  1. You gentlemen (the angry ones anyway) don't understand people and simple human behavior. I wasn't referring to myself. I drive right down South Washington, Columbia, whatever it takes. Don't get angry with me. If you like Grand Forks...enjoy it. I have. Lots of great people, a few great places, and you're near some good outdoor activities. It's a simple fact that there just isn't enough of a population base to support a thriving downtown at this time. Retail, white collar, condos, and nightlife. Not in our lifetime frankly. 1% population growth a year puts G.F. at 100K in about 50-70 years. Believe me...I won't be lookin' for a beer downtown at that time. None of us will. There's no suggestions in this thread. There never is. Soon it will degrade to G.F. is better than Fargo...UND is great, NDSU sucks. I threw my hat in the ring out of curiousity. I've discovered lots, and nothing. Go Sioux! I've got my season tickets...have forever. Hope to see you boys at a game. I'll be the one drivin' right down University and Washington with a lil' buzz from droppin' a few bucks at REA. There's less children on those streets at night!
  2. Dude...your naivete is so cute. FYI...home values differ across this amazing country of ours. A 300K home in my neighborhood is a shack...comparatively. A great home...but 2 notches up from a starter home none-the-less. Enjoy your home in the AZ 'burbs. Try a lil' neighborhood joint called The Olive Garden. I'm sure you'll love it. BTW...you forgot your specific suggestions for downtown. Oh I forgot...you're a www flamer. All criticism...no solutions.
  3. Not me! It's a general speculation (true BTW) why people who live on one end of town don't generally support night life on the other side of town. I can tell you have more expeiene with the internet flame thing than demographics, trends, and pop culture. That's cool...to each his own! What do you propose for downtown G.F. to get to that mythical, romantic, vision of boppin' around bar-hoppin' from spot to spot, enjoyin' this club here, that club there... Seriously...I'd like to hear it.
  4. I was referring to general trends regarding gentifrication. Not absolutes. It's a big country. What's true in some markets...will not always be the case nationally. Yes, it's a short drive across the metropolis of Grand Forks but, there's other issues. Like driving when you're liquored up...it's easier to drive through a couple of neighborhoods from your local strip mall bar, rather than across town for example. Regarding the "rocket science" comment...I was referring to the lack of population in G.F. when I was referring to the inactivity downtown. Not the gentfrication issue. Where I live, the taxes on my home with a market value of 350K is a thousand bucks. In Grand Forks taxes would be 7G. If you want to live in Grand Forks AND pay the taxes, that's cool with me. Nothin' against it. To each his own.
  5. Newsflash for you Mr. Cratter. You've got 15 year old info. Maybe it's still that way in G.F. But, that's not the direction that the rest of the country is going. Look up gentrification in a dictionary. People don't want to commute anymore and spend all that time away from their families (not to mention gas prices), large spread out neighborhoods with no social interaction promote screwed up kids, people don't want to pay taxes on a bigass yards anymore when there's a beautiful park one block away. The weakness of downtown is largely a function of not enough of a population base. Sad but true. Not rocket science BTW.
  6. I know the answer to your question. But maybe you should ask the guy from Branigans.
  7. I don't think the Stillwater comparison works at all. Look at the population #'s in a 45 minute radius...then look at Grand Forks. No comparison. If there were those #'s...it would already be a done deal.

Grand Forks needs to cut the cord with Canad and tell them to take a hike.
  10. Kobe's incident was in near Vail 2.5 hours from Englewood. BTW...the victim, Kate Lynn Farber, was shopping for BMW's the next day. Hmmm.
  11. Metro State, with its poor fan following, is the worst-case North Central representative. FYI. Metro is a non-traditional college located right smack dab downtown Denver. There is no on-campus living and the average student age is much older than traditional colleges/universities. Last statistic I heard was 26 years old. I don't follow their BB program. They do have a very good record of success given the fact their primay focus is education and they don't use athletics as a draw card for enrollment. Just wanted to point that out.
  12. REA a raucous and rowdy environment? I don't see it.
  13. On second thought...maybe I don't want to know the mexi recipe/ingredients.
  14. Anyone know the "secret ingredient" that allows the taco meat to be spreadable? I do. Just wondering if it's a "secret". I'd be interested in knowing the Mexiburger recipe if anyone feels like givin' it up. I'm hungry!
  15. If anybody's watching or listening, can I get a Central-R.R. update please. Thanks.
  16. Oops...The Campus Lounge is on Univ. and Exposition. I'd call ahead to make sure they're carrying the games.
  17. Check out the Campus Lounge on Virginia and University and Choppers on Madison in Cherry Creek. The Campus is a great dive right off the D.U. campus known for it's Mexi-food and Choppers is a classic sports bar. I'd call ahead on both.
  18. So what's the rap on the joint? Anyone check it out yet? Tough sell in our lil' ol' town I suspect. I'll check it out soon. Wish they'd complete their website so one could get a look at the menu and the rest of their concept. I fiercely support independent operations and encourage everyone to do so! Local Boy
  19. Hi all... Just wondering about some of the prices that Sioux souvenirs are fetching on ebay. I haven't had time to track some auctions. I'd be curious to know a few examples. Like...team signed National Champion team sticks, Belfour signed art, and vintage Blackhawk logo jerseys. Just curious. The sale value in most cases never equals the sentimental value. Thanks in advance.
  20. It's a rumor. I was told that the property will be dozed and the land sold for future development. Local Boy
  21. Why doesn't the radio station that currently has the UND sports contract offer a listen on-line feature? Is this blocking a revenue stream that REA wants to control? Anybody know? Thanks in advance.
  22. SiouxMeNow, you kill me. Explain to me the benefit of owning the naming rights of an unsuccessful property. They made a deal based on speculation. It's not workin' out. Life's a bitch. Don't snap. I love your posts. Especially the late night entries evidently. Keep it up!
  23. Sica, Thanks for referencing the Herald story. That clears thing up. (Sarcasm) Yikes!
