  1. Women won big tonight against Minnesota St.
  2. Swyg said during the Mary broadcast that O.J. was absent because his daughter was "extremely ill". He also missed the USD game. Any word on what is going on there? My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
  3. Before the NCC season started, I was thinking we were capable of going 4-2 or even 5-1 at home, and then probably 3-3 or 2-4 on the road. After listening to the first two games and being at the USD game, I'm wondering if we'll win more than 2 more games all year.
  4. November 8th is the date of the Southern Utah game. Link
  5. slulionsfan, Is it solid that the UND-SELU game is only a one game deal? SLC teams seem to like home-and-home deals. I can't imagine UND going all the way down there for nothing in return, and SELU doesn't seem like the type of school that would pay much of guarantee to a school like UND.
  6. I came across this post on the McNeese St. board. It lists all of the "tentative" schedules for the Southland Conference teams so far. It shows Southeastern Louisiana AT North Dakota on October 11. A poster later in the thread stated that UND would indeed be at SELU next year. No mention of UND on McNeese's schedule, although there were still 3 open dates left. The same post indicates that UND will travel to Northwestern St. in 2009.
  7. You tell us. I thought it was Chapman & Taylor telling everybody that NDSU was a shoe-in for the Big Sky.
  8. The ladies looked utterly confused when South Dakota implemented the full court press.
  9. Knowing who the administrators/moderators are over at BS, I'd bet there is still two-three times more BS going on there even with less traffic.
  10. I think everyone understands why the limited GWFC schedule could happen next year, can't fault the CA schools for putting themselves in the best position possible to make the playoffs. This article from early December indicated that we'd play all the GWFC schools. Apparently something has changed since then.
  11. I have no idea. I guess I just meant that women's hockey is a better fit in Grand Forks, ND than baseball. We have a hockey culture here both at the school and the city/region, the surrounding region produces high quality players, and all the collegiate national women's hockey powers are all close to us for similar reasons as those, (UofM, UM-Duluth, Wisconsin). I just think that pieces are in place for women's hockey to be successful someday. I can't say the same thing about baseball.
  12. vs. North Dakota (11-6, 0-2) vs. #8 South Dakota (15-1, 0-1) Gametime is Saturday, Jan 19. Women start at 2:30, Men at 4:30-ish. Game is on TV on FSSN. Sioux Audio & Video Coyote Audio & Video UND Game Notes USD Game Notes USD Message Board South Dakota leads the NCC in scoring defense, scoring margin, FG%, 3-pt FG%, rebounding margin, blocked shots, assists, and offensive rebounds. Key Players for USD: 6-6 Jr. Dylan Grimsley: 15.7 ppg, 5.7 rpg, leads NCC in 3-pt FG% 6-6 Sr. Eric Hall: 12.4 ppg, 5.7 rpg 6-8 So. Tyler Cain: 8.9 ppg, 7.4 rpg (5th NCC), leads NCC in FG% and Blocks (averages 4 more per game than the next guy!) This is obviously a very big team and an extremely difficult match-up for the Sioux. I assume that Emmanual Little will be guarding Dylan Grimsley, and that is one even match-up for UND. The best chance the Sioux have to win is if Grimsley can be contained, and if they can keep Tyler Cain off of the offensive boards (Benter and Lenhertz will be busy with that, but they may actually match up well there too). USD is also withouth their starting point guard due to injury, who was averaging 4 assists per game.
  13. I just watched the Sioux Boosters Luncheon video from last Friday, and Coach Mussman was asked about the schedule (again). He said UND has 8 games scheduled for 2008, and 9 games scheduled for 2009. The 8 games for this upcoming season would seem to contradict what we've all been talking about and what is in the wiki. It is sounding more and more like we will end up not playing a full GWFC schedule after all, like SloStang said, no Cal Poly? I wonder who the non-conference games for '09 are? I believe the Idaho St. deal is for a home-and-home. Also assume that SELU probably is too? Certainly will be another DII on the schedule I'd guess.
  14. Apples to oranges don't you think? The big difference between Women's hockey and baseball is that women's hockey actually has upside and potential. We have an excellent facility for the sport, and the university is located in a region of the country (and near Canada) that is conducive to producing high end talent. North Dakota or the University can't say either of those two things regarding baseball. And those sunny afternoons are few and far between during the heart of the college baseball season in March and April.
  15. Dropping baseball would go a long way toward keeping things balanced Title IX wise as well once we start ramping up football scholarships as well. Trying to field a college baseball team in this climate in which the bulk of the the season is played in March and April is a wasted effort IMO. We had 15 games cancelled due to weather last season, 11 of which were to be played in either the Dakotas or Northern Minnesota. We ended up playing just 9 home games and 29 away games. Since the English Coulee thaws out about the same time that you can play baseball in Northern North Dakota, it would make just as much sense for UND to have a rowing team as it does for them to have baseball.
  16. The somewhat limited support for Lacrosse (mine included) arguing that it could "bring in crowds", just means that it could generate some sort of revenue. Not hockey, or football, or basketball revenue, but just some sort of revenue. Baseball generates no revenue at all. In this climate, we are lucky if we can have 15-20% of our games at home, and that might even be optimistic. The North Dakota environment does not entice very many quality baseball players to want come here where they can't swing a bat outside year-round, hence we will rarely be very competetive. Nobody suggested dropping a whole bunch of the non-revenue sports. They and the student-athletes that participate in them all have their place, and UND has thrived in many of them such as Swimming & Diving, Women's tennis, women's golf, and track & field to an extent. But baseball generates zero-buzz, zero-interest, zero-revenue, and realistically can have zero-success in this state/climate. Money would be better spent toward an entirely different men's program, or simply cut it, and invest those funds into existing women's programs and/or other non-revenue sports, regardless of gender.
  17. UND 84 Mary 70 Final Excellent second half by UND!
  18. 33 points off the bench for the Sioux tonight
  19. Youmens hasn't played very much, if at all, in the 2nd half.
  20. Lenhertz has a career-high 9 points. UND leads by 17 4:30
