Great for the other bubble teams around them. No way OSU gets past MSU, PSU, or Michigan

2025-26 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

Where did you get that host info from? The NCAA's own website states Union as the host, rather than the conference. As for the rest, I know there has been a lot of back and forth about regional attendance and I'm certainly not privy to all the arguments, but you'd be hard pressed to get 15,000 at any eastern regional. Many eastern schools don't even have student bodies that touch that number, and that's before you even get to alumni bases and other potential avenues of fan attendance along with on-campus attendance decline trends. Since Albany was mentioned, let's think about potential attendance there. The biggest pulls would be Cornell (large traveling contingent and heavy alumni base in NYC with good representation throughout upstate NY and New England) and Quinnipiac (proximity and alumni base concentrated in NYC and Connecticut) as far as teams that should be in the tournament. Beyond that, it's a crapshoot given the lack of HEA teams, and all other tournament teams being farther away, so good luck even coming close to that 15,000 number. -

ECAC schools have certainly hosted. In fact, Union is the host in Albany this year and Brown has hosted at Providence in the past. -
With tonight's results, the NCHC for sure won't have any bid stealers and I'd be surprised if the Big 10 has any. I'd say any team 12 or above is pretty safe as far as an at-large bid
-
There's a very real chance they miss the NCAA's and Greg Brown suddenly finds himself on the hot seat. HEA playoffs are single elimination games so if they lose after this weekend (let alone their remaining regular season game tomorrow), they're probably done.
-
He already even has a brown tie. Was that orchestrated or AI? 🤔 Hopefully none of you ever have to experience a game at the morgue that is Meehan Auditorium. Providence is a great mid-sized city with fantastic restaurants and the area around Brown is very nice, but watching a hockey there in person is an underwhelming experience

22 compared to 19 for Cornell, so not very far off, and aside from 2017, most of those appearances in the past two decades have been one and done under Donato (with many unambiguous losses). That said, being in the Boston metro area and being Harvard offers a significant receuiting advantage which puts them in that 2nd tier. And only Ivy to win a title in the last 50 years? I find it hard to believe any UND fan has already forgotten about Yale's 2013 run, although I can't blame any for doing so ðŸ«
-
Harvard is not even the best Ivy. Cornell has much more of a claim than them, especially recently. UNH is tough because they've been bad the past decade but a lot of that is due to macroeconomic factors out of the institution's control. However, they've very much lost their way compared to the blue bloods of BU and BC and obviously Maine and PC. Quinnipiac should also be in that second tier conversation given their history and the recruiting advantages they have compared to other ECAC schools. That said, the question then becomes how well they would do without Pecknold behind the bench.

I almost feel like this would be a stepping stone job for most of these guys. Ford is interesting because while it seems like he'd be going backwards given his current and more recent positions in the AHL and NHL, he's the only Brown alumnus on that list. One would also think that any of these guys would want some comfort about the kind of support they'd be getting from the Brown administration given the recent history of that program.
-
A lot of talk about BU underachieving and rightfully so, but BC has been doing the same with their talent IMO. To be fair, Merrimack is a well coached team that plays hard, but still
-
At least Brown got a goal when they were blown out yesterday. The bottom of the ECAC is truly horrid but Yale has been bad for quite a few years now
-
I'm guessing you haven't met too many PSU alums. There are some good people for sure but that school attracts a lot of morons or poor decision makers throughout Pennsylvania, too.
-
Harvard getting their usual Beanpot beatdown will be amusing but I'm more intrigued by the NU-BU game between two teams that generally don't like each other
-
I very much agree that Whittet has been in the role for way too long and he probably would've had that job as long as he wanted anyway since the Brown administration could care less about hockey, but very unfortunate way to be leaving the head coach job.

https://brownbears.com/news/2026/1/28/whittet-steps-away-from-mens-ice-hockey-program Brown getting a new head coach. Per the folks at USCHO, someone in his family was affected by cancer.

The Tim Duncan defense

Fun game given the bench clearing brawl that happened last year. I just wish Cornell was able to do it in regulation.

#2 UND @ #34 CC - 2nd half NCHC Grind begins!

OT results are always less impactful than ones in regulation. If a team loses, it's much better to do so in OT as far as NPI is concerned and even better if it's on the road. -
Screw BU. They could revel in mediocrity for the next five years as far as I'm concerned. Their issue is lack of heart and discipline, not talent
-
It also helps that they lost on the road. As we already know with Dartmouth (who was swept at Princeton and Quinnipiac this weekend), road losses aren't as bad as ones at home
-
And they roll into Lynah for two next weekend. Speaking of which, Cornell leads Omaha 2-1 headed into the 2nd
-
It should've never been close. Credit to Omaha for being tenacious throughout the game
-
3-0 Cornell now. Looks like two teams in completely different stratospheres
-
Going undefeated for a lot of games holds much weight. Also, it helps that the ECAC hasn't been downright awful in OOC play this year
-
UNH did a very good job outmuscling and outhustling Dartmouth most of the game and had a face-off advantage for a while. UNH got lucky with the breakaway at the end but well deserved win and many other teams will probably try to emulate them when it comes to shutting down Dartmouth's offense.
