  1. He was kind of all of the place when talking about this. I find it hard to believe that he hasn’t heard rumblings, especially if people like Cam Robinson are talking about hearing whispers of UND silent commits. With that being said, he cannot really say anything more than he already has until something is announced. He’ll never say “I heard so and so is probably coming.” He did single out Carels towards the end stating that he is the only one of the four that is local.
  2. If the roster limits are raised next year, this could make the “who comes in next year” conversation easier. Going from 26 to 28/29 would create a lot more flexibility this offseason. Seems like a no brainer for the NCAA to make the change as well.
  3. I think they are using that as an excuse. Dinkytown Athletics pays plenty of money to football and basketball. For whatever reason, donors do not seem to dish out significant money to their hockey program. Creating a separate collective is great in theory, but they still have to convince donors to donate. He is taking the moral high ground and using it as an excuse, in my opinion. I doubt high end players care so much about their eligibility. If McKenna, Martone, etc. were deemed ineligible, they would just sign their ELCs and move on. That’s also if the NCAA wins the case, which they won’t. Also, if and when Motzko gets another year, he’s going to want to put all of his cards on the table. One more year like this and he’s out. If they have the money, they will spend it.
  4. Chances are UND already has an idea who is going to enter the portal (if any) and who is going to come in through the portal (if any). As it currently stands, I don’t think they add any forwards in the portal unless there is a “no brainer” that comes available. If they do lose a guy or two in the portal, things may change. I think there is a lot of trust with this core moving forward.
  5. This is the biggest CHL commitment in quite some time. I’m surprised this was announced during the season and it makes me wonder if the player wanted this to get out given it did not come from him. The floodgates will probably open up here in the next couple of months. This might mean that Prince George’s top defenseman is going NCAA as well…
  6. Michigan State does not currently have a goalie on their committed list and Augustine is going to be gone next year. Other than them, no idea.
  7. When doing his recruiting list this summer, Schloss was asking around about some of the defenseman on the NTDP U17 team. One scout said “You haven’t even asked about the best one yet.” That being Beck Thoreson. There is some room for interpretation on what exactly he meant by that. Diego will probably be a lottery pick in 2027. Speculating about where Beck will get drafted is premature. A lot can happen over the next couple of years. He’s still an exciting get for the future.
  8. He’s a bad skater for his size. I do not like his game at all. Just my opinion
  9. I would like to see Emery play in the top 4 over him.
  10. Homer is out of position a lot. It seems like spends a lot of time on the ice and sells out quite a bit on initial shots. Three of the four goals last night weren’t really his fault but his play style makes me uneasy at times. Spunar looks like he is in control at all times.
  11. Since that money goes to the school initially, it would be part of their revenue sharing. Since revenue sharing is capped at $20.5, there isn’t much revenue sharing money left over for hockey programs once football and basketball have gotten their share.
  12. I listened to the GPL podcast last week and there are serious concerns about their ability to pay players. Gopher hockey is an afterthought for revenue sharing and their collective is virtually nonexistent.
  13. Minnesota is so far gone right now. As bad as this year is, they could lose Ziemer and will lose Lamb and Mittlestadt. They also have a mediocre freshman class coming in. As a team that doesn’t really take transfers or CHL players, I don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. Fitzhenry and Schneider still being uncommitted is very telling as well. If they don’t land at least one of them they’ll be in serious trouble.
  14. It could have been either way, probably was a penalty though. Seeing that ASU also committed a major during that review probably made it easier for them to call.
  15. If the player’s hand grabs the facemask or rubs it, then it’s a major penalty. If he “stiff arms” the opposing player in the face like Kernan did, it will likely be a minor penalty. I believe it is either a major penalty or no penalty at all on a challenge. Definitely wasn’t major but he could’ve received a minor if it was called without a review.
  16. Anyone else see Emery counting how many goals they scored on his hand to an ASU fan after the game?
  17. Love the announcer chuckling after Waldron has a blatant trip
  18. I honestly think ASU has gotten the better whistle this game. You’d think ASU didn’t spend half of the second period on the powerplay the way these announcers are talking.
  19. Looked like Kernan just stuck his glove out in his face. These announcers need to grow a pair, holy smokes.
  20. It looked like the ASU hit Kernan in the head after the whistle in real time
  21. Schloss was very complimentary of Beck Thoreson in this week’s podcast. As of right now, the plan is for him to be here for his draft year which would mean he is pretty high end. Still a long way to go but he is definitely a valuable piece for the future.
  22. Carels is local-ish as well. He is from about 3 hours away from Grand Forks. His sister plays a couple hours away at Jamestown. I would imagine that plays a role as well.
  23. Out of all of the defenseman drafted in 2025, zero were below 6 feet. Jake is 5’10” and 175lbs. He will still have the majority of teams calling this offseason. If he thinks or is told he will be a full time NHLer next season, he is gone. If not, I think there is a serious argument for him returning. Earnings wise, UND could make a somewhat competitive offer to what he would be getting in the AHL.
  24. Based off speculation, I would be really surprised if Carels was not one of them. Cam Robinson stated about 2 weeks ago that there are whispers around the World Juniors of a player(s) outside of McKenzie that will be going to UND. The list of unsigned or uncommitted guys at that tournament is relatively small, especially when you only consider players playing in the CHL. Carels is the only one with significant connections to UND. I anticipate they add a forward as well, preferably a right shot winger. Mathis Preston recently got traded in the WHL. From a distance, that looks like it was a deal that was made knowing that he is gone next year or that would potentially keep him in the WHL.
