Wisconsin can still land blue chip players and has recently. They still have staying power. A nice arena. The floor at bluebloods is much higher than most other programs. But I don't disagree they care less than other bluebloods. As for Michigan, nobody in here denies they are a great program. Lots of tradition, what looks like a historic arena, a commitment to winning, passionate alums/fans.
-
Realistically I see all these bluebloods being able to compete in NIL at some fashion. I mentioned in my most some others that could emerge...Michigan State, Penn State, Notre Dame, heck maybe ASU But who else is going to emerge with NIL? most of the non blue bloods are small schools.
-
Does anyone have the history on why Wisconsin is the least successful blue blood YET the program UND has struggled against the most (ie record)? I know Wisconsin plays a very defensive style and maybe UND never matched up well against them.
-
Do we agree this is the list? By bluebloods, consistent success, good facilities, good coaching, history of guys making NHL. After each, I put, UND's record vs them. - North Dakota - Michigan - [42-48-4] - Denver - [161-138-16] - Wisconsin - [73-87-13]. As a side note, it surprises me how BAD UND's record is vs Wisconsin. Essentially the worst winning percentage UND has against the bluebloods even though Wisconsin is the weakest of these 7. - Minnesota - [137-145-16] - Boston University - [15-14-2] - Boston College - [12-11-1] I think Maine, Michigan State, Cornell, Harvard, UNH, and Michigan Tech miss the list. Going forward, Michigan State, Penn State, Notre Dame may be relevant on the level of the blue blood but without the history. I'm curious too how people view each blue blood. I tend to hear the most animosity from UND fans for Minnesota (rivalry), Michigan (arrogance, not scheduling UND), and BC. Maybe a little less so for Wisconsin (recently), Denver, and BU.

yeah Michigan band is so annoying. They play the fight song 20 times a period even when there are so many good songs they could play.
-
UMD gives off little brother energy way too much. Whiny play by play guys. Players that dive and cheap shot others. Fans that talk a lot of !@#$. They need to start acting like they've been there before. For all those reasons, keep Denver ahead of UMD.

Pionk. 1:06 mark of video.
-
I remember when a UMD player literally ran into our goalie during the NCHC tournament. It was one of the most blatant cheap shots I've ever seen.
-
Amsoil (and maybe western) seems to be the only other good NCHC atmosphere outside of UND. SCSU - boring Miami - lame CC - snooze Denver - underwhelming Omaha - meh
-
Doesn't Omaha consider UND their biggest rival?
-
but as older people die off, it seems inevitable. We have young people today who weren't really around for UND/MN.
-
What's it going to take for Denver to pass Minnesota on the rivalry list? I feel like they have been inching up over the years.
-
How would you rank UND's rivals? It feels to me like: 1a. Minnesota 1b. Denver 3. UMD / Wisconsin ? 4. ? Others I thought of: SCSU, Omaha, BC, BU
-
good thing the NCHC tournament is gone. Couldn't imagine how this team would continue the tradition of flaming out at the X.
-
some UND fans consider them our peer in the NCHC that is also somewhat likable. But I always remember Gwoz throwing his hands up in games and im pretty sure he ran across the ice once and got thrown out.
-
this is probably an unpopular opinion but F Denver.
-
Who is "they?' And what is your source for this assertion?
-
im sick of the "Michigan won't travel" stuff. They literally traveled to SCSU for a series. They've been to Duluth. They regularly go to the east coast. Its on our coaches to build relationships with these other programs. But I guess we can make excuses while ignoring the obvious that our coaches sandbag the NC schedule with a bunch of no-names.
-
Doesn't Denver not really have a great fanbase though? That's the one thing I'm worried about.

is Magness Arena worth visiting?

Nonconference Schedule Now and in Future under new leadership

get BSU off the schedule. This is my annual rant. This could be a series against MSU, BU, BC, Michigan. And instead we pick BSU! -
2025-26 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

Am I the only who who has noticed a lot of teams will mock the UND fan finger point in air thing (when Chelsea Dagger is played) when they score against? I've seen a lot of teams doing it the last few years (both in the NCHC and out of conference). -
Series Excitement for Me: Super Excited 1. Minnesota 2. Denver 3. BC/BU/Wisconsin/Maine/Michigan State/Michigan (if we would ever play them) Pretty Excited 4. UMD Meh to Not Excited 5. Rest of NCHC (with Miami & Omaha literally the least interesting of the rest) 6. Bemidji

Gopher hockey podcast lamenting Mariucci and Kohl Center being too big. Meanwhile, UND is selling out the Ralph still. I don't know the right size for a college hockey arena but they should have tipped their cap to UND. We will see if UND can keep filling the Ralph.
