#11 with the greatest hand off ever and lead block to the end zone!

I can’t speak for Tommy but it seemed like he was done at UND no matter what. Skokna and lots of players reach the point where they are moving in in life. Tommy already scoring a TD at his home state at Michigan State has gotta be icing on the cake. What a career.

I did find myself wondering during the game what Trey and Jerry were like during practice. Did they throw the ball off wall of the sports center or over the rail road tracks? Did they accidentally kick the ball instead of throw it? Did they hit somebody in the head in the stands on a deep pass?

Iowa State-Iowa-Gophers so we should at least tie the Gophers.

Iowa State and Montana showing this is a championship caliber team that so far is maybe at 50% potential and certainly hasn’t played a good complete game and still at 3-1. The best players at some positions might not even be on the field yet? Like you said no one expected this start. After the awful pass coverage first half and passing game and to flip it all the second half is historically unique. Next week is the trap trap trap game then on to the Super Bowl.

A win is a win. You can’t say the last three games haven’t been interesting. Outstanding play in some areas.

The defense having multiple take aways was huge last week and hopefully they keep it going. Game changing plays.

UND sent about 7 players to FBS this off season. Another to national FCS champs and one to CFL. Jerry or anyone going FBS could very well happen.

And huge props to our 4 receivers. Fun to see Belquist shine and Dennis is quietly making outstanding plays over and over.

QB has been covered. Good competitor. Happy for Simon to have a good game. Just to point out Jerry was very successful at track and his slowest 40 time is a 4.7 so I’m pretty sure he can run and his arm is better than good. No idea why he isn’t being worked in. We put up with underachievement in one area then another area we have great competition amongst players. Lastly the o-line is quite interesting. I love the rotation at center and it’s basically taking two average players and making it a strength. Left side tackle and guard need to rotate two deep. Thaden needs reps and he can’t be worse than the one playing. Make these guys work for their spots. Folland is rumored to be one of the best lineman on the team and our left guard needs the rest and be motivated. Right side needs to keep working hard and last week was very tired. This week against 230 lb D lineman it went good. Right guard gets rolled around a little too often. Love we have Seth Anderson on the team. He’s a quiet leader and great anchor. Overall great win!

Offense…well Freuchte might be a genius. While our offense is stacked in areas what he has put together in 3 games is impressive. I’m not sure if anyone has noticed but we lack in a few spots but the offense sure rolled today. Our 4 running backs do not get enough credit. You can say they are good but they are twice as good as that. Many runs they skip, step over or run through 2-3 blocks. Love seeing them take it to the house. I think Hunt averages a score every other carry. Huge props to the other 3 again. Great blocking on edges they block like a FB from the TE.

Special teams is fine. Just keep making all field goals and extra points and don’t kick out of bounce. The blocking scheme is stupid on kicks if you ever pay attention. Blocking gives no chance for alternative plays. The more you pay attention the worse it is.

Good win. Took care of business. Defense is playing with some serious fire most of the game. There seems to be competition amongst themselves and the intensity is very high. Way more pressure at the line the last two games than all of last year. The takeaways including pick 6 and two strip sacks are game changing plays. I do not like to see letting off the pressure and definitely some complacency that let to Idaho State scores but overall good. 50, 23, 27, 90, maybe a few more I missed and all the linebackers were really rolling. Average opponent at best but still a great win.

Mohr was injured very early and did not return in uniform. Wish the young man the best. Very unfortunate in his first start.

We needed the field goal. There is no way we were scoring. I really thought we could run north and south. There is 6 offensive weapons and I bet more hungry ones behind them. The goal is to get touchdowns and the time of possession was cool and all but just a moral victory. The second half our O line started to give up and get lazy. Grand Forks is just as hot and humid as anywhere in the country. Olson really seemed to have them working together and coaching hard in the beginning but if you are sucking air and letting your guy or two go by it’s next man up. It was great to see the rotation at center. Keep them fresh and motivated. Glad there are developing depth on the O line as the old line coach seemed mostly interested in just developing the next Walzeko and bragging about it. The talent and strength and speed is there just have to teach, coach and motivate. The end of the game we were bound and determined to lose the ball or get a safety in our own end zone. QB snuck a run out to save it. New coaches have potential but the complacency is evident in areas. Lots of bright spots. Lots of areas to work on. It was a 3 score game which really isn’t close but it felt ok. See you next week.

Belquist and Dennis and Co. are real targets. Throw to the backs once in a while and it could be a great offense. Last year when Feeney threw it always looked easy for him. Throwing did not look natural and easy yesterday. I don’t know what pass coverage entails but it didn’t exist. Defense of penetration and pressure isn’t really there as usual. We stuffed the line at times, the linebackers and corners did well on the run and looked much improved. Did I mention pass coverage and getting to the QB?

QB is a great young man trying very hard. We had momentum and moved the ball. Everytime Ziebarth runs you swear he’s gonna have a 180 yards rushing. The backs all ran well and broke one to two tackles each run. Keep in mind Hunt is hiding in there two. The back field is stacked and the 3 that ran are good. The O line was decent at times but the backs really made the plays. I state was toying with us as they stuffed the line when needed. Hence the 3 points. The long drives and 3rd down conversions by us were incredible but again. 3 points.

None of my comments are personal to the the great young men on the field and our support for the team. Lots of great write up’s and accurate assessments. With Thunderstuck cranked as Mr. two year extension leader led the team out I was curious about what the difference of any other game would be. I expected the same and was not disappointed in the mediocrity. That’s not a compliment. After 9 months to work on defense the first play should have been picked off. Everyone watching though so but once again let’s be in position, do the job but not make a play. Second play was a work of art. Game over.

It’s Sunday morning and only 2 hours left to talk about yesterday. Huge stadium and football atmosphere. 50,000 or so fans it sounded like. They are very and rightfully proud of the facility and two different Iowa State supporters wanted is to know the importance of the facility namesake who died in a tragic game incident.

Last year things generally went well and in the Hawks favor and we won close games until winning the Super Bowl. After the Super Bowl win it was very telling with such a veteran team how things usually go for this program. Disappointing to the point they should reevaluate everything including themselves. The schedule this year is brutal and teams are going to be out for blood. The amount of upperclassman on NDSU and SDSU depth charts along with the other teams is impressive. Having said that the QB and 5 interior lineman are going to have to control the game on their side. Make plays, pick up the blitz, hold the line like a steel gate and no turnovers. It’s as simple as that. Now the defense needs to turn it up. Make huge plays, rotate and bring relentless pressure over and over. Pick off passes and cause fumbles. Last year we made the QBs look like were playing flag football. I swear these guys in charge shrug their shoulders and say “well what can we do?” It’s going to be one heck of year and I have no predictions on wins and losses. It’s game week!
