  1. I don't care if the Off Coord is from present staff, from in the program or outside the program. I care that we do what is best for the program. Danny certainly has had enough time and experience to know what this team needs. Former QB's tend to want to be creative and open things up. Danny was one of the best in D2 in his day. He has the potential to be a head coach some day. There isn't much room for error obviously. Good luck to these guys.
  2. I never asked for credentials as such. There are a lot of posts that we all make, myself included, that people wonder where the poster is coming from. His was detailed and I was curious.
  3. It does and no I don't give a rat's behind about degrees. Paper is cheap, experience isn't. I was curious.
  4. This is the problem. Too many folks waste time and energy worrying about "getting behind" a logo when we should be more concerned about getting behind the athletic teams. The old logo was fine, the new logo is fine. I couldn't care less. It will likely evolve over time and that is fine. Wear whatever you prefer, but the constant debate and criticism of those who prefer the former logos or those who want to move on with the new logo is detrimental to UND as a University and to our athletic teams. Wear whatever logo you wish and quit whining about how UND reached this point or what someone else wants to wear.
  5. What is all of this based on??? What is your experience with these athletes and what is your area of expertise? Other than we want everyone of our athletes to be stronger and faster what is the basis for recommending adding or subtracting weight for these individuals? I'm not saying you are wrong or right I'm just asking.
  6. He didn't do well at all. Threw off wrong foot into traffic multiple times. Picked 4 times. Looked very average. He is still a very good athlete that I think can play and if not QB at another position but anyone watching him today wouldn't be impressed. Too bad for him. The Suggs kid is an outstanding athlete. Announcers said he visited Alabama and Notre Dame but is an NBA talent in BB. Fun kid to watch.
  7. Probably the same reason no one offered Thielen or Schobert. I don't know that he hasn't been offered by other programs but he is also a very good BB player. I would think at least the D2 programs have offered.
  8. The Dirksen kid from Willmar ran for over 130 yds and a TD and threw for 2 TDs in their 44-0 win vs Hermantown last week in the quarter finals. Last night he ran for 90 yds and 3 TD's and threw for 4 TDs in their 62-20 against St. Paul Johnson. I watched part of game replay on Star Tribune web site.
  9. Says who???
  10. I would scholarship the kid and get him locked down but we already have a highly touted QB from Nebraska committed.
  11. Although for the most part being a veteran doesn't give veterans the right to anything other than holding their heads a little higher when the flag passes and sometimes tearing up during the the national anthem when former brothers or sisters in arms are remembered, I'm not sure what John W's message was, nor do the rest of you. If I had to guess, and my guess is as good as anyone else's, I would think this person included that as a preface to sharing why the issue bugs him. Most of us old enough to be Vietnam Vets attended UND during a time when no one cared about the nickname. For most of us, it became important when the NCAA and activists began the process of taking it away. For me, it was the. Ben Brien logo which I didn't wish to lose. My ties and loyalty to UND are strong. My ties and respect for my country are stronger and regardless of my veterans status I have never liked people yelling home of the Sioux, but I don't lose sleep over it because it isn't meant to be disrespectful to our nation nor those who bravely served. I dislike the ignorant morons who yell "who's he he sucks sh.." when opponents are introduced more than the "Home of the Sioux" at the end of the Anthem. The "he sucks Sh.." chant is meant to be disrespectful, shows such a lack of class and doesn't require any cleverness (which the great college cheers and jeers usually have). To John W. , your uncle, the Nam Vets you refer to and other Veterans, thanks for your service. To those who stayed home and farmed, or worked in factories, or did their jobs and payed taxes to support the military thank you. To the family members who raised kids, or supported family members and friends while their loved ones served, thanks. We all do are part.
  12. Get the QB from Willmar. If he doesn't play QB he can play safety.
  13. Mike is a fund raiser and works with the Athletic Department and the Alumni Assn. From everything I have seen and heard he is doing a very good job. He has some great connections and is well liked. I hope that explains things. The people in these positions have a very difficult job and the connections are an important factor.
  14. Bright gal.
  15. I don't disagree with you. I don't care where the coach comes from. Familiarity with the region, community, program, personnel etc is a factor that should be considered. It should not be the most important factor, nor the deciding factor. As you say, that ship has sailed.
