first Nebraska native to play for Lincoln, but he seems like a decent d-man. Not huge ( 5'11", 195) but comes with some good work ethic.
-
Anybody else having trouble with the Sioux-xtra website?? It is really slow and won't load the event for me.
-
Maybe its a typo and it should read UND, not UMD............... ah, that's just a pipedream.
-
That is actually the reason I tend to listen to the rumors he posts about MJs. I know he isn't a big fan of the NCAA, but I also know he spends WAY too much time online finding out all the details about Canadian Major Junior hockey, so its a good source to find out about those leagues and players.
-
More rumors on Morin going to MJ's and not NCAA. Also, it appears Fowler has de-committed to ND. http://theworldofjuniorhockey.blogspot.com/ (May not be permanent link, may have to scroll down)

I don't have a link, but there was an article earlier this year about the short list of free agent defensemen in the college ranks. The article didn't mention or focus on Genoway, but with his solid numbers and performance, depending on the market this summer, there could be some offers. Also (this may have come from another thread), it would not surprise me if Zajac got an offer this year, or at least a tryout. He was invited to the Hawks camp last summer and with his improvements, there is a chance he could impress and get a contract. Again, I think both are long shots, but there is a chance for both of them.
-
If he broke the fibula to the extent that it looked and add the possibility that the tibia may have also fractured, he is looking at around 6 months before he even starts walking on his own. There is a chance he could be ready to go for next year, but it depends on how bad the break(s) are and where they occurred. If they have to put in pins and plates, it could be a long road back.
-
I would agree. While I am sure Wisconsin would love to have him, they would have to find room and I am sure Olsen wants to be able to step into a program where he gets ice time right off the bat. That would be tough at UW.

Great quote!! -
Any word on if Schack is going to get an extended suspension??
-
Those of you who are still regretting him not coming, you can also take solice in the fact that his team is relocating and he won't be that close to home anymore, so that whole plan back-fired on him.

I know this is going to get shelled as just wanting local boys on UND's team, but has anyone heard of any interest in Jake LaDouceur or any other ND players over the next 2-3 years? LaDouceur is having a great year and is still a Jr., so in 2-3 years he, if he still progresses, he would be a nice pick up.
