Pro contracts r only there for so long…they have to do what’s best for their careers. Too much uncertainty in this game with injuries or a bad season. I would be curious to see how many players renewed leases for next year or reserved spots in hockey houses. I could see Tyler stay. if his path to get to the NHL is too long with Ottawa he can become a free agent after next season and sign with anyone.

Lets ask Det/Van/Buf/Was. Pretty sure the Jake Sanderson would be in the same spot he’s in even if he had never attended North Dakota.

You r correct. All of these kids know each other and played against each other in juniors or high school. Doesn’t take long for negative info to spread which does affect recruiting. I would guess that there r probably several NHL GM’s that are probably questioning players wanting to come to North Dakota due to development issues.

I always find it funny anytime somebody says a very reliable source. Unless you’re getting it directly from the player/coach. Which I doubt. Could it be that both parties have decided to mutually part ways.

I would disagree. Just because u have 36 games doesn’t mean that u played in all those games. Maybe u only got a couple minutes. Take a look at 18 last Friday. Dressed for the game but didn’t see a shift. It boils down to he was making the same mistakes that guys with more 125 games were making. Look at the gift #3 gave Denver last Friday. Plus you would’ve have this kid for 2 more yrs…why not show some more interest in his development.

I would say he would be better than #3 or #4 or #24 right now. To say a kid only gets 36 games to make it is a pretty high standard. I wouldn’t want to play for you if u coached.

You hit the nail right on the head. Johnson has a total of 36 career games which is equivalent to one Freshman season. He was never giving a long enough leash to make mistakes and show the coaching staff what is capable of doing. He was good in the first half. He did have a couple hiccups but his game was growing as his confidence grew. The coaching staff pulled the rug right out from underneath him in favor of guys with over 125 games yet were still making the same mistakes he was making. It would be funny if Johnson lands at another NCHC rival school and finishes the last two years as one of the best defenseman in the conference. We could call him Johnny T, 2.0.

I wouldn’t say its a given that several of those sophomores/jrs will be back. There have been several that have been jacked around this yr. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see 4-5 guys hit the portal. The coaching staff keeps preaching culture but going to the portal every yr doesn’t show much about culture.

So we should only expect to get kids from MN…Grand Forks and Western Canada. My bad….I thought every kid in the country wants to play for UND.

I’m hearing the coaches have already written 6 off. They’re not even communicating with him anymore. We could see a conga line of players in the transfer portal in Apr. 6/18/29/32 maybe others. This coaching staff has failed in their development in favor of 5 yr transfer guys. NHL teams have to be cringing if they hear one of their prospects is going to UND.

Your comparing a guy 120 games vs 34. Heck we have a guy with over 170 games still not be perfect. Probably some room there for 6 to development and make mistakes. Seems like we just had a guy with over 100 games have a bad turnover and we lost. If you compared all of #6 puck touches for the whole seasons u would probably see that the positive touches out way the negatives.

I applaud Morrow. He called their bluff. He must have realized he didn’t need UND to get to the NHL. This is probably what led to them scrambling to find another player that was playing very well in the USHL that season and was projected to get drafted. maybe they needed to keep their streak of NHL drafted players coming to school intact. We’ll never know… either way was a bad move by the coaches to pressure this kid to come in after coming off shoulder surgery. #6 has played on a very short leash all yr compared to others. At one point this season he had 6 pts in 10 games and +7. He did have a few miscues in his last few games which could be attributed to confidence and knowing the coaches would bench him if he made any mistakes. Almost seems like he is being used as the scapegoat. I hope to see the the kid go to another school play great for 2 yrs and sign pro. Just throwing this out there. Maybe both parties have agreed that he sit for the rest of the yr to prevent an injury that would prevent him from transferring.

Lets just hope after 4-0 win on Friday he doesn’t change goalies on Sat. I seem to remember him doing that in GF after 7-1 win and UND lost the Sat night game.
