  1. Ugly game. Credit DU for just plain shutting down the Sioux. Looked a lot like the 1-0 loss in the regionals a few years back. What a sweet backhander for the game winner. I was irritated a few hours ago, now over it. Another game tomorrow. UND absolutely has to get out of this scoring slump to have success in the big tourney. Would love to play CC tomorrow.

And, here it comes... it's going to be tough to say this, but ..... ew.... uhm.... go g-gophers.

    Phat, phewy, spsst, bleah.

  2. Very sad to see this happen during an otherwise tremendous weekend of hockey. I hope the news updates become more positive in the next few days.

Go Sioux and Go Tom Pohl!

  3. While watching the bench discussion, I scratched my head thinking "did that just happen?" Using the magic of TiVo, I went back and was able to freeze on a crystal clear image of Hak's bird. Fantastic! I fell on the floor laughing. It is just part of a terrific evening of hostility and abusiveness served up by our Fighting Sioux. Prpich would have loved this game.

Got news for the "class police" out there. Hockey's a rough sport. There's plenty of bad language and nasty behavior by all involved. I think I'm more impressed with Hak after this. They guy finally showed some fire, came unglued, and now feels bad about it. That's emotion. That's heart. He's human.

We all get pissed, launch off, and then regret it later. Not many, however, have a camera there while it happens.

  4. Awesome, PSB. Simply awesome.

Sioux fans stepped up and showed our true colors, especially Bob in Sconny and PSB. Even though PSB is going to take care of this, maybe we can all keep our pledges of monetary support in play by donating to a cancer-related charity what we were otherwise willing to chip in so young Mr. Cherekos could watch Sioux hockey. This way, we would be honoring Nick's battle, PSB's mother, and everyone else affected by cancer. There are a number of great charities:

    St. Jude Children's Research: http://www.stjude.org/

    American Cancer Society: http://www.cancer.org/

    Lukemia & Lymphoma Society: http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org/hm_lls

    ...

    Thank you, PSB!

diggin42, my wife and I really like those charities. Tonight, I donated to CaringBridge. You can easily do this from Nick's site. I wish the NCAA could understand what it means to be a Fighting Sioux. Sweaty eyes, again.

  5. Very nice 4pts for the Sioux this weekend. Taz took the family Saturday night for the usual: burger/pizza at Chevy's and then the game. Can't take the kids to Mettler's afterwards, though, so that part's done for a while. :glare:

While I thought Mankato was taking the play to the Sioux for much of the third, it was not enough to overcome the two-goal backbreaker. Mankato has size+speed and an aggressive penalty kill. I was impressed with how well they backchecked even when the Sioux were breaking out flying. But, they seem to make enough mistakes to hurt themselves.

Nice showing by the Sioux faithful once again. I agree with dagies, was nice to see the crowd post-game, and Hak's acknowledgement right back to all of us. Sioux Yeah Yeah, indeed.

  6. Hey Folks, here's hoping the Kelly Green brings some old school bioux-ya tonight. Now remember, no poopie-pants whiny talk if things aren't going perfectly. Remember, it's our beloved Fiiiiiiiiiiiightinnnnnnnnggg Siouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuxxxxx!!!!

    taz'll be there tomorrow night!

  7. I agree with da Taz. I'm not worried at all. I think with all the pressure of pre-season expectations, the Sioux are clutching their sticks a little tight right now. They just need to have some fun. Hell, it's only a game.

I'm not so sure you do agree with me. I'm disappointed, and expressing my angst through the majesty of sarcasm. But, you're right, it is only just a game. Can't get too worked up about this.

Get 2pts tonight and then go on a terror, Sioux.

  8. And I'm tired of the fans that whine about losing title hopes after a loss in December.

Has this team been disappointing at times this year? Yes.

Have they shown signs of being a great team this year? Absolutely.

The past few years the Sioux have really turned it on in Jan/Feb and made the F4. Now, I'm not saying that they are guaranteed to do that again this year, but they certainly have the talent to do it (and their schedule gets easier in the next month).

If the season ended today, the Sioux would easily be in the NCAA's despite their "disappointing" season thus far. And that's all it takes to have a chance at the big title.

I expect the Sioux to contend for both the national title AND the regular season title every year. A first half cruise followed by a furious battle to be a bride's maid is not hanging any banners-- which IS the goal of this team year-in year-out. Certainly there's a lot of season left. There's also been a lot of season. And, the Sioux are playing themselves towards the bubble yet again.

The loss is not the main issue. It's the late game collapse at home. But, in the end, we all love the Sioux and this annoying little breakdown ain't gonna change that. ;)

  9. 5 goals in the last 5 minutes? OK, 3 goals in the last 5 minutes. Is that correct? If so, that IS something to be concerned about-- not necessarily the split.

But, it's not the end of the world by any stretch. Enjoy the New Year, folks!

  10. As a Gopher fan, I'm over the whole HC thing.

    But here's my thought.

I'm fine with your PA announcer saying it as long as those UND fans who support would be okay with comments from other PA guys. Say the Denver PA guy had said "Noticeably absent form tonights line up is Robbie Bina" last season to rev up the fans who enjoyed watching Punk-o-witch.

After all, according to you, it's not about being professional. it's about playing to eh fans without saying anything vulgar.

Ahm, yeeeaaaah. That's one of the best parallels I've read in a long time. By the way, Bina was fully recovered and playing last season, so his announced absence would have been of little controversy to anyone at the game other than it would have just sounded odd.

  11. Win or lose this one, the Sioux have put together barely 1 good period of hockey, while the Gophs played 4+. What a difference a day makes. Yesterday, the gophs season was on the downturn. Today, it's the Sioux. A long holiday break to think about how crappy they played this weekend in front of the fans.