  16. Of course that was considered. It should have been considered. It should not have been the deciding factor.
  17. You do realize the GOBC is some guys who are self proclaimed insiders. I don't believe in the tooth fairy but I used to get money if I lost a tooth and put it under my pillow. Santa and Bunny are real and have more influence than the GOBC here and everywhere. The GOBC folks will be able to chat with decision makers if they donate a few thousand each year but then the decision makers move on, laugh about some of the stupid things they just heard and move on. If you want the bartender to change the big screen to your game talk to the GOBC. If you want to influence UND and the athletic department you need at least 8 figures and then you better now what you are talking about. Sanford offered an initial $10 million with a promise for more for the exclusive Sports Med rights and UND passed. Keep that in mind before you believe a few thousand a year gets you a "seat in the board room".
  18. If you don't, know don't email. Speak from your heart and tell him what you think. Doesn't matter what any of the rest of us think. Your opinion is as valid as any of the rest of us.
  19. Right.
  20. That is just as inaccurate as the baloney people claimed about hiring Hakstol cuz O'Keefe was his father-in-law. Lowell obviously supported Bubba, but Lowell doesn't have that authority nor power. There were a lot of people who supported Bubba including former players, coaches and boosters. Doesn't matter right now, what matters is whether or not Bubba is the guy to continue to lead the program. I have stated my opinion. State yours, but leave the guys family out of it. Stick to the task at hand. Comments on whether or not you want coaching changes make sense, but this kind of stuff will get everyone sidetracked.
  21. No he won't.
  22. Gundy, Your info on the concussion isn't accurate. I pulled his helmet and have never pulled a helmet for a kid who complained of anything for 2 seconds. We utilize a strict concussion protocol similar to that used at colleges and the pros across the country. Our athletic trainer will come in on weekends to start the protocol as soon as possible once an athlete is symptom free. He is also going to be cautious because we had at the youth athletic level who repeatedly was returned to play and who did not have proper concussion management and lost his last year and one half of contact sports because he has what appear to be permanent cognitive deficits. One of my former teammates, who was arguably the best linebacker in UND's history, is now in a nursing home. No high school athletic event is that important. The 240 lb DE end could have compromised his chances to play in the next game had he played and got hit in the head again. It is tempting for medical staff to send kids who seem fine back to soon because we want them to be able to play and we want their teams to be successful. I agree the game might have been different with our DE playing. We are obligated to follow a strict protocol in order to protect the athletes. It protects the athletes and it protects the school from litigation. I also agree our RB who ran for over 1600 yds playing in just over half of our games this year is a kid to watch as is our QB and our kicker. All 3 kids need to continue to develop and physically mature. Bubba is aware of all 3 of them. I semt him a note on the Willmar QB and they were aware of him but said they would take another look.
  23. You raise a key point. Although I don't believe for a moment he is clueless, but when we struggle repeatedly in an assistants area, why does he still believe that coach is the best one to help our program.
  24. Good question, but I bet 7-4 and beat NDSU we are in the playoffs
  25. I don't think hockey has ever been run like family business. How many people wanted Hakstol fired. He was one of the most successful coaches in college hockey. He was recognized by his peers, his players and NHL coaches and executives. How many rubes wanted Berry gone when we started 0-2-1? Some people don't seem to understand that you can be a good coach and still have ups and downs. UND football is run like any other business. The speed by which we are moving to our goal of perennial playoff participation and championships are limited by our financial resources just like any other business. Good corporations make all of the resources available for their employees to be successful, then mentor them and support them. They don't fire someone every time there is a setback. We took our first step by winning the Big Sky Championship. We have had a setback last year and this year. Now the executives need to evaluate, step in, mentor and make sure the staff has all of the resources to continue to move the program in the right direction and be successful. We have made smaller strides this year than I would have liked but a lot of people predicted 7-4 at best. 7-4 isn't good enough anymore but unless you think we are prepared to start the 5 year cycle all over then although you may be right, I believe we should stay the course. How long depends on the rest of this year, recruiting, positive changes within the program including staff and additional resources. As fans we need to be part of the solution and many of us are trying to do that but believe me, I and others are just as frustrated if not more than you and others.
