  1. The Nickle Trophy is made of Plaster of Paris, hard but fragile and subject to water damage. It should stay in the museum where it's protected.
  2. geaux_sioux, you have a right to your opinion just as those in the news story have a right to theirs, please don't be so condescending when you reply to things with which you don't agree. You are very good at wielding that as weapon when you disagree with a statement; it could be construed as a subtle form of bullying.
  3. And yet more unhappiness over the logo in the news: http://www.kfyrtv.com/content/news/Bismarck-printing-duo-UND-graduates-disappointed-with-Fighting-Hawks-logo-385764191.html
  4. RFP = Request For Proposal = bid process
  5. To a certain extent UND already rebranded themselves with the“We are North Dakota” ad campaign. Notice how those have disappeared??? UND pretty much shot themselves in the foot and are now surprised that people want to stay North Dakota. This is what may be called reaping the fruits of unintended consequences.
  6. Why not do what we've always done, and travel with the herd of sheep? It makes it so easy to distinguish ourselves that way. When it becomes untenable to keep doing the same thing, you change unless there are OCD problems.
  7. As proud individuals of, from, or associated with this state or institution, we have the courage to stride forth being known as North Dakota. UND is the flag ship university of the entire state, not of Grand Forks, or Eastern ND. It isn’t necessary to apologize for who we are or to hide behind some artificially contrived nickname. Having a school name is the expedient nee easy way to proceed and certainly it makes the job of SID, marketer, or broadcaster less difficult. We do the hard thing because it is the right thing. The words “no one has done it” do not mean it can’t be done. UND stands out because we boldly forge a path where none has existed and proclaim without apology we ARE North Dakota.
  8. I concur, it is used by our neighbors both to the east and west as a derogatory reference to North Dakotans, and generally they mean witless dullards when using it.
  9. About two generations or roughly 40 years. When the number of people alive that were never associated with the Sioux name outweighs the number that were, tension will decrease. The name will never vanish.
  10. I hear you Teeder11, this wasn't meant so much to stir those that do their part, but to encourage those that don't to take action. You will never be heard if you just sit on this site and complain. You may as well talk to a rock.
  11. Nodakhoops, I was just pointing out that Marquette students and alumni made a difference by not sitting around doing nothing but complaining about the choices they were given. If you dn't like you choices, then let it be known somewhere other than a place that can't help you.
  12. Teeder11, you need to read that again for context, it said be heard, rather than go with the herd. Make you opinion known rather than sit and kibitz on a fan site. Make noise, make a difference, create a stir, be loud, let those that can actually make a difference know what you're thinking. Sitting on this forum grousing will not do anything for you except make you blood pressure go up.
  13. Nodakhoops, you left out the part about Marquette changing the name to Gold and having to change it a week later because the backlash was so huge. Students hated it, angry alumni flooded the place with angry calls and emails. Didn't go over so well, and it was because those upset (students and alumni) spoke up and made a difference. If you're upset about the choices you've been given, then stand up and be heard, rather than go with the herd.
  14. In the interest of accuracy TNT, the ND state motto is Liberty and union, now and forever, one and inseparable. Roughriders is simply a state nickname.
  15. You gotta do what you gotta do. It isn't like we're unaware of the fact the company exists.
