Im confused. First a coach is hired without any attempt at an external search. Then an assistant coach is hired over a more than capable coach without even being interviewed?
I have no clue, I think I liked johnson's very close connections to the USHl and his likeability amongst players and potential recruits. Not to mention that the guy was dying to get back to grand forks (not that that is a good reason to hrie somebody).
I would imagine somebody who is currently active in coaching would get preference, depending on their experience.
With all these names, it might be awhile before we find out who the coach is. When was the last time this much interest was generated in an ASSISTANT coach search!
He had a better year in 2002-2003. The reason why he didnt surpass his 02-03 stats was because of the HORRIBLE slump he went into at the end of the year.
amen.. you never really know what the season is going to look like until you are WELL into it. Look at the gophers last year, the gophers in 2003 when they won it all, denver last year, UMD the last couple of years. You just never know.
You heard it here first... UND will contend for the WCHA championship next year.
They may not be the favorite anymore, but I challenge you to find a team in the WCHA that will be better next year.
I seriously doubt the loss of one player can have that much of an impact. They still return quite a bit of depth on offense, but most importantly they return a very strong defense and goalie rotation.
